Chapter 7
I woke up at 9 pm that night. I was slightly disoriented when all of the days events rushed through my head giving me another headache.
"Ughhhhh."
I probably looked like hell. I got up to check the statues of my face. Just like i'd predicted, hell. My eyes were red and puffy and my hair looked like it had been through a hurricane. Eyeliner was all over my face.
I heard a knock at my door. "Honey, can we talk? Your father--Derek and I feel really bad about what took place earlier today."
"Whatever."
She obviously took that as a yes. She pushed the door open and sat down my bed. She patted the spot next to her. I didn't make a move for it. She sighed.
"I know this is hard for you, what with all the moving and your mom and stuff."
I gave her the coldest look I could possibly managed. She didn't even look fazed.
"How long?"
"How long what?"
"How long until I have to leave." I looked at my clock. Today was September 8 and my birthday was only 5 days away, which was... September 13.
"A little less than a week."
I started to get a little scared.
"What date."
"Ummm September 13th."
At first I thought she was just joking. THen reality set in.
"You. Want. Me. To. Move. On. My. Birthday." I choked the words out. I could feel myself turning red again.I was trying to breath to keep myself from ringing her throat. I could do it if I wanted to...
"Yes." I could see her inching towards the door little by little.
"No!" I yelled.
"Stacey calm down."
"I don't want to come down! Finding out you guys aren't my real parents was hard. Finding out I have to move away from everything and everyone i've ever known. But this...HELL NO!"
"Watch your language Stacey."
"How am I supposed to celebrate my birthday?! How am I supposed to tell my friends?!"
"You can celebrate your birthday this weekend. Derek has everything planned out. And as for your friends, just tell them that you have to move." LeeAnn looked so calm, like I didn't look like a tomato right now.
I turned back to the vanity where the mirror was. It wasn't till I gripped the edges that I realized I was crying.
"Get. Out." I didn't have to turn around to know that she had booked it out the door.
I will be mature. I will be mature. I will be mature.
Ok Stacey, calm yourslef. Derek is throwing you a birthday bash...which I guess would now double as a goodbye party. You will just ignore Derek and LeeAnn.
I walked downstairs, ready to ignore the people I thought were family. I walked to the kitchen passing by Derek as if he wasn't there. So far, so good.
"Hello Stacey."
I ignored him.
I ate in silence then went to sleep without saying goodnight to anybody.
The next morning....
I woke up right on time. I had a lot of things to do and a lot of people I needed to talk to.
I quickly took a shower, brushhed my teeth. I chose to wear dark skinny jeans with a purple and blue tank top that said Bite Me on it. I paired those with my black converse and a little eyeliner. I put my hair into a side ponytail. I went down to the kitchen to eat some cereal.
"Goodmorning Stace." LeeAnn and Derek said simultaneously.
I quickly finished my cereal and grabbed all my stuff.
"Bye." was the only thing I said to the both of them.
As I was walking out the door I could swear I heard Derek say,"We better give her one hell of a birthday party."
I jogged to school that morning and spotted Sara, Lacy, and Dan over in the regular corner. It soon would only be regular for them.
"Hey guys."
"Hey." Sara and Lacy said.
Dan had his earphones and was humming to himself,
"If a girl won't come 'round, she must be a lesbian.
Turns me down, she must be a lesbian."
I pulled an earphone out of his ear and was about to say hey when Lacy said,"No, if a girl 'won't come 'round' its because they saw your face."
Everyone but Dan laughed.
"Hey Danny." I chuckled.
"Hey sexy."
I simply rolled my eyes. Danny has always been the hugest flirt but he was still one of my closest friends.
"Don't even danny." I said while chuckling.
Danny wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me towards him.
"You know you want me." Dan whispered in my ear.
I was half-expecting Lacy to have a comeback like always when I noticed that Sara and Lacy were having their own little conversation.
"In your dreams." I laughed while taking his arm off me.
He fake pouted.
"Save your flirtacious moves for your lover."
"And that would be..."
"Lacy duhhh."
He rolled his eyes at that.
Lacy and Sara walked back over to us with Shane following close behind.
"Guys--"
The first bell then chose that moment to ring signaling that everyone needed to get to class.
"Listen, I have to tell you guys plus something at lunch so be there okay?" I asked while walking away.
"Ok." Everyone said.
"Later guys."
How was I supposed to tell them without mentioning me being adopted? Only Sara knew the truth. I'll have to figure something out by lunch.
