Third person's POV
The two guards walked upfront with their horses as Cassandra followed after them in her horse and carriage. With her was Prince Piers.
"I hope the poor fellow didn't suffer." Piers said, trying to sound sincere.
Cassandra nodded but didn't actually reply. She looked at the woods and couldn't fight the urge to go all the way to the North. She just wanted to go home, she just wanted to be done with the South.
"Will you put borders up?"
Cassandra looked at Piers and shrugged. "I guess we should put some warnings up for the cliffs, too many people have died this way."
"But borders - "
"Borders won't keep people safe from cliffs," Cassandra said before looking outside to the woods again. "Those cliffs are the problem, not the borders."
Piers sighed. He frowned as he felt that Cassandra still hadn't changed her mind. He knew she'd change her mind the moment they'd arrive at the cliff.
When they arrived, he let her get out first.
Cassandra got out and noticed the two guards and several guards of the Northern Kingdom. "Why are you here?" She asked the men and women she knew so well.
They looked at her and she immediately felt her heart sank. She shook her head before pushing past all the guards to reach the cliff. There, she dropped on her knees.
She watched James's lifeless body without saying anything, without showing any kind of emotion, without doing anything. And the guards worried. Even Piers did.
"Cas," He walked closer to her and saw how broken she was. In the deepest of his soul, he felt very bad and very guilty, but his anger towards her overpowered. "What shall we do with him?"
Cassandra got up. She gulped. "Take him back home, give him a proper burial."
"Your Highness," A Nothern guard stepped forward. "Do you wish to join us back to the North?"
Cassandra looked down, at James, and shook her head. She then walked away, got back into her carriage and went back to the South.

When she arrived back home, she went straight to her room. On her way over, she past Lord Gregory who immediately knew something terrible had happened.
Cassandra entered her room and then locked her door. She walked to her bed and sat down on it before bursting out in tears.
She cried and cried. She went to lay down while holding on to a pillow, while wrapping the sheets around her... She just wanted to be held, she wanted to be comforted. But the person she wanted that from was gone. He had left her, and he promised her he'd never leave her.
James was gone. Her husband was gone. She looked at the ring on her finger, the wedding ring, the ring he had given her, his mother's ring. Cassandra took it off and put it in her nightstand. She couldn't bear to wear it, knowing that the person she's married to was gone.
He was gone. Her James. Her love. The father of her child... She felt her belly and cried more. James would never meet his child. They would never raise their child together. They would never have more children. She'll be alone.
