This was a logic game, and we could either be in Narnia or in a boring forest with nothing better in it than an endless path of rocks and millions of perfectly lined up trees. And yet I still wondered.

If only I had known it was an enchanted forest, I wouldn't have done what I did next...

Walking I never thought could be any more exhausting. Starvation slowly devoured my thoughts with every step I took, and the lack of sleep I thought was bad at the beginning of the games grew more and more to the point where the bags under my eyes gave up trying to grow. My eyes and ears were so alert to my surroundings, and as my feet hit the ground with every step I took, the sound of the leaves and sticks snapping filled my ears through the endless walk among the trees.

Thump. Something fell on the ground. I grabbed the knife from my pocket, and slowly turned around, my stomach begging for food. Anything. And there it was: an apple. Shiny and red, with its perfect shape and appearance, laying on the white, thick snow...waiting for me to grab it. And so I did. Walking over to it I bent down to admire its beauty. Food. Finally I  found food. Without any more thinking, I snatched it off the ground, and as soon as I did, an owl appeared on the branch of a tree nearby, watching me. A weird sound emerged from the apple, and before I knew it, the following letters were being carved onto its silky, red skin:
                                                                Jordyn M.
"What is this?" I asked myself, looking at the apple in my hands. I should blame this on my lack of sleep, but I couldn't: the apple seemed more lively, filled with a sudden burst of life. I was almost too distracted to notice the sudden change of atmosphere: snow-covered fields on my side of the path and grass green land on the other I had just been standing on. My feet were positioned one in each. I stepped fully on the snow and looked at the apple, hoping to figure out its magic by simply looking at it. My hunger--as expected-- took over eventually, forcing me to take a bite of the majestic fruit.

     All I know is I shouldn't have.

I sighed. "We have to get in there. I think we can fight whoever's inside... and even if we're not able to, it'll be the same as staying here, awaiting our certain deaths."

No one replied, but the silence the air held seemed to be an answer for everybody as I proceeded to walk towards the cabin through the deserted field of lonely, thick snow. Everyone followed wordlessly, until the space between the cabin and the group was small enough that only words were the escape from walking in right away. I sighed, then looked back at the faces I had seen one too many times, and nodded, indicating our death march would continue.

Let's get something straight: it's not like I was scared of a lonely little cabin. In fact, that wasn't the case at all. What I was scared of, though, was what we would find once we stepped into the abandoned wooden structure. The lights were on, and a little fireplace shone so bright it almost succeeded to illuminate my darkened heart. I took the deepest breath I could manage, and wasting no more time, knocked on the fragile wooden door.

"Wait! There's someone in there..." as if it weren't obvious. I rolled my eyes.
