Chapter 8 - Iain
“What's going on?” Trey asked.
“I'm not sure.” I replied. The barrier had finally collapsed. Element City was now open to invasion. I grabbed my stomach as the P.A. came on, and Ice Storm’s leader Eldingar spoke into the microphone.
“Good morning, teachers and students please pardon my interruption. In case you don't know, Ice Storm finally broke your barrier down.” Eldingar spoke. “How because there are hybrid children here, as well children in general, a fair warning to all. Unless you want to be blown to bits, I suggest you leave as soon as you can.”
“He can't be serious, can he?” Trey looked over.
Suddenly, the 3rd floor of Epsilon blew up. It was literally blown to bits. The roof froze off. I highly doubt any survivors if there were anyone on that floor.
“Apparently he is, go and get Imogen and Spark!” I shouted.
I followed him up the staircase. I saw Jade Stripe and Jessica Amberton running in high heel wedges down the stairs, though I didn't see Courtney Mason. I arched an eyebrow as I saw Imogen leaving her room grabbing a live lobster with rubber bands on its claws.
“Imogen? Why are you carrying a live lobster?” I questioned.
“This is my new pet, I'm calling it J.K. Lobster.” Imogen smiled.
I literally facepalmed. She could die at any minute and she worried about a pet lobster. Trey had been long gone, as were Spark and Alex. I had step outside when the door suddenly slammed shut. A few students were still in there, the dorm was flooding with water. People were trapped in there. That's when I realized the people still in, including Courtney Mason who was unable to break the window, were being judged.
I thought about Zoey possibly having told Eldingar about Jade and Courtney, about what they did. About half the Beta dorm defended what they did in Seoul to Zoey. I figured Zoey must have told Eldingar what happened so he did this.
“You can't just leave us in here! I don't want to die!” Courtney Mason yelled, slamming her fists against the window.
“You should have thought about that when you hurt Zoey.” I admitted. I probably could have saved her, but she didn't deserve it.
I looked away when the dorm was struck by lightning. If they didn't drown, they were electrocuted, a fitting end to Courtney Mason. As far as I knew, Jade Stripe was the only person alive at the time, but I knew that karma was coming to collect her debt.
I ran in the checkerboard hallway when suddenly I see the twins at the end of it, yelling at me to run faster. I looked back and the barren hallway was to freeze over. I then watched as Zeta students ran out of the dorm in fear. Mei-Mei and Sunny Kim was leading everyone out when the second floor gave in, capsizing the entire building. Sunny grabbed two kids before they could be crushed.
Gamma was screaming as the dorm itself was being struck multiple times by lightning. Several fires were started inside the building. If I had to guess from what I remembered, probably 10 of the 45 students in there survived.
I wanted to help them so bad but I had to keep running away from the ice freezing over the building. The twins grabbed me before the entire building froze. Frost was around my feet and clinging to the edge of my pants. I was almost a frozen ice statue.
“Iain, Alpha's on fire!” Ashlee panted, being short out of breath.
“And I'm pretty sure the Delta dorm was just flooded.” Ash explained. Both had several burn marks and was smoking as they were burned by water.
My eyes widen. “Did everyone get out?”
“Almost, we can't find Ran or Airlene.” Ashlee responded.
I pushed them out of the way. I stopped a few feet away from the burning dorm. I never forgot how much rage we had towards the clans at specific moment.
“Celi, where's Ran and Wheeler!” I yelled.
Celina coughed. “Wheeler got out but Ran ran back in. He said it was something important.”
“He went back in there?” I questioned.
“We tried to stop but he insisted, saying he couldn't leave his backpack behind.” Evans replied.
I winched in pain and took off my jacket. “That's it, I'm going in after him!”
The flames roared, completely engulfing the house. An explosion occurred inside the dorm.
“The house!” Noah cried in anguish.
“Don't worry, I can fix it!” Airlene commented.
“My Ran!” I screamed.
No way Ran could have survived that. Suddenly, a burnt bookbag flew out the window, smacking Danny across the face.
I opened the bookbag and almost cried. It was our audiotapes. Every since one we made, along with some marshmallows and Reese's cups and a note.
—Save for my friend's graduation - Ran—
I began to week then I heard a literal roar. A full grown dragon came out of the crumbling dorm. It had came toward us. At first I had thought it was just a regular dragon from Eldingar's army. Then it purred, rubbing against my leg, a bag of M&M's in it's fangs..
It morphed back into a soot covered Ran. His hoodie was covered in burned holes.
“Has anyone seen my backpack?” Ran asked, coughing up ash.
