Lavi gives me a sullen look before quickly evading my gaze. I persisted by taking a step closer. I wasn't going to take no for an answer. When that didn't get him talking, I tried getting his attention with my words.
"Lavi..." Firmly saying his name I walk over to Tyki who still held Lavi by the few threads of his collar. I touch Tyki's hand to release his grip. As Tyki let go, the bookman only sunk further down. He wouldn't look at me, almost as if he couldn't. "Please talk to me, I'm grateful you pulled me to my senses with whatever you did but I need to know how you knew what to do." I stare at him until he looked up into my eyes again. Please, Lavi... More silence passes before he sighs.
"I... as a Bookman, at one point, I observed from the side of the Noah with the old panda. The Earl let slip a few things about his missing "daughter" one night and after pressuring him he told us everything, about Cronea and... about you." My eyes widen and I drop to my knees. Lavi drops his eyes down to the ground once again.
"How, I wasn't here yet. He couldn't have known about me." Unless... he did. He knew who I was the whole time. Why else would he allow a human to stay in the Ark? Why stop referring to me as ____ when Chronea awakened? He started calling me Chronea because... He believed you would be soon gone anyway due to us merging. So does he believe he is Mana or not? And are you going to take me over? I quickly try to hide my swirling emotions and thoughts from my expression. My comment had brought his head back up to meet my steady gaze. I look into his eyes, searching for answers. Lavi grabs my hand and starts to walk away from the group. Allen and Tyki begin to protest but Lenalee stops them in their tracks.
"It must be something important that they can't share it yet. Let's not force it out of them." They both nod begrudgingly and stayed put. Quietly the Noah and Exorcists separate into groups but maintain surprisingly close proximity after that fist fight. Lavi pulls us behind a wall before starting.
"There was a prophecy that the Earl venomously denied but knew of. That you would appear as the vessel for his long lost daughter and restore the Earl to his former glory." I was so confused, restore? As in the brothers?
"I don't think I'm following, restoring as in?" He looked at me sternly.
"I'm sure you know, the Earl is broken up into two souls at the moment. You are prophesied to bring the souls back into one. Combining the two brothers, Nea and Mana." My eyes turn into saucers.
"How do YOU know about that? The current Earl believes he is the whole one, unless..." my face becomes suddenly more serious. "You talked to the other half." I didn't ask, I knew at that moment. "How did you talk to Nea?"
"This was before Mana killed Nea and consumed him. Nea was the one who told Mana the prophecy but he refused to believe it. Mana at the time was starting to slowly slip into madness from the Earl being broken into two, yet he did not accept himself as being half of the Earl. Only after having heard of it from the Mana did me and the old panda decide we needed the full story, so we went to Nea." Lavi turns his head to the ground, "Nea told us that you would combine the two brothers back into one soul, but in doing so, your soul will be used as a sacrifice to combine the souls. I knew how to separate you from Chronea because that is what Nea told me to do if this ever happened. Nea wants to be the whole Millennium Earl again but he knows Chronea wouldn't want you to disappear so this," Lavi holds out his hand revealing a white tumbled stone, " was his temporary solution. I never saw him after that so I don't know if he has figured anything else out since that time. I'm sorry I don't know more ____." Why does that stone look familiar? Looking even more crestfallen than before, Lavi slouches down to a crouching position and stares into the floorboards beneath him, white-knuckling the stone in his grasp. I can't let him feel burdened like this. This isn't his problem to bear. I put a hand on his shoulder as I crouch down next to him.
"Hey, don't get so bummed out, this isn't the Lavi I know. I recently talked to Nea and he told me he had something to talk about so hopefully he has a solution. Chronea and I will be fine, I trust her with my life. She has been there with me through everything, even if I have only met her recently, I feel as if I have known her forever. This information is more than enough. I know as a Bookman you are supposed to stay neutral, so thank you for helping me." Standing up I offer my hand to him, "Let's get back to the task at hand of getting out of here and we can talk about it once we are out!" Lavi looks up with a lopsided grin, a blush slightly tinting his cheeks as he hauls himself up off of the floor with my help. We make our way back to the groups with less crestfallen appearances which seemed to relieve most. I wave my hand high above my head and put on a smile. "Let's get this challenge started!" I saunter over to the twins and hold my hand out. Both look quite confused at my approach and tilt their heads similarly to an attentive puppy. I rub my forehead with my free hand as I stick out my already outreaches hand a little closer. "Someone needs to time you, right?" After realizing what I am offering they break out huge grins as Devit hands over a stopwatch.
"You'd better time it right or we're gonna have a problem!" I roll my eyes as I take the timer and set it to 0:00. I'm glad someone is acting normal. I tilt my head towards the beginning of the track, indicating that they should take their places. The twins trot over and get into their individual running stances. Let's see how fast these two can go.
"On your marks... get set... GO!"
