"Okay, Remuss. Self control. We are going to visit the light sides. Maybe Patton will actually hear us out." Deceit spat bitterly.
Remus sighed and pulled Dee in for a kiss. "Don't be so stressed, Dee. Thomas accepted Virgil, so I'm sure we'll be normal... someday." He moved a stray hair from Deceit's face. "You're right, 'Musss." Deceit smiled, squeezing Remus' hand. "But you still aren't let off the hook," he added as an afterthought. He conjured a thick, not too tight, lime collar, with a leash attached. Remus wiggled his eyebrows and opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off by the snake man. "What? You're Remus. I don't trust you not to mess ssssomething up." Deceit conceded, and Remus couldn't argue with that. Deceit carefully set about clasping it around Remus' neck, checking it wasn't too tight.

They set off from the dark mindscape. They had to pass through the dark to the light imagination, without encountering Roman's castle or the dragon witch. Remus followed Deceit eagerly, quite literally looking like a little obedient puppy.

When they got there, Deceit took a deep breath as Remus admired the multicoloured door. They seldom visited and Remus knew it was a hard thing for him to do - he was full of sadness, but also anger, on Remus' behalf, for what Roman had done. For how they'd shut him out, labeled him a freak. But the years had passed, and things were bound to be better now, surely? Remus could only hope as Deceit slowly turned the knob and walked through the familiar commons. Remus inhaled the nostalgic scent, relished in the cheerful atmosphere. This was home.

A fire crackled and decorations were dotted around. Very showy, Deceit reckoned, albiet with a pang of jealousy. The first light side they encountered was Patton - a classic dad, apron on, humming mindlessly to himself as he baked a little cake. Deceit cleared his throat awkwardly and Patton turned, shocked, but his expression never changed, only relaxed. He didn't look angry towards them. He looked... pleased, cheeks rosy and a smile brighter than the sun.

"Boys!"
Boys? Deceit was wildly confused. Was this a different person? Remus, bold as ever, stepped over to give Patton a hug. Deceit rolled his eyes. How naiive. Pat was known for faking things, after all. Patton garbled on with idle chat about the weather and such as Deceit thought. Ouch. It stung a little. How could Patton just do that? Just waltz in and chatter and forget their past. Forget what he did, what had happened.

"Deceit?"
"Hmm?" Deceit snapped out of his train of thought to see Patton smiling at him. "Kiddos, what bring you here? Is everything alright?"
Deceit could almost laugh. Geniune concern. He swallowed dryly. He found he was unable to speak, the words sticking to his throat. Remus, luckily, had it coverered. "We wanted to come for a visit, check some stuff out!" Patton seemed satisfied with this, clapping his hands. "We can make this into a welcome cake!" Deceit panicked. "No, nothing fancy -" he found he couldn't object as he was pulled further into the kitchen.

Timeskip

The two looked down at their handiwork. Remus had done surprisingly accurate icing models of him and Dee holding hands. Deceit kissed Remus' cheek fondly. "Awww!" Patton squealed, hovering. Dee and Remus had fallen for each other since first sight and Patton knew they wouldn't ever stop loving each other.

The next side they were off to see was Virgil, in his room. Patton warned that he'd probably be moody, and listening to his PG13 music. They found him lying on his bed, fetus position, listening to Panic! At The Disco. He looked up as they entered and his eyes lit up with memory and joy.
Deceit's eyes lingered on the old polaroids of them he had hung up.
Everything in his room was the same.

Virgil shot them his signature finger guns. "Hey." Together, they reminisced over the good old days. And Deceit had a feeling they belonged. A big bonus was that Virgil gave Remus some killer fashion advice, such as fishnet tights and fingerless gloves, letting him try and keep a lot. Remus was giddy with excitement and Deceit was beyond glad.

Next, was Logan. They didn't want to interrupt his work so Patton suggest they bring him up some food - and ensure he eat it, and not overwork himself. They found him in his usual place - his spinny chair, by his desk. There was no need for him to have a spinny chair really. He just liked the ominous feel of spinning around in it.

He welcomed them in invitingly enough, much to Remus' surprise. He caught Remus staring at his sandwich and even offered him some. Deceit and Logan bonded over philosophy and it was great.

Lastly, Roman. This was all up to Remus. He took a deep breath, scared as he heard Roman's bold voice float through the crack under the door. Deceit massaged his boyfriend's shoulder comfortingly, pressing a kiss to his neck. "Go on, my love."
And Remus opened the door.

Roman grinned and flung his arms around Remus, squeezing hard. Pat had informed him that there would be visitors. He whipped out his phone for a selfie, in true Roman style.
They had fun and it was almost like when they were kids, and they played together, and Remus couldn't be happier.
"I love you, bro." Remus' voice dropped a few notches as they went to head downstairs, and Roman's grin faltered, turning into a sincere smile. "I love you too, Remus."

Timeskip to at the dinner table

Deceit was happy, and grateful for the kind actions. But something was still gnawing at him.
"Why is everybody combing over the past?" He blurted.

Silence.

The sides turned sheepish, glancing at one another. Patton took a deep breath as he fiddled with his grey cardigan. "We were, are, truly sorry. We wanted to invite you back to the mindscape, but we didn't think you'd want to come. We reckoned you'd be upset."
Deceit nodded as he processed it.
Before he knew it, Roman was sticking his hand out over the table, and everybody was shaking. "Truce," they chorused.

Back in the dark mindscape, loaded with gifts and pleasantries, Remus was cuddling Deceit as if his life depended on it. Deceit idly played with Remus' curls. They shared a couple of passionate kisses, Remus pressing closer to Dee. "I love youuuu Dee Dee. I'm glad we decided to visit."
"I love you too, 'Mus. And me too."

They did get their own room in the mindscape not long after. Things were looking up.
