𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘇𝗲 (𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒔)

The creature smiled brightly at you and waved. You waved back, eyes still wide and mouth agape. You snapped out of your trance and gave an excited smile.

"Hi there." You cooed, waving a finger at his face.

It chirped and nuzzled your palm. You could feel the scales on top of his head. It looks like a mermaid but a bit more robotic looking.

"Holy moly, you're so cute!" You traced your finger from his head to its nose.

The little Mer made a purring sound and swished his tail happily. You heard sounds coming from the other side of the pool so you tilt your head upwards and what you saw made you blink rapidly.

There were more Mers approaching from behind.

There was another small one, the same size as Bee, you decided to call him that because his colors match the color of a bee. But this one was a bluish-grey color with a pair of fins on his back that looks a lot like wings. He has a small red 'V' shaped ornament on his forehead.

Your eyes trailed over to the rest of them.

A large Mer with a black tail and a scar going across his eye to cheek, he was also glaring at you with cold blue eyes.

One with red and white colorings, hard blue eyes and a scowl etched on his face.

Two Mers had similar colors of black and white. One was slightly smaller than the other with a blue crystal visor covering his eyes and a playful smirk on his face.

The other had icy blue eyes and also has a red 'V' shaped head ornament with a larger pair of fins fluttering behind him, his face was unreadable to you.

The Mer next to him has the same form, only a bit taller and his head ornament was yellow and his tail was blue with black and yellow splashes.

A white Mer with green and red stripes, the fins on his head changed color once in a while. His blue eyes gaze at you with inquisitiveness.

Two identical Mers were side by side, shoulders touching each other. One was bright carmine and the other was a perfect shade of golden. Both of them had blue eyes as well.

A Mer, larger than the others with royal blue and red colors, he had two sharp fins on the side of his head and calm blue eyes. He was in front of the group, he gave a low croon to Bee.

The little Mer beside you clicked at him. He gave you one last nuzzle before he swam to his pod. He stopped beside the other small Mer and gave him a hug. The ash grey Mer laughed and hugged back.

The large red and blue one watched the young ones with gentle eyes.

'The leader' you thought.

He turned to you and gave you a respectful nod before diving back down. The rest followed suit after him. You stared wide-eyed.

How deep is this pool?

Your eyes started to dry and sting so you blinked. Looking down at your now cold and momentarily forgotten toast, you finally realized what you were going to deal with.

With a nervous gulp, you walked back into your office and sat on the chair. You leaned back and looked at the ceiling.

You could only hope you were good enough to help them.

Day 2

"Yes, sir. Alright. Yes, I will. Thank you, sir."

You sighed as the phone turned off. You placed a hand at the back of your head and with one foot, pushed the wall behind you to spin the chair you were sitting on. You closed your eyes.

The second day of work.

You talked with your boss about the creatures you are in charge of. He told you that there was another pod that he wanted to show you, but he needs you to get accustomed to the pod you were in a room with.

You yawned and rubbed your eyes. You didn't really sleep last night. It didn't help that you have a slight case of insomnia.

Splash.

Your eyes snapped open.

You instantly regret doing that.

"Someone make the room stop spinning, please!" You winced as the world around you slowly came to a stop.

You stood with shaky legs and stepped out carefully to the pool.

There, you saw the visor wearing black and white Mer sitting on one of the large rocks. His tail flicked and made a small splash in the water. He looked at your form and his visor brightened as he gave a friendly smirk.

"Hey there 'lil lady."

You stared. What the hell?
