Chapter 7 - Iain
I had a now crippled hero in my arms. It's my fault, I pushed Zoey over the edge and now Kite was paying for it.
And how could it get much worse than this? Add a pissed off hybrid clan of course.
Some woman in a white cloak stood out the most, it was like I've seen her before.
“Well, well, well. What have we've here? Looks like Zoey was useful after all. I had my doubts about Alec selecting her, but look at the progress she's made.” The cloaked woman scoffed. “We haven't even invaded the city yet and she took down one of our greatest threats.”
“Who the hell are you?” I demanded.
The cloaked woman was silent, but then she smiled an awful smile and gave a cruel and wicked laughter. She threw off her cloak and revealed herself.
The woman had knee-high boots with an long asymmetrical black skirt. She wore a black and blue corset that was fitted to be armour. She has fastened a leather glove and a shoulder strap that covered her left shoulder. My jaw dropped, I could not believe it.
It was Nightmaren's first and only queen so far, Amanda Walker aka Queen Amethyst.
“Amethyst… how this is possible? Noah died killing you. How are you back?” I questioned.
“That my dear lycan, is a secret you will never know. The writers can't figure it out either. Regardless, Noah will pay for that. But first there's to deal with you.” Amethyst explained.
She pulled out her leather glove, in which a large sword made of dragonstone popped out and stabbed my arm. Before I could act, Alec arrived.
“Hold it, Amethyst. As crucial it is to destroying the lost hero, we must let him leave here.” Alec admitted.
Amethyst stood there baffled, literally inches away from slitting my throat. “Why not kill him now if he's so important? Why let him leave?”
Alec tsked. “Zoey proved herself and did what needed to be done, we're letting him leave here alive. Besides, it's not like he'd be much useful now.”
Amethyst growled and retracted her blade from my throat. I just glared at Alec. Luna had multiple chances as to killing Alec but chose not to cause she claimed to have loved him too much to stop him, but too sensible to join him. How would she react if she saw his act of mercy now? I managed to get up, still surprised at Alec's mercy and carried Kite.
No spies, no ice storm soldiers following us, no further attacks, no nothing. They just let us leave. I carried Kite to the tunnel, my arm bleeding severely but I didn't care. I helped Kite up into Witch Doctors.
Cause our injuries were too severe for us to be taken back to ECA, Jeannette tended to us firsthand and called Nymph to get us. She didn't ask, Nymph just helped. Jeanette, Cast and Aldo focused on Kite and Nymph helped me with my arm.
“I swear, your lucky it was only your arm. Healing even with magic will take days to fix your arm completely. The scars are most likely permanent. Consider that your lesson for taking on clan leaders by yourself. We don't even have a proper healer to fix you up.” Nymph explained. She wrapped more and more bandages on my arm.
“What about Kite? Is he going to get better?” I dared to have asked.
Nymph didn't look me in the eyes. “Kite is not going to get better. At least not until Aenar or Rakesh gets back. His bones are beyond healing Iain.”
I shook my head, even a tear fell down my cheek. “No, your lying right? Kite is going to get better. He has to, right? He just has to!”
“Iain…” Nymph silently muttered, shaking her head.
She was lying, she had to be lying. That was in my mindset, to this day I remember how that feeling of haunted at my soul. I got up and headed towards the backroom. My heart was beating so loud and fast, I didn't hear Nymph yelling at me to sit my ass back down, nor did I care. How could I? I broke Ahn Kite.
Nymph drove us back. Jeannette lend Kite a wheelchair, so Nymph wheeled him back to the dorm and explained everything to the others. With my unbroken hand, I punched Nymph's car door in frustration.
As you could imagine, it hurt like a lot. Still it didn't compare to the pain in my mind. When I got back. Everyone was so silent. They weren't mad persay, they just felt bad at what happened.
I kept to my room, which was now completely isolated since Syren switched dorms following my break up with her. We were still good friends but, she had mixed feelings about being in the same dorm as her current ex.
I remember Ran, Carnie and the Twins trying desperately to cheer me up. Ran signed my cast and repeated covered it in amine stickers. He even told me about how he was now dating some witch called Echo Silverman. A witch with control over sound.
The Twins tried their best at comedy, which ended up having them both text fighting each other.
Carnie just talked about Lizzie Shards, how she had a major crush on him and how she beat up the entire group of people who locked him in that cage. He also gave me his bucket of Korean BBQ and taught me some Korean words as I taught him a few things about the A1Z26 cipher. Though that Korean BBQ was very tasty, I almost felt cheered up.
I was excused from classes due to my broken arm, and as much as I liked Ran and Carnie's attempts, they weren't helping. I drank some orange juice and headed out the door.
I went the least likeliest of places. I headed to the Beta dorm and saw Trey.
“Ugh what do you want? I'm playing Creed of Assassins right now.” Trey muttered, his eyes concentrating on the game.
“Just to talk. How you been since Seoul? Are people still hating on you?”
Trey blew a raspberry. “Saura helped me out, She spun the story to make it seem like my now dead and abusive mum was orchestrating the whole thing. They lifted my punishments and now I'm on the top 15.”
“Ah, I see.” I commented.
“Heard about what happened last night. Haven't seen you wearing a cast since that time we went to New York.” Trey explained, pressing multiple buttons.
I remembered that, how could I forget? Ethan had a tournament in the American Colonies and invited me to come watch. While we were there, we went to an all magic comic book convention. They were selling the legendary comic origin of Crescent Moon and Magnet Man, only 150 of the original stock were ever made. We split the money fifty-fifty, unfortunately we have trouble sharing said comic, and we ended up ripping said comic.
I strangled Trey in public and he retaliated by breaking my left arm. Ethan separated us both and dragged us both by the ears out of the convention center. Ethan had nothing to say, though he did spend the rest of the trip laughing about how he was going to embarrass us by telling everyone back in London why Trey broke my arm.
“I remember. We were so mad at each other, neither of us really did found out what drove Crescent Moon and Magnet Man to be sworn enemies.” I admitted.
“We were 9, who could blame us? All that mattered was finding out the ending.” Trey commented.
“Listen Trey….” I started. “I'm sorry.”
“About?” Trey arched an eyebrow.
“The comic, how things turned out between us, everything. I didn't even want the comic, you could've had it, I just wanted to know the ending. I'm sorry that I had to leave you alone with Mari Anne. Alec's going to evade any day now, I wanted to ask you this: if we both survive, can we, start over? To before segregation got between us? Like it used to be? ” I questioned.
Trey dropped the controller and got up. “That's all I ever wanted to hear you say.”
We shook hands and then I left. At least that problem was solved. Suddenly, I looked up and saw the barrier being frozen over. Soon it was completely frozen until it shattered and the barrier was completely gone. Nothing was between the clans and Element City.
