"What-" Jin started, and both of them stared at each other, mouths agape. They didn't know this was an escape room. Jisoo stared daggers at the door, internally cursing at it for locking them in.
She tried the handle; it wouldn't budge. It worked like those of a hotel room, and Jisoo knew it because she had been to many hotels before. She lifted her foot off the ground, intending to attempt kicking the door down, but put it down when she realised Jin was looking in her direction. Turning to face the interior of the small room, she pretended to examine the row of lockers in the strange room.
The right side of the room was covered with lockers, the left side pictures of papers and they were directly facing a door. Jin gasped. "Oh, I know! Lets try unlocking these lockers!" He offered a smile, trying to break the tension between them. Jisoo simply nodded, emotionless.
There were three rows and five columns of lockers. Jin ran to the nearest locker on the top row. The words on the locker read:
The more you take, the more you leave behind.
Jisoo mumbled, "Lets see if the pictures have an answer in it." Both children immediately whirled around to face the picture frames in unison.
There were three diary entries. The first one read:
Dear diary,
Firstly, I want to say that mummy is acting really strange nowadays. She came home today and greeted me, chatted a bit and played hide and seek with me.
Once we were done playing, she bought me an ice cream. It was my favourite, chocolate!
One strange thing was, she said she had to go to work, so she left. But after that she never came back. What has happened to her?
Thinking about it makes me shiver. Was she kidnapped? Why did she leave me? Where had she gone?
She is a smart mother, so I don't think she would do anything stupid, like commit crimes. She says she is busy with work, but I don't know if I can take her word for it.
The strangest thing is, she keeps doing the same thing. She comes home and has loads of fun with me, playing games and treating me to food, but the next day, when I wake up, she is gone. Without a trace.
Eventually she returns home, maybe after a week, but who knows what she has done all this while? And why?
Please tell me, dear diary, is there any danger lurking somewhere? I feel scared.
So, the more she tries to be nice to me, the longer she stays missing?
Love,
Crystabelle

Jin finished reading it out aloud. Images flashed in Jisoo's mind. When she was a baby, alone. She couldn't help it but utter quietly," I don't want it to happen to me again. "
"Again? Why? Did your mother leave you too?" Jin couldn't help ask.
"I... nothing." She looked down. Worry seeped in to Jin's heart. Why was she always looking down? It seemed to him that she was holding back a big fat secret for all her life but didn't have anyone to tell that to.
"You okay?" He asked again after two minutes of Jisoo spacing out.
"Y-yeah."
Jin comforted her, resting his hand gently on her shoulder. "Don't worry, you don't need to tell me if you don't want to. Come on, lets solve this puzzle first." He told her softly.
Jisoo flinched at his touch, but didn't push his hand away. She nodded, brushing those thoughts away.
"What can you take? Money?" Jin wondered out loud. Jisoo widened her eyes, but remained quiet, pondering on the answer.
Jin stared at his leather shoes. He paced up and down the room, picking at the straps of his bag. Then he jumped up, running over to the diary entry. Placing his finger on the paper, he ran his finger down the paragraphs.

"The answer is footsteps!" yelled Jin, crazily waving his hands in the air. "The more steps you take, the more steps you leave behind!"
Jisoo gasped, understanding it. She thought, wow, I didn't know. Jin never ceases to surprise me. Even I didn't think of it that way. She didn't know it, but her anger had cooled by then.
"Genius." She said. The pun popped into her mind and cane out of her mouth before she could filter her words. "Or maybe Jinius."
Jin, taken aback by her sudden change in mood, laughed his windshield wiper laugh. Jisoo watched his laughing face and felt her mouth crease into a smile too. What was she doing?
He couldn't help himself but think of a dad joke. "Did you hear about the kidnapping in the woods?" He asked Jisoo, holding back his giggles.
"What about it?" Jisoo asked, clearly not knowing the answer.
"Don't worry, he woke up," Jin blurted out, doubling over in laughter. "HAHAHAHAHA-"
"Ohh now i get it," Jisoo had a moment of epiphany, before joining Jin who was tearing while laughing.
"Why... do you sound like a windshield wiper..." Jisoo gasped between laughs. Jin shrugged and wiped his tears away. "You are good at telling dad jokes." Jisoo commented.
"Thanks. My dad taught me a lot." Jin replied, grinning, feeling proud of himself for making Jisoo laugh. Usually when he told them to his mother, he was met with a sigh, or eye-rolling.
Almost instantly, Jin grew somber. Jisoo nearly burst out giggling at that sight, but successfully held it in. "Wait, but we can only key in numbers, not letters." Jin pointed out, glancing at Jisoo who was slightly quaking to hold in laughter.
