(Fluff)
Morrison and Amari stood with you in your office. You had called Lena in since you had gotten an answer on the whole 'who is going to be her commander' ordeal. She was quick to arrive, just as you had expected she would be. She eyed you, frowning slightly when she saw Captain Amari was there as well.
"Oxton, we've come to a decision." Jack spoke up, causing Lena to shift her attention to him. She stood tall with her hands behind her back and her chin up just like I had taught her to do. "Captain Amari here will be your new trainer." You could see Lena's mood drop at what she had heard just by looking at her eyes. "However, we have decided that you can stay a part of commander (L/N)'s team." She immediately lit up, now unable to sit still in the spot she was standing. "Next week, you'll start training with Amari. Good luck." Morrison said before he left the office. Ana introduced herself and talked about the new training sessions before she too left.
"I told you I'd ask about your request." You said, arms crossed. Lena couldn't stand still anymore, she blinked forward and before you knew it, the girl was hugging you, rather tightly as well. You stood awkwardly before clearing your throat. "I am still your commander Oxton..." She only giggled before she backed off of you.
"Thank you! Thank you so much commander (L/N)!" She beamed. You only allowed yourself a small smile before you had politely asked her to leave your office. She may have thought you to be cold a few times, but truthfully you just didn't want to get attached to her. You've gotten attached with some agents in the past, and when they died, it was the hardest thing you had to deal with.——————
Your team had a mission today. What did that mean? You went as hard as you could on your team, especially Lena. Since she was apart of the team, she had to train with you and the others up until the mission before she went back to Amari. When you first told her about the mission, she was extremely excited. It was her first mission with your team.
While she was excited, you were nervous. Even though you knew that all your soldiers were well trained and ready, you were still worried, especially for Lena. You couldn't tell why, you made sure not to get attached. You wondered if that's why you did eventually grow attached to her...
The soldiers you had trained were all ready and on board the ship, you were the last one on. As you all took off, you made sure to go over the plan of action over once more before you took a seat away from your teammates. Only, one person didn't allow that. Lena blinked over to the seat across from you. As she talked to you, you gave short responses to try and hint that you weren't up for talking. Of course, that didn't stop her though.
The ride was a long one, about two hours long and Lena happily talked through the whole time. At one point, you did end up breaking down and talked with her. Once you all had arrived at the mission point, you wished everyone good luck and you let them off. You waited until everyone else was off, sighing as you stared outside. "Commander?" Of course Lena had stayed by you, giving you a look of concern.
"What's wrong Oxton?" You ask, glancing over to her.
"That's what I should be asking you?" You shook your head.
"Nothing. I'm fine."
"Are you nervous?"
"I wouldn't quite say nervous..." You reply, turning to face Lena completely. She gave you a reassuring smile.
"We'll do fine! Besides, we were trained by you." You didn't reply, and instead just merely nodded. Lena frowned slightly before she blinked in front of you. Within a split second, her lips were pressed against yours. You tensed up at first, but quickly relaxed as you returned the small gesture. Once she pulled away though and you could see her red cheeks, you sighed and shook your head.
"Don't do it again." You said firmly, gabbing your gun and running out of the ship to join the rest of your team. You clearly remembered seeing the expression on her face after you had said that. It clouded your vision and filled you with guilt. You may have adapted feelings for her but there was no room in war for love.——————
Your team was being pushed back. The enemies were a lot stronger than any of you had expected, and you were on the verge of calling a retreat, there was only one major problem with that. You couldn't see Lena anywhere.
She had followed you out the ship, you watched her blink past, and nearly the whole fight you had an eye on her. You turned away for two minutes and now you had no idea where she was. Finally, you had no choice. "Retreat back to the ship! I'll catch up!" You barked to your team.
"Commander you can't go in alone!"
"I said go!" You shouted aggressively before you ran straight into enemy lines.
Eventually, you were able to find her, but she was injured, surrounded by a crowd of enemies. You were infuriated at the sight. Normally, you would try and think up of a plan, but you were afraid they'd kill her by the time you did. So you did the only thing you could think of on the spot, you aimed and you fired.
Lena looked up in surprise, but smiled weakly once she noticed it was you. You tried your best to quickly get rid of the enemies, but you weren't quick enough. They were able to reach out to backup before you managed to knock them all down.
You knelt by Lena's side, trying to get a good look at her wounds. She sat still for you, but she stayed quiet which was unusual for her, but you figured it was about earlier. You were about to ask her a question when she gasped. "(Y/N)! Move!" You thought you had hurt her at first, but when you looked up you saw the reflection of a guy in her goggles. Once you spin around and stood up, you felt a sharp pain in your shoulder. You yelled out in pain, grabbing the enemies arm as the sharp pain went deeper. Glancing over, you saw a blade digging deep into your shoulder.
The enemy nearly matched your strength, but your left arm practically useless, he was slowly winning. You glanced back but noticed that Lena had moved. Before you could call out to her, the enemy shouted in pain, the force that was being put on the blade was removed and you were able to take advantage of the attack, knocking the man to the ground and shutting him up for good. Glancing up, you saw Lena with a cheeky smirk. "Told ya you taught us well."
You could only roll your eyes, wincing and groaning as you forced the knife out from your shoulder. "We need to go, I already told the others to retreat."
"And you didn't go with them?" She asked the both of you helped each other to walk away from the enemy line.
"I needed to find you." You said simply as if it was nothing, not knowing how it meant to Lena.
