The Void: Frozen Threat

I watch as Grant lunges for Alpha who then grapples with him trying to shove him backwards. I pull out my knife and sprint forward knocking Grant to the ground and bringing the knife down into his skull multiple times till he stops moving completely.

"Beta....You came?" Alpha looks at me with a weak face and I nod.

"Yeah and you should be glad because looks like Grant might have killed you if I hadn't" I notice how pale and fragile he looks as he leans against the tree and I become sad for him.

"I will be dead soon anyway its only a matter of time before the sickness takes me to!" He starts laughing hysterically and they soon turn into sorrow filled whimpers as he slides to the ground covering his face.

"How many have we lost?" I look around seeing only a few people laying on the ground most looked ready to succumb to the sickness while only a few looked like they were getting better.

"We have lost everyone but us few and Delta's team" Alpha didn't look up and I gasped in shock and leaned against a tree almost falling over.

Nick crawls under the bush and he looks as shocked as I was when I first came in then he looked at Grant who was lying dead on the ground.

"This is all we have left!" Nick looks in surprise and he then looks at me for answers and I just nod sadly.

"Go both of you" Alpha looks at us with bloodshot eyes and I notice I might not see him healthy ever again.

"We can't leav-" I silence Nick and point towards the car and he must understand because he leaves without another word.

"So this is it? You want us to just leave all you guys in the worst of winter?" I start to tear up but force it back not letting myself cry in a moment like this.

"You and Nick need to go back with the rest of your group...then when the time is right meet with Gamma's group...and stay...alive" Alpha stops for a moment taking in a deep breath and I know it must be very hard to breath.

"Be the best leader and Alpha you can be" He smiles and I can't help but nod and I back away before he could say anymore.

I walk silently down the hill towards the car and I make it there thinking the worst is over but then I hear something that would have been something I just blew off before but now I was scared of it, one singular cough and I turn my head seeing Nick bent over a small ditch at the base of the hill.

"Oh Nick...." I watch as he turns towards me and shakes his head and puts up his hands.

"Please I'll be fine It's only a cough!" He slowly backs up into tree which makes him bend over in pain holding his side with one hand and putting his other in the air while looking at me.

I reach down and pull his hand away to reveal a bite mark on his side. I instantly raise my gun in the air and click the safety off.

"I'm sorry...." Is all I could mutter before aiming the gun at his head.

"No don-" before he finishes I pull the trigger sending him into the ditch with a bullet sized hole in his head.

I get in the car and lay my gun in the seat next to me and start to drive not wanting to look back at the place I had called home and the place I had believed to be the safest from the apocalypse. As I drive I start to cry but I keep driving speeding towards my group that still needs me.

---Gamma's group---

I wake up in a small room next to me is One and Alex, One is snoring lightly while Alex has is arm wrapped around him. I stand up slowly as to not wake them and then I look out the window to see the snowstorm has stopped but the whole town is covered in a thick sheet of snow and ice and the roads are buried with about 6 feet of snow. I sigh knowing we have to get back because we have no food and very little water left. I watch outside seeing nothing but then I hear a loud bang from downstairs and I turn towards the stairs in surprise knowing that whatever that was sounded like it was below us in the stairwell. I quickly locked the door and scrambled to wake One and Alex.

"Huh...What?" Alex looks confused and One stands up and grabs his gun and puts his shirt on quickly.

"I heard a loud noise from the stair well" I whisper the words and both of them aim there weapons at the door and I do the same.

The door knob starts to turn and then there is a knocking on the door very loudly. I glance at One and Alex because we knew only a human could do that.

I nodded to them and I ran opened the door and dived for cover making sure I wasn't in the crossfire.

"Get on the ground!" Alex yells and I look up seeing one man with his hands up in the air and a gun laying at his feet.

"Wait I'm a bandit like you guys I was caught in the storm to!" The man reveals his face and I notice he looks rather young and I feel bad for him knowing he must be all alone.

"Bandit!?" Alex yells and starts to unload bullets into the man and I watch as he flies down the staircase and when he hits the bottom we here a loud thud.'

"Alex you shot him!" I look at Alex with wide eyes and he gives me a moments long glance before looking away.

"He was a bandit he said it himself" Alex looked ashamed and One just looked just as stunned as I was.

I had almost forgotten that one threat we still had was other people even if there was snow falling from the sky and the winds were cold.
