Chapter 50

After the traumatic events that took place during the week of their original honeymoon Rebecca and Colby decided to have another one after the court proceedings. Rebecca got dressed and her and Colby and Colby's mom went to court to testify against Leighla and Colby's father. The twins were put in a daycare in the courthouse so they wouldn't hear or see any of the trial. Colby took the stand first and submitted the text messages between him and Leighla as evidence against her.

Prosecution: Mr. Lopez, when did Ms. Schultz contact you initially?
Colby: February 19th, me and my wife were on our honeymoon.
Prosecution: Mr. Lopez, did she mention your kids by name?
Colby: Yes, she did.
Prosecution: Mr. Lopez did she also claim to have had explicit photos and videos of you and your wife.
Colby: Yes, she did. She event commented on my private area. I admit it may not have been smart to say what I said but she came at me first and I defended myself.
Prosecution: Nothing further.

The defense now cross examines Colby and tries to poke holes in his story.

Defense: Mr. Lopez is it true that you and my client were in a long term relationship?
Colby: Yeah. She dumped me when I started seeing someone else and then she posted explicit photos of me on my social media and nearly cost me my job.
Defense: Would you say that Leighla is your first love?
Prosecution: Objection Relevance?
Judge: Sustained. Counselor what does that have to do with thos trial.
Defense: Ok. Nothing further.
Judge: Mr. Lopez you may step down.

Prosecution called Rebecca next.

Prosecution: Mrs. Lopez-

Leighla was visibly ticked off when the prosecutor said that.

Defrnse: Your honor can the prosecution call the witness by her maiden name please.
Judge: That is up to the witness.

The judge looks at Rebecca for an answer.

Rebecca: Mrs. Lopez, please.

The judge nodded and the defense sat back in defeat and Leighla just continued to tune out everything.

Prosecution: Mrs. Lopez would you please tell the court what Ms. Schultz had done during your honeymoon week.
Rebecca: She started texting my husband saying how I am a slut and the he said she was the best he ever had and then sent a video of me and him having sex in our bedroom of the cabin. We didn't close the blinds because our cabin was the only one on the mountain and it was completely secluded. She then started talking aboit his private area and he retorted probably not smart but it shut her up then while I am cooking Colby called out to me and he said that we needed to get back home immediately. He told that she had called our kids out by name and immediately my maternal instincts kicked to overdrive and I packed everything and we got on the plane Colby called him mother and she gave the worst news a parent could get their kids were missing. We got back and found that Colby's father was part of the scheme to take my kids and ruin my life. We waited for nearly over 2 days to get our kids back come to find out they were trying to cross the border to Mexico. She doesn't deserve to get out prison neither does her little accomplice.
Prosecution: Nothing further.
Defense: No questions your honor.

Rebecca stepped down and Holly was then called to the stand.

Prosecution: Mrs. Lopez, please tell court what happened from your point of view.
Holly: I was making dinner for my grandbabies and I heard the doorbell I went and I saw the man that beat me when I was only 4 months pregnant with our son Colby. At that point he wanted to talk I didnt see a problem he was older and I knew he would hit me because Colby had taught some self defense maneuvers. He came in and we talked he looked at the twins and he said they look just like Colby he must of figured out that Seth Rollins is Colby his biological son. But I then said it was time to go and I walked him to the door and I blame myself everyday for what happened I thought he walked out the door cause I heard it close but he came back in and took my grandbabies and I knew he was working with Leighla to ruin Colby and Rebecca's lives and the only way he could do that was to kidnap their kids and claim them as Leighla's thankfully the border patrol placed them in custody and extradited them back to Davenport.
Prosecution: Nothing Further.
Defense: Mrs. Lopez why would you let a man who you claimed beat you while you were pregnant into your house.
Holly: Again that was my mistake. I am human I make mistakes but I learn from them.
Defense: Nothing Further.
Judge: Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury you may go and deliberate and when you are done you may return with your verdict.

The jury didn't even get to the room and already had a verdict. They returned to courtroom and handed the judge the verdict Colby's father was found guilty on 2 counts of kidnapping and 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child andbhe was sentenced to 60-70 years behind bars. Leighla was found guilty of the same 4 charges and she was found guilty of stalking and was sentenced to the maximum of 50 years behind bars.

Colby, Rebecca, and Holly went to get the kids. They were finally able to feel safe again.

Colby: Don't forget we have a honeymoon to go on once we can get back home and pack again this time we aren't going to Canada. I have a very special surprise for you.
