Sam flicked one of the baby carrots from the plastic bag at Adam. The blonde boy scowled at him, picked up the carrot, and threw it at Sam's face. Sam ducked, and the carrot slammed into the wall with a loud thud. Sam always forgot that Michael was a quarterback. Adam probably got his good throwing arm from him.
"What are you two doing?" Alfie asked, his hands still dancing across the page of the book he was trying to read.
"Nothing," Sam and Adam said simultaneously.
"How are you doing with the reading?" Adam asked. Sam almost rolled his eyes at how sweet Adam sounded. It had been two weeks since Adam had first woken up, and things were going pretty well for the whole group. Except of course that Alfie and Adam were always begging their siblings/cousins/friends not to leave them alone with the other. Sam didn't know what the big deal was. They were constantly flirting, and Sam wished he could just leave them alone so they would make out already.
"I hate it," Alfie said, wrinkling his nose. "Braille is hard."
"I'm sorry," Adam said softly. "How about you take a break?" Alfie nodded and climbed off his chair, automatically making his way to Adam's hospital bed and climbing in. He snuggled into Adam's side, who wrapped a protective arm over the slightly younger boy's shoulders. Alfie yawned and was asleep in a matter of seconds. Sam rolled his eyes and pulled out his laptop. He was struggling at the moment with an assignment for their performativity class, which, ironically, all the Novaks, Milligans, Miltons, and Winchesters were in. Neither Gabe nor Adam had been to the class since the shooting since they hadn't been released from the hospital yet. Michael tried to make it as often as he could, and Lucifer kept getting pulled out of the class to talk to the police.
"What do the doctors say about you going home?" Sam asked in a quiet voice.
"I should be able to go home soon. They're not entirely sure, but..." Adam shrugged or attempted to. It was a bit difficult with Alfie asleep on his shoulder. "I've got another MRI in a week. But they say that if the last round of tests come back with good results, I can maybe go home tomorrow."
"Good. It'll be nice to all be home again," Sam said.
"Where's Gabriel?" Adam asked. "And Dean?"
"Dean went to go see Lisa skate. She's got a competition or whatever," Sam said, wrinkling his nose in distaste. He knew something was up with Lisa because whenever Sam mentioned her to Dean, he'd look super uncomfortable. He wasn't sure what exactly was going on, but he was going to figure out. "And Gabriel gets to go home today. The nurses were going through the last care stuff for Chuck so he can know what to do and stuff, and Gabriel was talking to the cops. Have they talked to you yet?" Sam asked. Adam shook his head.
"Not yet. I hope they don't. I don't remember anything. One second I was talking to Alfie, trying to get his number..." Adam started.
"Wait, what?" Sam exclaimed. Adam shot him a glare as Alfie mumbled in his sleep.
"Yeah, you told me to go talk to him, and I did. And I asked for his number, and he shut me down brutally," Adam said with a chuckle. "But that's the last thing I remember before waking up." Sam nodded, trying not to think about the party too much. He still had nightmares of Gabe bleeding out in his arms. He had been so afraid when everything had happened. He did his best to stop the bleeding, which the doctors said probably saved his life. They told him he was a hero. Sam didn't feel like a hero. He felt like he had failed Gabe because now his best friend was confined to a wheelchair.
"Hey, hoes," Gabriel said as he threw the door open and wheeled himself inside. "Guess who gets to fucking go home?" he exclaimed. Alfie opened his eyes and rubbed at them, which Sam found sort of funny, considering the younger boy couldn't see out of his eyes.
