Third year was coming to a close and summer was approaching quickly. For most students, this meant they would go home to their families, travel, and forget about school life all together.
But for Hermione and Draco, it was a completely different story. Most nights they would meet up in the corridors, or go on mini dates around the school. The only people who knew were Fay, Blaise, Professor Snape and Dumbledore, and the Weasley twins.
They had broken so many rules secretly that their respective houses were wondering why 50 points were gone by the end of the year. Draco and Hermione were not worried however, but they were nervous.
Draco didn't want to loose Hermione, he didn't know what kind of friends she hung out with over the summer or if she had a muggle boyfriend. He didn't want to believe the possibility, but it still haunted him, even though they had confirmed their boyfriend-girlfriend status in December to each other.
Hermione knew Draco didn't see anybody other than his goons from school during the summer, but she wondered if his fancying to her might dwindle as they spend more time away from each other. She was also worried about how her parents would react. Of course Draco would NEVER tell his until the day after they were married, but she had wrote hers in January, telling them about her and Draco. Her mother and father had wrote back that they were fine with her dating someone, as long as they got to meet him before school started again.
She had told Draco this and he seemed very nervous. They wouldn't be able to do it on the platform because his parents would be there too, so she had to sneak him out during the summer.
Their last night at Hogwarts was here and Hermione sat in the hallway waiting for Draco.
He showed up, as usual.
"Draco," She ran up to him and got buried in a hug. She could feel something run down his cheek, tears. "Draco what's wrong?" She murmured.
"I won't get to see you after tonight." Hermione would contradict him, but she knew the deeper meaning to the message.
"Let's not talk about that right now."
And so they talked of other things, their first date by the lake, their first meeting. All of it.
Until Draco pulled something from his pocket.
"Here, I got you something." He handed her a little box with a gold bow on it.
"Draco you didn't have to."
"No I had to, just look inside."
Hermione opened it and inside was a silver chain necklace with a little "D+H" as the pendant.
Hermione gasped. It was beautiful.
"You like it?" Hermione nodded, speechless.
"Let me put it on." Draco took the necklace and put it around her neck. It fit perfectly.
Hermione turned and stood up, Draco followed in suit.
"Thank you." She took his hand. His warmth warmed her inside.
"You're welcome."
He stepped close to her so their legs were right next to each other.
He looked into her eyes and she looked into his.
Hermione lifted her other hand and put it on Draco's cheek. His hands fell into place, as if they were made to be there.
Draco leaned down and before Hermione knew it, their lips locked.
Fireworks. That's how it felt to Hermione, it felt made to be. Her first kiss. It was nice, Draco was so gentle, she wondered if this was his first too.
They finally broke for air.
"To remember me by?" He said. His eyes were still closed and he pulled her closer into a hug.
"Of course. Write me, please." Hermione felt herself being lifted off the ground.
"Always. I will miss you." Draco hugged her one last time and sat her down.
Dawn was fast approaching so they went their separate ways one last time.
---
"Fay!" Hermione ran up to her friend and pulled her into the bathroom.
"What?" Fay scrunched up her eyes and rubbed them.
"He kissed me."
"OH MY GOD REALLY?!"
Hermione nodded and told Fay the story of how he gave her the necklace, promised to write, and gave her a kiss on her lips.
"Wow. That's so sweet!" Fay and Hermione became like best friends in that year.
They sat in an awkward silence until Fay broke the tension. "Was it good?"
Hermione blushed madly and answered: "Amazing."
-Gryffindor Boys Dorms-
"I swear to god Harry something is up with her. I haven't seen her this happy since, I have never seen her this happy!" Ron wailed. Harry had just woken up and he did not enjoy this mornings episode of conspiracy theory's with Ron.
"Mate nothings wrong. She's just happy to see her parents again! You know she hasn't seen them since Christmas."
"No but it's not that kind of happy, it's different."
"She's fine."
"There is something else going on!"
"Ron even if there is she will tell us at one point, will you shut up and let me sleep it's 4 am!"
Harry buried his face in his pillow, leaving Ron in the dark, all alone.
Then there was a shriek.
Harry woke again around an hour later when a shriek came from the girls dorms.
"What's going on?" He asked as he sat up.
"I dunno mate but it sound pretty bad."
Harry grabbed his wand and glasses and ran from the boys dorms. When he had reached the common room, he took a right turn and headed up the stairwell to the girls dorms. He didn't bother to check the 1st or 2nd years dorms as he went straight for Hermione's.
Thankfully his intuition was right, because inside was horrifying.
Lavender Brown lay on the floor, it seemed as if she had fallen off her bed. Pavarti Patil was curled up in the corner and Fay was under her covers. Hermione stood in the middle of the room and there wasn't the usual Hermione in her eyes.
"Hermione what happened?" It was then he noticed the figure on the ground, cover in shard glass from the window that had been broken.
The figure was in all black and looked like a baby with...with no nose. Outside the window stood a certain death eater, though Harry couldn't place a name.
"Stupefy!" Harry pointed his wand at the death eater and he fell down 14 stories. "As for you, EXPELIARMUS!" Nothing happened.
"Harry that's not going to work he doesn't have a wand!" Hermione piped up.
"What do I do?"
"Swish and flick."
Harry raised his wand and yelled: "WINGUARDIUM LEVIOSA!" The figure rose up from the ground and Harry made a thrusting motion with his hand which sent him out the window.
Harrys eyes turned to Hermione who was shaking.
"Who was that?" Ron asked.
"Voldemort." Hermione said. Her voice was flat and she had stopped shaking. "They are trying to bring him back."
