"i think about you all the time."
you chuckled, looking at younghyun.
"i think about you too," you giggled, sipping your overly sweetened matcha green tea. younghyun's smile faltered for a second before looking out of the cafe window.
"thanks for buying me bubble tea."
"that's what friends are for!" you smiled, looking out as the wispy clouds floated through the sky. meanwhile, younghyun's heart cracked a little as he heard the word "friends". friendzoned once again, by the oblivious and innocent girl i pathetically fell for.
"you look a bit down. what's up?" you asked, watching as the clouds multiplied mysteriously. taking a sip of his caramel boba tea, younghyun sighed.
"i don't know. i want to confess to this girl who's been the love of my life for the past couple years, but i can't seem to convey it to her." you slammed your milk tea on the table, a curiosity sparking in you.
"who?" you asked excitedly, leaning in to hear him.
"it doesn't matter right now. what's the best way to confess to her and make her realize that i like her?" younghyun brushed off your question, changing the subject.
"are you really asking me for girl advice?" you sighed, thinking hard while sipping your tea. "if i were in your shoes, i would make it a big deal! like, roses everywhere, hand her some lilies or roses, and ask her to be your girlfriend!"
younghyun chuckled at how cute you looked while you were talking about something, drumming your fingers on the table and spacing out at the ceiling above.
"i'll keep that in mind. anyway, do you wanna come over to my house next week?"
"sure!"
you walked to younghyun's house, skipping along the sidewalk and humming your favorite song. as you approached his house, you noticed that there were many rose petals scattered in front of his house. did he just confess to his crush? you thought, a happiness blooming in you, but mixed with a complicated feeling that made your chest tighten and your heart sink.
you twisted the doorknob, finding that the door was unlocked. you scanned younghyun's living room, spotting a trail of roses going into the kitchen area of his house. the lights were tinted a pink color, making it feel a little romantic and lively. you peeked through the windows in his living room, seeing younghyun waiting outside and fiddling with a lily in his hand.
you walked outside, watching as younghyun approached you. you were worried that he was going to berate you for coming when he was going to confess to his crush, but instead, his face lit up.
"younghyun!" you smiled at him. he smiled back, hesitantly extending his hand out.
"i..." younghyun didn't know how to word it. straight-forwardly? maybe just subtly?
"i like you. i've liked you for forever. i just want you to be by my side, have late night talks, cuddle, and just love you. will you be my girlfriend?" younghyun felt the pain of rejection before he heard the words. you stared at younghyun, your pupils shaking slightly.
"..."
"yes."
was what younghyun wanted to hear. your heart thumped, a sweet feeling that you hadn't experienced ever flooded you as you felt your cheeks heat up.
"i'm sorry. i need some time to think."
younghyun nodded, watching you walk away, your whole figure shaking.
"i'll wait for you, as long as it takes," younghyun whispered, even though he knew you couldn't hear him. he retreated into his house, picking up the rose petals one by one.
a day passed. then, a month passed. a year passed.
you eventually forgot about younghyun and drifted away from him, but he never forgot about you. the person who plagued his dreams, the person who ran away. he waited and waited, never forgetting you for a moment of his life.
you eventually left, leaving younghyun and his broken heart behind.
