This will be the longest chapter in the story, one big slice of Character Development for Katie and what happens in Signal.

3rd POV
Years have passed since the last incident with the Indoraptor, not a dream nor the skin turning night black happened. Katie is no longer a little girl, she is now a first year at Signal Academy, the same college her Aunt Ruby went to before transferring to Beacon. The Bullhead flew towards the academy and landed down.
Katie stepped off of it and looked around, her first time staying away from home.
Katie: this place....its big.
It was a massive academy, it looked beautiful too. Something then bumped behind Katie, putting them both to the ground.
Katie: ow, are you alright?
A girl quickly stood up as well as Katie and they both looked at each other.
?????: sorry....I didn't see you.
Katie: no it's my fault, I was just standing.
The girl had blonde hair, glasses and a mouth full of braces, she was your typical nerd.
Katie: come on, we don't want to be late for Orientation.
????: r-right.
The nerdy female followed Katie.
Katie: I never caught your name by the way.
?????: Cassandra Higgins.
Katie: I'm Katie Belladonna.
They both walked into the main building as the headmaster stood.
?????: Hello Everyone, I am Jaune Arc, your headmaster. I'm joined here with your fighting instructor Pyrrha Nikos. You have all been handpicked based on your grades at your schools. Congratulations to you all, now if you all work hard, you'll be able to go anywhere, Haven Academy and Beacon are the top academies, some of the best go there. Now all of you, an email has been sent to your scroll, your scroll will be your key to your dorms and you will have a roommate. Unlike Beacon or any place like that, you will not be in a group of 4, instead you'll be partnered with your dorm mate. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask. One more thing, the laundry room has been moved, it is now in Orion Hall. Best of luck to you wall.
The red headed female then walked to the mic and cleared her throat. Her voice was soft, yet the feeling of empowerment filled everyone as she spoke.
Pyrrha: your classes start two days from now. Today you will settle into your dorm and tomorrow will be a tour of the campus. That is all, and you all have a wonderful day.
She smiled as she walked off the stage with Jaune.
Katie: Uncle Jaune is the headmaster?
Cassandra: he's your uncle?
Katie: not by blood, but he's a good friend to my mother.
Cassandra: I see.
Katie's scroll then went off as she pulled it out, it was her dorm number.
Katie: F-126. What about you?
Cassandra: F-127.
Katie: so we're across the hall from each other?
Cassandra: apparently...who's your roommate then?
Katie: I'll have to see when I get there.
Cassandra: want to walk together....I mean I don't have anyone here to talk to.
Katie: sure!
Cassandra and Katie both walked out of the main hall towards their dorms.
Cassandra: if you don't mind me asking, what kind of Faunus are you, I mean I know you're a cat because of the ears, but you have that yellow line.
Katie: I honestly don't know....what to call it...it's just one of those things I don't talk about....but I'm still 50% cat.
Cassandra: I've never met a mixed Faunus before, it's always either a full one or not one.
Katie: yeah....I guess I'm special hehehe.
They both continued walking until they made it to their dorms.
Katie: I'll see you tomorrow Cassandra.
Cassandra: you too Katie.
They both opened their doors and walked in. Katie walked into the room to see a female writing with notes all over the room.
Katie: uh hello?
The female turned around and lifted her glasses.
?????: lets see, 5'4, looks to be about 100 pounds, very lean, cat Faunus.....alright, perfect! I need your finger.
Katie hesitantly walked closer and pointed her finger out at the weird girl.
????: good, now place it on this wire on the ground.
Katie: uh.....ok.
Katie did as she was told and a spark flew out the end of the wire.
?????: alright perfect, now hold it.
She quickly got up and picked up a big metal box and put it against the wall.
?????: hold it!
The female places the screws into the wall and tightened the box into the wall and let go.
?????: alright....you can let go.
Katie let go and all of the light were turned on.
?????: I present to you a "Cuban Coffee Machine", some ancient thing I found, I don't even know what a Cuba is but I want to try this.
Katie: alright then....I'm Katie Belladonna.
??????: Diane Scarlatina.
Katie: your Velvet's Daughter?
Diane: Niece, I'm the daughter of her brother.
Katie: fair enough.....I see you like research and such.
Diane: of course I do, this is my life's work, the Cuban Coffee Machine will make sure that I'm up 23/7 so I can continue to search for new things that'll help us win anything!
Katie: I don't think that's very healthy.
Diane: it probably isn't but what am I going to do? Change? Nah, I think everything will be just fine, I mean I've been doing this for two years.
Katie: yeah that's definitely not healthy.
Diane: it's all apart of a plan.....now I'll see you in one hour.
Diane face plant into her bed and immediately went to sleep. Katie walked to her bed and set everything up, a picture of her mother by her bed and a few decorations from her room. After one hour of pure silence a loud alarm went off and Diane quickly got up.
Diane: back to work!
Timeskip to Night
Katie was in her bed with a pillow over her head as Diane continued working.
Diane: alright and once I carry the four then I will be....AH YES! Of course, I'll have sun square root of 85.....now if I put the six here then I should......yes there we go.
The sun shorty came up, Katie couldn't catch a wink of sleep with Diane constantly working. Katie's alarm went off and she quickly turned it off.
Diane: how did you sleep last night?
Katie: please.....don't.....just.....Cuban Coffee.
Katie stood up and went across the notes all over the room and put a cup under the coffee maker, only a little bit coming out.
Katie: it's so little.
Diane: but apparently it packs a lot of sugar, I went through two and a half full cups last night.
Katie: like a full mug?
Diane: yes!
Katie: that's not healthy....that's not healthy at all.
Katie quickly got ready for the day and walked out of the dorm to see Cassandra just leaving.
Cassandra: you look terrible.
Katie: I was up all night....my roommate kept me up with her studies....now I'm drinking Cuban Coffee.
Cassandra: what's Cuba?
Katie: I don't know.....oh well. What is your roommate like?
Cassandra: I have a male roommate, though he's lazy, so there's no issue there.
Katie: I hate to do this but could I crash in your dorm tonight, I'll sleep on the floor, I just can't for the life of me get another sleepless night.
Cassandra: sure thing.
They both went to the main hall to see Pyrrha standing there.
Pyrrha: welcome you two, I hope you had a wonderful first night.
Katie: please Aunt Pyrrha.....no.
Pyrrha: Katie? I didn't recognize you with the bags under your eyes, and your hair is a mess.
Katie: I feel like how the Grudge looks.
Cassandra: ooooh....that's no good.
Katie: surviving on Cuban Coffee.
Pyrrha: what's a Cuba?
Katie: I don't know, my guess it's maybe a type of bean.
Pyrrha: have you spoken to your mother yet?
Katie: no.....I can't......coffee first....then call.
Katie then fell forward and went unconscious.
Cassandra: I'll take her back to my dorm, she can catch up on some rest in there.
Pyrrha: thank you.....er.
Cassandra: it's Cassandra.
Pyrrha: ah, well thank you Cassandra.
Cassandra walked Katie back to her dorm and opened the door, her lazy roommate still sleeping. She put Katie on the bed and tucked her in. Cassandra then left the room as both of the students slept in the beds.
Timeskip the next morning
Katie woke up as she looked outside, seeing the sun was up.
Katie: how long did I sleep for?
Cassandra walked into the room with a cup of Cuban coffee.
Cassandra: I just went next door to get this for you. I can see why you didn't sleep, now you have to get ready, your class starts in an hour.
Katie: wait....what?!
Katie jumped out of the bed and downed the coffee before running across the hall and quickly got ready.
Cassandra: how did you get ready in ten minutes?
Katie: I'm in a rush, now breakfast!
Cassandra: alright.
Katie and Cassandra ran to the cafeteria to quickly get breakfast.
Katie: how long did I sleep?
Cassandra: 24 hours, you were really tired.
Katie: oh I bet I was, I can't believe I slept the entire day away....where is my first class even!?
Cassandra: relax, you have the same first class as me, and from what Diane told me, you have a class with her for the rest of the day. So just find her and you'll find your classes.
Katie: oh joy.
Timeskip to the first class.
?????: Hello Class, I am Mr. Winchester, your Biology teacher, teaching you about the biology about both man and beast.
Katie: wait....this is the teacher, I was told he had a massive bite wound when I was little.
Cardin: alright, first thing we need to discuss is how this class will go.
Cassandra: oh jeez
Both Katie and Cassandra planted their heads on the desk with a loud bang.

Timeskip, Second Year at Signal.
Katie, now a year old was training with Cassandra in the arena. Both were using their fist, the weapon building was being done tomorrow.
Katie: you know, it's going to be weird when you and I have to stop training with our actual fists and use weapons.
Cassandra: yeah.....but hey, atleast we'll still have fun. Are you still trying for Beacon Academy?
Katie: of course I am, what about you?
Cassandra: of course....how awesome would it be if we were on the same team.
Katie: I'd like that a lot as a matter of fact.
The door opened as Diane and Rufus, Cassandra's lazy roommate who is a frog Faunus, walked in.
Diane: hope we don't interrupt this but you two should go to bed, we need to be in top form for weapon building.
Katie: you're actually planning to go to sleep?
Diane: that's right, instead of one hour, I will be doing it for two hours.
Katie: that still isn't healthy.
Rufus: come on, I want to make a massive weapon!
Cassandra: will you get up on time?
Rufus: you know what, I will get up on time!
Timeskip in the morning
Katie quickly got ready and immediately went to class along with Cassandra.
Cassandra: what weapon are you going for?
Katie: I don't want to go with a sword, but I'm thinking maybe an axe would be cool.
Cassandra: yeah! Axes are cool, but what about the gun part?
Katie: shot gun.
Cassandra: I like it.
Katie: what about you?
Cassandra: dagger and flamethrower.
Katie: I like that idea!
They both made it to class and sat in their seats.
Pyrrha: alright everyone, today is the day you make your weapons, this will be your weapon for the rest of your life. You will go to your final academy with this weapon. Make sure you like it....now we have a special guest to help you with your weapons.
Ruby: hi everyone! I'm Ruby Rose and I will be helping you make sure your weapon is the best thing ever!
The door to the class flew open as this one student walked in. Apparently every girl in the school wanted a piece of him, all except Cassandra and Katie, who were far from interested.
Katie: no friggin way.....alright let's start.
Cassandra: right.
They both began quickly working with their weapons, grabbing the blades they need and such and putting it on a miniature.
Katie: these pieces su-
Diane: finished!
Ruby: great! Now into the workshop to make the massive model!
Diane quickly got up and went into the workshop to work on her weapon. Katie and Cassandra quickly finished and went into the workshop to start working on their weapon.
Diane: hello ladies....what have you two been up to?
Katie: oh you know....building.
Diane: this step is so much easier than the miniatures.....Done!
Cassandra: how are you done already?
Diane: Magic. Now I'll see you all later.
Diane pulled down her weapon, revealing a massive mini-gun.
Katie: oh sweet lord.
Timeskip a week later.
Everyone walked around the academy with their weapons on their backs.
Katie: hey Cassandra.
Cassandra: yeah?
Katie: want to train with our weapons tonight?
Cassandra: hell yeah!
The moon rose into the sky as Katie and Cassandra readied their weapons in the arena.
Katie: ready?
Cassandra: always!
The girls have been training like this for months. There's no interest in boys or the latest fashion, it's all about fighting and their bond together.

Timeskip, the night before graduation.

Katie and Cassandra walked through the halls as Diane and Rufus walked ahead.
Diane: Ice Cream on me!
Rufus: oh hell yeah!
Katie's hand accidentally grazed against Cassandra's hand.
Katie: oh....sorry!
Cassandra: you're fine Katie.
Everyone continued walking as the two teenagers slowly enclosed their hands in each others, and continued walking down the hall, heading to the ice cream place.
