chapter six
STUBBORN, MAYBE
"you're like a song that i ain't ready to stop.
i got nothing but you on my mind."Bellamy watched his feet as he walked.
Evelynn's music box was clutched tightly in his hand as he listened to her music, drowning out the talking and the sounds of the delinquents with him. Trying to drown out his own horrible thoughts of the fate of their friends.
He hoped she wouldn't mind him listening to her songs.
"Earth to Bellamy," Murphy said loudly.
Bellamy heard him, but chose to ignore Murphy, not in the mood to deal with him.
Murphy rolled his eyes and yanked one of the ear pieces from his ear. Bellamy instantly shoved Murphy away from him, "Hands off, Murphy!"
"Geez, I was gonna ask if we could take a break." Murphy scoffed, arms raised in mock surrender from Bellamy's attack.
Bellamy sighed, pausing the music and pulling the other ear piece out, protectively securing the music box in his pocket.
"We have to keep going," Finn answered Murphy's question, trudging past the two.
"I can't keep running, all right?" Murphy said, turning to Bellamy, "We don't even know if the guy Finn killed was telling the truth."
Finn gruffly responded, "Keep moving."
Bellamy grabbed Finn's shoulder, "We can give him a minute."
"No, we can't." Finn shook him off, "You heard what that Grounder said. 'They'll outlive their usefulness.'"
Bellamy sucked on the inside of his cheeks, "Yeah, I heard what he said when you had a gun to his head."
Finn's face contorted from anxiety, "Look, you think I wanted to do that? He would have told his people we're coming, and by the time we got there, our people would be dead."
He paused, looking Bellamy up and down, "Maybe that's something you can live with, but I can't."
Bellamy snapped, "Hey, you did what you think you had to do. But you are not yourself right now, and I can't be out here with another loose cannon."
Finn and Bellamy glared hard at the other before someone spoke up.
"Guys," Sterling said in a soft tone.
They looked up and quickly realized the terrain they were on.
Bodies were scattered on the path and in the bushes and dirt surrounding it.
"Fall in," Bellamy commanded.
Finn spoke quieter now, "Where the hell did they come from?"
"From the Ark," Bellamy figured.
