(Fluff)
Ever since you had graduated high school you served in your country's military. You weren't very good in combat, but you were very fast, very agile and you were one of the best medics on your team. Since your mother was a highly appraised doctor while she was alive, you had known all about the things that she did. You use to love hearing the stories of how she saved people's lives. She never told you that people had died under her care, you thought that she saved everyone. You had to find out the hard way, after she died.
You were sixteen when she passed away from a heart attack and you were left alone since dad was never in the family picture. Going through all her things, you found a folder full of letters. Curious, you opened in and started to read through them. The letters weren't directed to anyone, but you noticed your mother's handwriting. Each piece of paper was a letter that described times she had let people die. You were horrified and you held a sense of grudge against her after finding that out. She was one of the best doctors in the country so you knew for a fact that she had the ability to save those people. That was what drove your decision to join the military right after high school graduation. You'd do what your mother had failed to do, you'd make sure no one died under your care while there was something you could do to prevent it.
For years, that's how it went. None of your patients ever died because of something you could prevent. So when Overwatch was struggling, you weren't surprised when they contacted you. You resigned from the military and joined the Overwatch team instead. That's when you met her.
Angela Ziegler was the top best doctor and you had always looked up to her. She was your biggest role model, you wanted to be as skilled as her in medicine more than anything. Since you were going into the medical field in Overwatch, she was one of the first people you met. She introduced herself the first time you met her and you did your best not to fangirl, but of course you still went off on a ramble about how it was such an honor to meet her.
You've been a part of the organization for a few days, but now everything was official and you'd be sent to the medical bay to start real work as Ziegler's assistant. Seeing as she was the highest ranked medic of the organization, they wanted you to work with her to make sure you get proper training before you were set out on your own.
Weeks passed and you stuck by Angela's side as she trained you. You didn't think there was much more you could learn but she proved you wrong by far. There were things she taught you that you had no idea existed. As you observed her techniques it was easy for you to understand how she was so good at what she did.
Months passed and you were ready to follow her into battle for the first time. It was a small mission but it was mainly for in battle training to see how you could handle the pressure. You were excited to show Angela the training you had endured while you were in the military. However, while you were working alongside her, your admiration had turned into something a little deeper.
The two of you were very good friends as you practically bonded over your shared interest in medicine and saving others but you felt something more than friendship for her. You couldn't help it, she was extremely smart, very beautiful, strong willed, funny etc. Her cute accent was a bonus. If all went well during this first mission, you were contemplating asking her out for a couple drinks. Just a night to unwind and relax. So while you sat excited in your seat, it was easy to hide as 'first mission jitters'. The truth was you were excited for later.
No you didn't know if she'd even say yes, but you were a very optimistic person and you were hoping that Angela admired that. Even if she did say no, you wouldn't let it crush you because you would just wait for another chance.
"(Y/N), we're heading out." Angela called. You looked up from the weapon and equipment you were issued and nodded.
"I'm right behind you." You replied, smiling as you followed behind her out of the med bay and eventually outside.
It was a short ride from the base and to the coordinates of the mission. "Stay by me." Angela said as she stood up from her shortly after you had landed. You only nodded in confirmation as you stood beside her, following her out of the drop ship as other soldiers followed. You were all told that this was going to be an easy in and out mission. Little did you know that you would repeat your mother's failure and barely escape with your life.
