When the sun was completely set, Mark had to return for curfew. Danny walked him back while dusting off the snow and said,"I might not be here the same time as usual tomorrow".
Mark stopped walking and asked,"Why? Did something happen?".
"Nothing bad. I just have to fill in for someone at work since they are trying to get a new job and taking time off," Danny reassured and motioned for him to continue walking.
"Why can't they get someone else to cover for them?" Mark questioned quite annoyed, but proceeded to move forward.
"I wanted to do it. Not because I don't want to spend time for you, but I want to get you something for Christmas," she said happily while walking backwards.
"You don't need to do that. I am used to not getting anything, yet you still try and get me things. So why?" Mark asked confused and made Danny walk correctly so she wouldn't trip.
"Everyone deserves something for the holidays and since you aren't able leave this place and enjoy it, I will bring the holidays to you," Danny said not going to let Mark argue.
"If you say so,"Mark said while shrugging.
"Well we should get back before I get you in trouble for staying out past curfew," Danny said while laughing and sped up her pace. They went inside the warm building and parted ways.
The next day, Mark was unusually quiet and that made everyone uneasy. The only one who was unaffected by Mark's behavior was Matt and he continued his job as normal. When it was time to get Mark, he knocked on his door and asked," Can I come in?".
"Are you Danny?" Mark asked with an attitude.
Matt stopped and said," No".
"There's you answer,"Mark said coldly.
"Sorry, but I must come in," Matt apologized and walked in the room.
"Then why bother asking?" Mark asked curious, but still agitated.
"I wanted to let you know," Matt said calmly while opening the door.
Mark asked," Why? No one else bothers to do so.".
Matt looked shocked and said,"Well that's just rude. Now let's take off those restraints".
"What are you up to? Why are you not avoiding me like everyone else?" Mark asked suspicious off the other's motives.
"Well you are human so I won't treat you like a wild animal like others may. Also I wouldn't like it if someone kept me restrained all day. Now can I take them off?"Matt asked casually.
"Please do. I am sick and tired of these stupid restraints," Mark said relieved.
Matt started to remove them one by one. He accidentally pinched Mark and he apologized then thought, 'What were they thinking putting all these on a person? this is too much'. Mark stretched and thanked him then said,"You remind me of Danny. You both are both the only ones who treat me like a normal person".
"Can I tell you something that no one knows about Danny?" Matt asked quietly while leaning in towards Mark.
"What about her?" Mark asked, getting a bit protective of Danny.
Matt chose his next words carefully, then said,"She has had a horrible past and I feel horrible not being to help her". Mark glared at Matt and inspected him to see if he was telling the truth or was just trying to get close to him.
"How would you know this and how would you be able to help?" Mark asked already annoyed and thought, 'Who is this and how does he know anything about Danny?'.
