"it's chaos, where are our leaders?"

Evelynn's body trembled as she was shoved and locked inside the cold, hard cage yet again.

Tsing and her assistants wordlessly left the room, the giant metal door beeping behind them.

Evelynn's lip quivered as she pressed her head to the back of her cage, her body hurting worse than anything she'd ever felt.

"Lynn? You okay?"

Evelynn turned her head slowly to Monty scanning her features nervously through his cage beside her.

Poor Monty joined Evelynn and Harper in cages earlier that morning, and he was unlucky enough to have been drilled into once already.

The only thing worse than being the one drilled into is hearing your friends screams as they are. And there's nothing you can do about it.

The only positive of Monty joining them is that they knew he set up the radio, unjammed the frequency, and it appeared to be working. Now they could only hope that the Ark was listening.

Evelynn pressed her fingers through the the bars. Monty's fingers met hers and held her hand.

A cry bubbled and escaped her lips, "I'm so sorry. This is all my fault."

"No, it's not. These people are terrible. You tried your best." Harper tried to console her. Evelynn glanced up at the cage over her head.

Harper offered her hand through the bars too. Evelynn sighed, her fingers latching on to two of her friends.

They all closed their eyes as they held eachother, all too weak to move, too tired to try.

It felt like the end. And their hope was draining.

Evelynn's heart plummeted and she tensed as she heard the sound of the door opening again.

She turned away from the door, not wanting to make eye contact with the people that were there to take their bone marrow.

"Don't worry, I'm not gonna hurt you."

Evelynn turned and saw Ian crouching in front of her cage.

"Ian?" She gasped.

He's here to save them! They can finally stop being drilled into. The pain would finally stop. God, she missed not being in a cage.

She pointed through the bars to a set of keys they hang on the wall, "The keys are over there."

Ian's face twisted in confusion, "I can't let you out."
