The Void: Frozen Threat

Divided Paths

I trudge through the snow towards the town hall building which isn't far but with all the snow it takes forever and I begin to feel exhausted again. Alex and One are silent the whole way and I notice them not even talking in hushed voices because they were still thinking of the bandit Alex had shot. We had searched him and sure enough he had scouting plans for the Bandits which meant there might be more on the way and the last thing we needed was a group of Bandits unloading bullets at us.

"We need to leave and find Beta" the words come out of my mouth even though i'm not even looking at One and Alex. They both stay silent but I know they heard me so I don't repeat myself.

As we near the building the door opens and Maverick comes outside looking worried. I sprint towards him as I see him sitting against the door shaking.

"What is wrong now?" I look at him and he looks at me with wide eyes and I know what he is going to say.

"How did someone get infected?" One says it before me but I don't wait around for answers as I push Maverick out of the way and kick open door. At first there was nothing and it seemed normal until Burns came running down the stairs and just before he reached the bottom he tripped landing face first on the rug.

"Burns you alright?" I watch as he stands up and I think he is fine but then I notice the blood around his mouth and hands and I sigh.

"Damn you were a good man" I said the words before pulling out my hatchet and running forward but when I went to swing he grabbed my hatchet and threw me aside like a chew toy for a dog. I landed next to a desk and my hatchet slide across the room.

"Shit...." I slowly stood up just in time to push him back and I reached for my hatchet but he grabbed me and threw me back and lunged for me. I held him back as he snapped his teeth and blood dripped from his mouth. I held him with one hand and reached with my other hand grabbing a plaque from the desk and I hit him till he fell of me. I watched as he lay on the ground stunned and I raised the plaque bringing it down over and over till his head was completely caved in.

"Watch out!" One shouts and I turn around seeing the three others from our group but all of them look like they had been chewed on for quite some time because some parts of there body were covered in torn flesh and pieces of hanging skin.

"This should be fun...." I stand up slowly and look for my weapon seeing it is to close to them and I look around for anything else but there is nothing.

"Here!" Alex throws me his pistol and I catch it spinning around in one movement and shooting three shots, Two go down one to go.

The infected runs down the stairs and doesn't trip but launches off the bottom stairs ramming into me knocking the gun out of my hand. The infected is about to bite my arm when One pulls it off me and Alex stomps on it's head ending it quickly.

"Why couldn't you guys do that sooner?" I take deep breaths looking at them with questioning eyes.

"It was funny to watch and believe me there isn't many funny things left" One laughs a bit and Alex nods in agreement while chuckling a bit.

"So what now this place is ruined?" Maverick looks at us and kind have forgot he was there being so quiet.

"Grab your stuff were going to find Beta" everyone looks at me then each other with shocked eyes thinking I was crazy or something but I was saying the truth.

---Beta's Squad---

After I tell everyone the news everyone looks at me with silent stares.

"What?" I ask them and everyone seems to snap out of whatever had stopped them from talking because questions were thrown at me from everyone.

"Alpha is dead!" Mark and Daemon both look at me stunned.

"What about Gamma's group!" Rainy looks worried and I know why, because Gamma was her unborn baby's father meaning she needed him sooner rather than later.

The last of the group which was Luna who is always quiet looks rather angry as I finished my speech.

"Look Alpha is gone and I know it is tragic and it never should have happened but before he died he said for me to get everyone back together, including Gamma's group" I look at Rainy lastly and she is smiling a bit.

"This is all great and all but how will we find them exactly?" Daemon looks at me confused.

"We go to where they would go.....home" I look at them with a calm face but inside I wanna break down knowing that place would never be our home again.

---Gamma P.O.V---

As we near the place I slow down the car and pull over stepping out of the truck we had found. I start jogging till I get to the base of the mountain and look around seeing everything looking normal till I see a body laying in the bottom of the ditch. I notice it as Nick who I had seen go with Beta and this made me curious so I walked farther up the hill being followed by my group.

Just as we were nearing the top someone shot out of the bush and landed infront of us.

"Oh no...." I look at the person with defeat watching as Alpha stands up and looks at us with Bloodshot eyes and blood dripping from his mouth and his neck which has a huge bite wound.

Maverick pukes behind me while Alex turns away looking rather upset. One stands next to me ready to fight Alpha who is both stronger and taller than all of us. I raise my weapon and run at him but all I feel is a hard punch to the side of the face and then I fall to the ground with a thud. One charges at Alpha but Alpha grabs him holding him in the air with one hand choking him slowly.

Alex runs at Alpha and tackles him knocking One to the side where he lays un-moving even though he still breaths. Maverick swings his bat and connects with Alpha's face and then he swings again but this time Alpha grabs the end of the bat and throws it at Maverick hitting him in the head.

I look around seeing everyone on the ground either knocked out or crawling away to regroup. It was my time to shine I guess but I had no weapon only my fist seeming my knife had landed out of sight somewhere.

I stood up and raised my fist getting Alpha's attention and it worked, well it worked but way to well because he charged and knocked me over reaching down to scratch my face but I blocked him holding him back with my two hands. I looked into his eyes but only saw red and I felt a shiver pass through my body as he stared me straight in the eyes looking rather alive but I knew he was dead and he wouldn't be coming back.

I struggled and as I was about to give up I heard a shout then a shot rings out and Alpha gets off me and tumbles backward.

I look over and see Beta and her group standing where we had all stood only moment's ago but they all had there guns raised and pointed at me. I slowly put my hands up and looked at them with confusion.

"Duck idiot!" Beta shouted and I obeyed throwing myself to the ground.

Bullets flew pasted me hitting Alpha until he fell to the ground completely. I stood up and looked at Beta and she nodded so I took a deep breath and walked to them followed by everyone else from my group who looked just as exhausted as I felt.

"It's good to see you!" Beta hugs me with such force I almost fall over.

"Yeah it is....I would have been on the menu if it wasn't for you guys showing up" I laugh and so does Beta.

"Hey guys hate to tell you but we got company!" Alex sounds exhausted but he raises his gun at something and we all turn seeing what he sees. At first all I saw was bushes but then the bushes exploded with noise and at least a dozen of infected burst from it all looking like Alpha with red eyes and sharper nails.

"Not again...." I raise my weapon and wait for them to get closer.

This was about to sound and look like a war....but who would win?
