And here you are again, doing what you hate. It's Saturday and the club is not letting anymore people in. You don't understand how people can actually enjoy being here. How do they enjoy the noise that comes out of the speakers and the lung-biting air? You have to admit one thing though: the cocktails aren't half bad.
While you're mixing a margarita your phones suddenly lights up. It's a voice message from your sister. That's odd. You guys never talk, especially not through voice messages. You call her once a year, on her birthday and vice versa. That's it.
You don't wanna know what is going on in her life. She always has been the complete opposite of you. She's had so many boyfriends. She dresses up anywhere she goes. She doesn't leave the house without makeup on. "How will the guys like me if I'm not trying to look my best?" She always says. You never understood her. And you never liked even one of the guys she was with. They were all the biggest douchebags you could imagine. And almost every time she's breaking up with them after a couple of weeks, but getting back together with a guy that's exactly the same the next day. You don't know why and you actually don't wanna know.
So you guys never had anything to talk about. But when she's sending you a voice message it has to be something urgent. You turn around to Kyle: "Hey could you cover for me real quick?" He nods and you go downstairs, to the toilet. It's a bit more quiet down here, so you might even be able to understand what your sister is saying. You take out the ear plugs and press your phone to your ear.
"Heeeeyyyy!" She's clearly drunk. "How awe you?" Really drunk. "Lithen! I know thith may be a bad tiiiime, but Polly died. I thust wanned you to know. Bye."
You could barely understand what she was saying. You think that she told you that your family's dog Polly died. You just shrug your shoulders. The dog never really liked you. She always favoured your sister. Which is probably why she is really upset about it. Your sister never drinks unless something bad happens. She really loved the dog. You kinda feel sad for her, while you stare at a photo she just sent you. It's you and her with Polly, the day you got her.
A tear drops down on your screen. It's not because the dog is dead, but because you guys look so happy on the screen. It seems like it happened in a different life.
Suddenly your mood changes. A melody reaches your ear. It's unknown. It doesn't sound like the stuff they usually play at all. Is it just because you're so far away? It has to be the same noise.
Still, you instantly feel lifted, like you not just cried a few seconds ago. How does this melody make you feel better in an instant?
You go upstairs and you were right, it's not the usual music. The melody is mixed with some heavy base and the DJ is doing his best to destroy it. But still, you can clearly hear the piano. The first instrument you've ever heard, besides base, in "The Bangtan". The melody is sweet and full with emotions.
You've never heard anything like it. And before you know it, it's gone. The DJ changed the song back to the old noise. But this melody does not leave your head for the rest of the night.
