We spent the next couple days hanging around the hospital, my dad was already doing so much better. I didn't want to leave him, but Kat and I had to get back to work. "Are you sure you're going to be okay if I leave?" I said as I grabbed my dads hand. He smiled a bit, "Cora, I'm going to be fine plus I have Sarah here to help me. Your dreams are waiting for you in LA." I smiled, I was having deja vu from when I was telling Colby to go back for his meeting. "Okay, but if anything goes wrong and I mean ANYthing, I expect a call. I'll be here as soon as possible." He chuckled, "Alright squirt." He said and I bent down to kiss his cheek. "Are you still coming for my birthday?" I said and he frowned a bit, "I don't think I'll be able to make it sweetie, I'm using all my personal time off for this." He said and gestured to his bandaged body. I sighed, "it's okay dad, you'll just have to come for Christmas or something...or whenever you get holiday pay." He smiled once again, "I guess so" just then my mom walked through the door, I smiled slightly at her. She wasn't my favorite person in the world but now that I knew her reasons for doing what she did I had a bit more sympathy. She smiled for a split second and then turned away before I grabbed my stuff and headed for the door, "bye dad I love you." I said and waved, leaving the room.
Kat was outside on the phone when I got outside, she was talking to Sam about something, then she turned to me. "Okay hold on I have to go." She said and then hung up. "What was that about?" I raised my eyebrow suspiciously. She laughed, "nothing Cora! We just have to get to the airport." She said as the Uber pulled up. I let it go and got in, holding my bag to my chest. I didn't want to leave but I couldn't help but be excited to see Colby. The ride to the airport was silent as Kat typed away on her phone. She was clearly either mad about something, or was planning something, I couldn't tell.
The flight may have only been 8 hours long, but it felt like an eternity. Once we landed and got our bags Kat texted the boys that we were ready. As we walked to the terminal my stomach filled with butterflies, I couldn't wait to see Colby.
We walked through the doors leading outside, I scanned the line of cars lined up along the curb, until I saw the iconic red corolla with Colby leaning on the hood. I smiled and walked up to him as he spotted me. "Hey babe" he said and kissed me, grabbing my bag. "Hey" I said softly and walked to the car as he put my bag in the trunk. Sam and Kat were reuniting as well. "How's your dad doing?" He said and opened my door, gesturing for me to get in the car. "He's doing much better. The first thing he asked me about when he was awake was you" I said and he laughed. We got in the car and he grabbed my hand, waiting for Sam and Kat to get in, "I wish I could have met him." He said and caressed my hand with his, "me too, but one day you two will meet." I said with a smirk as we drove off.
We dropped Sam and Kat off at Kat's place, then started to drive to mine. "Cora, I don't want to bring it up again but I feel so bad about the whole Jen thing." I shook my head, frowning slightly. "It's okay Colby..I just don't trust her. Why would she do that if she broke up with you? Why would she call you heartless if she wanted you so bad now." I didn't look at him, I just kept my eyes on the road in front of us. He rubbed my hand with his, "I don't know..she's crazy. But I need you to know that I have no feelings whatsoever for her. And I never will. She filled my life with a darkness that I couldn't shake." I finally looked over and he shook his head, "I couldn't shake it until I met you." He looked over for a second flashing a small smile. "I love you Cora, and I just don't want you to think I would ever cheat on you." I chuckled a little, "I love you too Colby." I said as we pulled up to my apartment.
It felt really good to be back home. We walked into the bedroom and I instantly plopped onto the bed. "Do you want to take a nap? Then we can go to dinner or something?" Colby said and sat next to me. I laid my head on his lap as he played with my hair, "yeah that sounds good." I spoke softly as I looked up at him. He smirked and laid back on the bed, opening his arms, "Alright, come here" he said softly and i repositioned myself to be in his arms. My head laid on his chest as I listened to his heartbeat. "I'm glad you're home." He whispered and kissed my head. "I'm glad to be home." I whispered back and then fell asleep.
I woke up hours later, still on Colby's chest. I looked up so I could see his face, his eyes were closed and he was quietly snoring. I smiled and kissed his jawline, he tightened his grip a bit the second he realized I was awake. "How'd you sleep." He said groggily, still not opening his eyes. "I slept fine." I said and laughed. He finally opened his eyes and smirked at me, "have I ever told you how beautiful you look right when you wake up." I rolled my eyes and slapped his chest lightly, then rolled out of the bed. "Are we going to dinner?" I said and walked to my closet. He checked the time, "yeah we have to go to my place first though." I picked out my outfit and got dressed before we walked out of my apartment and to his car.
"Why are we going to your place first did you forget something?" I usually wasn't suspicious but he usually wanted to rush and get food so him wanting to stop at home was strange. "Yeah I forgot something" he said simply as he pulled onto his street. There were so many cars parked along the road, most of them in front of his house. I raised my eyebrows, "hm you forgot something alright." I mumbled causing him to look over and smirk, he parked the car and we got out. I stopped, crossing my arms and looking at him. He came over, laughing at me, "come on, trust me" he said and grabbed my hand.
When we opened the door everyone turned and greeted us with smiles. "We put this together so you could see everyone tonight, welcome home baby" Colby said and kissed the side of my head. I wasn't the biggest fan of parties but I was so excited to see everyone tonight. Colby and I walked to the bar and got drinks, then started to mingle. I scanned the crowd looking to see who I wanted to talk to, when I saw Jen and Jason talking to eachother.
Now that's a match made in heaven.
