** VAL'S POV **
The voice had disappeared into thin air, but my legs moved automatically towards the lost sound. My uneven breaths threatened to make me stop, but I clenched my jaw and resisted the urge. I had to find the voice before giving up any hope. So I ran, and I kept running. I had to admit-- I had no idea where I was heading, but I let my legs lead me as I closed my eyes, pretending to be inhaling fresh air, something I missed doing.
** PARKER'S POV **
"Nicole?" I asked, squinting, begging my eyes to make out something in the dark.
"No." was all I heard, but it was enough to send chills down my spine.
"W-who is it then?" I simply asked, my hands crunched up into fists by my sides. The possible enemy just chuckled. "Answer me." I said rather firmly. I sensed the seriousness in the air and decided to put it to some use to my advantage.
"You don't know me." the feminine voice simply replied, taken aback by my sudden charge of confidence.
"I don't recall asking you if I knew you." I said harshly, my patience running out and my teeth chattering once in a while from the cool temperature of the room. She laughed at my choice of words.
"A little demanding now aren't we?" as soon as the words escaped her mouth I had had enough.
"Your name." I said loudly, "Now."
"I'm Nonya Business." I rolled my eyes and my teeth were suddenly hurting from forcing them so close together. I tried to relax but the lady in the room was giving me a hard time and I just wanted to leave. I decided I would reply calmly, taking a deep breath.
"Oh." I said, "Weird... I thought your name was 'Imma Bitch' or something... but I guess we all make mistakes..." she laughed, not realizing I was being serious. Maybe she was alright, not that bad.But I still wanted an answer, I wanted to know how much I could trust her.
"Karimah." she said.
** VAL'S POV **
I stopped when my feet instructed me to, and I stood, breathing heavily, in the middle of nowhere. I had no idea where I had come from or where I was supposed to go now. In other words, I was lost. Maybe I was too stupid to believe that my instincts were actually leading me to the noise. They were most likely just running to nowhere, not minding the consequences. Now I was lost. I was lost. I was lost. I was lost, the words kept echoing in my head and I shivered in response, blaming myself for being such an idiot. I was wrong. It was just my head leading me to nowhere, the voice was in my head, it was an effect of my stupid jealousy.
My head was pounding and I kept blaming myself for getting into this childish situation. Just when my eyes were becoming heavy, and I was entering the world of dreams-- here nightmares-- I heard it. The voice. I was more than certain that that was it. I knew it. It wasn't my head; it couldn't be. It was too real to be a simple production of my imagination. I didn't waste any time. I got up in lighting speed, my ears alert. I started running towards the sound and was more than surprised when I realized I had found it. I pressed my back against the wall, hoping no one could hear me. The feminine voice was just around the corner of this wall, literally. I let a large amount of oxygen enter my lungs before exhaling slowly, waiting for the voice to return.
"Is he awake yet?" I heard. It wasn't exactly the voice I had been longing to hear and kill, the voice that sent bits of fear and dread down my spine, but it was enough to satisfy my needs of knowledge and affirmation that I was on the right track. We had been informed little information about each sector; what they were known for. I knew one of them was known for their loyalty for each other and for adhering to one another during rough times and good times. Another one was known for their efficiency in combat with knives and any sharp objects. Another one was known to be the smart group; they could defeat anyone with their plans, and they could track down whoever they wanted to; their maneuvers impressive. It was honestly creepy. My thoughts were quickly interrupted by the voice that had been threatening to kill me for so long. I didn't know what it was about it, I just knew I didn't like it. At all.
"Yes." She said, my body tensing at the sound of it so close up, " His name is Cameron... or so I heard from him..." she finished and I thought I had died for a second. She had Cameron. The voice I hated so much had Cameron. And then I remembered why I hated the voice so much. But I needed proof before jumping to stupid conclusions. Could it be the brunette I had seen leaning down to touch his face before? "Let me talk to him alone... I can get information out of him faster this way... he's awake--yes-- but he's still dizzy and I doubt he can think straight." I quickly grabbed a knife from my belt and walked slowly towards the door frame-- which had of course no door-- before tightening my grip on the metal weapon. My breaths became heavier by the second, and I felt something sharp dig into my right arm. It took literally everything in my not to scream as I bit my lower lip with an awful amount of force instead, turning around to face the cause of the sting.
I was taken aback when I saw what had hurt me and almost fainted, biting harder on my lower lip, my facial expressions full of pure horror as my eyes widened to take in the creatures before me. Little bugs were all over the place, probably invisible if it wasn't for the fact that they were so many. My heart raced and my arm stopped stinging, now instead feeling awfully numb. I felt the sour taste of blood flow into my mouth. I panicked. It didn't take long before I realized the blood had come from my lip, the one I had been biting too hard on. I attempted to lick it away but it only weakened my senses and I started to feel dizzy as I let the blood freely run down my lip and chin, the pain too immense to handle. I felt weak. It was only a little cut... so why did my body hurt so much? A second passed before I realized the little bugs were advancing on me, and I had gotten stung multiple times, the fact also the indisputable reason why I felt suffocated and numb. I tried to take a deep breath, but my lungs seemed to be filled with heavy cement, preventing the oxygen from getting in. This was it. I was dead. My head pounded and I decided there was nowhere to go besides towards Cameron and the other voice that had abducted him. I turned around and my eyes went wide as I came to a sudden stop, taking in the scenario before me. Angry tears made their way down my cheeks as I tried to control the incalculable pain that had consumed me within seconds. My stealthy actions stopped as I let out an inhuman cry that apparently no one else heard as I pressed my hands to my face to block the shocking view.
I guess my heart was shattered at this point. My feelings were getting the best of me as tears blurred my vision. I could only make out Cameron's brown eyes on me, wide with horror as I turned around and ran away from reality, my feet numb but efficient, my whole body stinging as I entered the cloud of bugs, hoping they would get my heart, and make me completely numb. The scene was still sinking in, every second hurting more and more.
He was kissing her.
She was kissing him.
They were kissing.
I didn't stop moving, not feeling physical pain since everything was numb. I know this should've been good, since I couldn't feel the certain ache in my legs from running so much; but it was actually horrible, only feeling the pain in my heart, no other physical torture to cover up the titanic agony inside of me as my heart became weaker than it already was with every second, something I doubted could be possible. I tried to catch all the little pieces of it that fell carelessly to the frigid ground, but no good came from it thus I failed every time. I ran until the bugs were nowhere to be seen, my hands along with every other muscle in me completely numb.
I don't know how much time went by before my heart gave up completely, sending me straight to the metal ground, unable to move. My short breaths were torturing me, barely keeping me alive. I let the last tear escape as I fought away memories that threatened to take over me once again. I felt my eyes get heavy and I caught glimpse of cold hazel eyes before everything blacked out and I was carried into the world of dreams and fantasies.
