Chapter 13: Danny

With my luck it's fitting that I'm number 13. Guessing you be thinking “Your friends get stuck in the Dreamscape and you go running for mommy?”

Looking back, I can see why people would get upset. But just so I'm understood, I had no idea they were in there. I left the day before with Bianca to see my mother.

If the clans were coming to kill you, wouldn't you like to see your mother. God forbidden anything happen to me and my mother is left alone in her apartment.

Bianca and I went to New York. I found my mom's apartment and knocked on the door. Mom nearly tackled me down with her bear hug.

“Danny, I was so worried about you. Are you eating enough? Ever since you called, I've been so nervous. I almost thought you weren’t coming” Mom smiled.

“Hi Miss Lincoln, how's the sobriety going?” Bianca questioned.

Mom paused to think. “Great, about 8 months sober. Danny your father is here, apparently they evacuated the city so he's here for now, so please behave.”

I immediately frowned upon coming inside. “I will if he does.”

“Ugh… you're still here?” Dad muttered.

“Umm, Yes?” I commented.

“Don't say yes in that ungrateful way, your mother is a saint for letting you say here.” Dad scowled before chugging another bottle of Corona.

I rolled my eyes. The asshole that is my father is Victor Michaelis, who I regret inheriting his name. Victor met my mother at a Alcoholics Anonymous meeting after the court ordered him to go.

My mother had a proud 6 years of sobriety. That was until she met my father, who made her cave into drinking again. After she had me, she promised herself to me to try to be sober for me. She relapsed after the divorce. It was my fault she was trying so hard.

After that EMP, things were never the same.

”Danny are you sure we should be doing this?”

”Naomi, I promised I’d get us an A+ and I'm doing it.” I assured her.

Naomi sighed. “Why can't we do this at your house or my house where it's safe. Why at this electrical plant?”

”You don't have the electricity to do this in your house to do this, plus my dad will kill me if he found we did this.” I gulped.

To this day, I wonder what would have happened if I listened, would my fate have been the same?

We had a science fair project. Unfortunately for poor Naomi’s sake, she was paired up with me. We were testing reactions when charging certain objects with car batteries.

We decided to go above and beyond and go to an electrical power plant right here in Queens.

Naomi took precautions and put on rubber gloves and I did the same. I connected the jumper cables to the electrical coil. But nothing occurred.

”Nomi, I think we messed up. Shouldn't this have exploded?” I tilted my head.

Naomi paused then looked at the jumper cable. “Here's the problem, you didn't connect it to the battery properly.”

Then it happened. The accident. In my Flash styled origin, we were both shocked by the lightning. I had created an EMP that lasted a whole three days.

I woke up in the hospital. I miraculously survived, Naomi wasn’t as lucky. That's when I met him, Aenar.

”You must be Daniel Michaelis… I'm Aenar. It was quite the miracle that you have survived such a, shocking turn of events.”

”Please tell me your here to cover my hospital bills?” I pleaded.

Aenar chuckled. “I’ll admit, it was a large amount of hospital fees I had to pay. But that is not why I'm here. Tell me, have there been incidents like this before?”

I had to pause before I could think an answer. “Well, sometimes when I'm mad, the lights flicker on and on.”

”I see… do you always get into trouble?”

”Not always… I have this… gift I have at using persuasion. Almost always I talk my way in and out of trouble or no. I don't know why.” I replied.

Aenar wrote something down. “Do you see your relatives often or not at all?”

”Come to think of it, I haven't met anyone on my father's side.” I had brought up.

Aenar had explained it quite clearly. I was in shock. I was one of 12 people destined for greatness. I was an Elemental from my father's side. It had skipped my father and my powers were passed on to me.

I was invited to go to school in Wales, Alaska when my father found out.

”Absolutely not. I never got the chance to go ECA, why should he?” Dad grumbled.

”For starters, judging by that EMP he created, he needs to be able harness his powers. Not to mention he does owe a great debt to the school after he paid his medical bills.”

My father left in a fit of rage when my mom stepped inside, Aenar filled her in on what happened.

”I don’t know, Alaska is pretty far. What if he gets hurt and I'm not there?” Mom gulped.

”Larissa right? I assure you, we have both a doctor and counselor on campus. Nothing will happen to your son on my watch.” Aenar assured her.

And that's how I got to ECA as my parents got a divorce.

I unpacked my stuff in my room and helped Bianca put it on her side of the room. Dad had too much crap, he took up both of the guest rooms so Bi and I had to share.

“How long are we here again?” Bianca muttered, wrapping herself in sheets.

“Two, Three days tops.” I explained. “Just long enough to see Mom has another relapse again with Dad around.”

“Alright… your mom is super nice.” Bianca admitted while yawning.

“Yeah, I don't deserve her, same with my dad. She should have been dating a millionaire but she got stuck with a major asshole.” I yawned.

I crawled into bed, just wanting to stay in there, a world without the clans, no wars, just the bed and I.
