Colby eventually went back to sleep, but I couldn't be bothered to even try. I wasn't tired. And I was simply scared.
I sat watching a movie on Colby's laptop as the sun rose. I closed the laptop and made my way downstairs. I opened the front door quietly and sat in the driveway, watching the sun slowly rise. It was peacefully silent, the birds not even chirping yet. All the stress of my life melted away in this moment.
I sat there until the sun fully rose, then went back inside. "Where were you?" Corey said as I walked into the kitchen. "Watching the sunrise." I sat down at the table next to Devyn. "That sounds peaceful" she said longingly. I laughed, "yeah, it was honestly like a therapy session."
I heard someone come down the stairs, and looked over to see Colby. He was rubbing his eyes as he groggily made his way to the table. "Babyyyyy" I said and wrapped my arms around his neck as I stood. "Morning princess." He chuckled. "What are you doing today?" I said as I played with the back of his hair. "Editing the new series, and spending time with you." He said and kissed my forehead. I smiled, "I have to hang out with Kat today. I haven't seen her in a couple days." He smiled, "you two can hang out while Sam and I edit. Then maybe we can go on a double date." I smiled and nuzzled my face into his neck.
"Why can't we come!" Corey said and pouted his lip out. Colby laughed, "we can make it a triple date." I smiled as Corey said, "we actually have plans sorry" Colby rolled his eyes, "then why did you pout?" He laughed, "I'm kidding brotherrrr we should all go ice skating or bowling or something." I gasped, "that sounds so fun!!" Just then Sam started to walk down the stairs, "what sounds fun?"
"We are going on a triple date tonight if you and Kat are down" Colby said as I sat back down at the table. "I'll have to ask her, but I think that would be fine." Just then Kat burst through the front door and stomped to the kitchen. "YOU." She said and pointed to me. I looked at her with wide eyes, "me?" I pointed to myself. "Get over here!" She said and pointed directly in front of her. I got up and rushed over, she pulled me into a tight hug, "you scared me so much!! Prison?! Are you kidding?!" I laughed, "I'm okay! Calm down!" She squeezed me tighter, "my best friend is a criminal!!" Everyone laughed, "no im not! It was a mistake! Let go I can't breathe!" She let me go and smacked my arm, "you have a lot of explaining to do." She was playing up this whole 'I'm mad at you because you're a felon now' act but she was smiling like a fool.
"Alright!! Let's go talk it over with some breakfast." I walked to Colby, who was leaning against the door frame of the game room. "I'll see you later?" He nodded and I kissed him, then walked to the front door. Kat followed me as we made our way outside and to her car.
"Are you really mad at me?" I said as she pulled out of the driveway, "of course not Cora! I just want to hear all about it. I was so scared for you. I thought I lost my best friend." I looked over at her as she drove, "you didn't lose me I'm right here, it was all a crazy misunderstanding." She nodded and pulled into the breakfast place.
We sat down and she looked at me with daggers for eyes, "Kat! You said you weren't mad!" She laughed, immediately losing the look in her eyes, "I know! I'm joking! Tell me everything." I sighed and began to tell her everything that went down, from the minute we got to the forest, to being arrested, then to getting out. She watched me as she scooped her eggs into her mouth. "Wow. Cora...I can't believe you put Sam and Colby in the closet." I laughed, "they are felons! They would have been screwed!" She nodded, "you're right. They wouldn't have been able to get out OR get you out." I sucked in my bottom lip, "I didn't even think of that.." she sighed, "well I'm glad you're out of there fairly unscathed." I nodded in agreement.
"Anyways, I'm changing the subject. We want to have a triple date tonight. You and Sam, me and Colby, Devyn and Corey" she smiled, "that sounds like fun, what are we doing?" I shrugged and ate a piece of bacon. "Corey mentioned ice skating or bowling" she gasped, "we should do both...even if it's October and ice skating is out of season....oh my god it's October! Cora! Your birthday is coming up!" I smiled, my birthday was on Halloween, which was two weeks away. "Yeah, I know." I shrugged. "We should have a party" she mumbled with food in her mouth. "Like a halloween party." I shook my head, "I really don't like parties..." she looked up suddenly, "oh my god I forgot about...I'm sorry."
I gave her a reassuring smile and breathed out a small laugh, "it's alright, maybe we can just do something small...with just our group of friends." She nodded, "I think that would be fun! Don't worry about a thing, I'll plan everything."
We finished up breakfast and Kat dropped me off at my apartment. When I got inside I sighed and walked to the bedroom. When I looked in the mirror I was shocked at how ghostly I looked. It looked like I hadn't slept in years. I rolled my eyes and turned away, going to the bathroom and grabbing a face mask. I wanted to relax fully, since the past couple weeks have been so stressful. I ran the bath as I put on the purple clay face mask.
As I laid in the steaming water I let my mind go numb, everything melted away as I closed my eyes.
