I twirled a strand of my light brown hair around my finger as I waited for the bell to ring. The teacher, Mrs. Evans, had finished teaching about 10 minutes ago, and told us to work on our assignment. The thing was, I had already finished it. Some people would call me a nerd, but really, I just pay attention in class. One of my friends, Percy Jackson, sat in front of me, staring at the assignment as if it were in Greek. He's dyslexic, so it probably was, to him. He groaned.

"Why me?" He mumbled. I tapped his shoulder.

"Hey Perce. Need help?" I asked.

He gave me those adorable baby seal eyes of his and nodded. "Yes, please."

He turned around and set his paper on my desk. Of course, Mrs. Evans was busy at her desk, reading a new novel, so she wouldn't notice a thing.

"Lilah, what does that say?" Percy asked.

"It says, what, in your opinion, was the motive for Scarlett's actions?" I replied.

" So I write down what I think?"

"Pretty much, yeah."

"Awesome!" Percy exclaimed as he scribbled an answer on his paper.

It continued like this for a while, with Percy asking me to help him read the question, me explaining it, and him finally understanding. He got about halfway through the assignment before the bell rang. Mrs. Evans finally looked up from her book.

"If you haven't finished the assignment, it is homework." She stated. Percy groaned again, before his face brightened up a bit.

"At least Annabeth can help me." He mumbled, as he rushed out the door.

Who's Annabeth? I wondered. Probably one of his camp friends, I thought. Percy sometimes talked about his other friends, from a camp he went to, though the way he described them, they didn't seem real. I pushed the thought from my mind as I rushed towards my locker. Now that the dismissal bell rang, the hallways would fill up really quickly.Besides, I had to meet up with my other friend, Julia. Julia had dark brown, wavy hair that she put in a ponytail everyday, and dark brown eyes as well. Her mom was Korean, so she had some Korean features too. I had light brown hair, medium brown eyes, glasses, and some freckles across my nose.

I found Julia standing under a tree in front of our school. I walked over to say hi.

"Hey, Julia!"

"Hi, Lilah!'

"What's up?" I asked.

"Nothing much," She replied, "Some jock tried to flirt with me after 3rd period. Even if my mom allowed me to date, I still wouldn't go for him"

"Wow." I said"Why is he into you anyway? I mean, he only seems to like the popular cheerleaders."

"No idea. But I am not mentioning this to my mom anytime soon. She would kill him. Figuratively. I think."

"Um...okay... should we start walking?" Both Julia and I walked home from school, but she had to turn left, while I had to turn right.

"Sure!" She said.

As we walked down, we saw Percy get into his stepdad, Mr.Blofis' car. I hoped he got that assignment done, for the sake of his grades.

Julia and I continued to talk for the whole time we walked together. As soon as I got home, I flopped down in an armchair with my newest book, Caraval. It had been a long day, but what better way to end it, than with a good book?
