Taehyung blinked. Once. Twice. He slowly allowed his eyes to trail up and down the figure, analysing its appearance and trying to work out if he knew them.
It was a short female with skin so pale that it appeared otherworldly. If Taehyung had seen such a skin colour on anyone else, he would have thought that the person was on the verge of death or that their body had been drained of blood to the last drop. This female, however, somehow appeared to be very healthy even with such pale skin, and Taehyung found that the skin tone suited her.
Her bob of curly white hair framed her petite face and made her skin look rather peachy in comparison. Although Taehyung knew that it was impossible, her hair seemed to glow, radiating with some sort of energy.
Her eyes were an unusual dark blue colour, shimmering and gazing up at him warmly. Taehyung couldn't describe it, but there was something in her eyes that made him feel safe and at ease – something which he hadn't been able to feel in a long while.
If Taehyung had to describe the girl in one word, it would be ethereal.
Now, he was often called by this world due to his looks, but at the end of the day, he was an ordinary human being who just happened to be a bit more handsome than the average person. This girl, however, had not only the looks of a being from a faraway world, but also the aura of one. She practically radiated with light as she smiled endearingly up at him and the way that she held herself as she stood barefoot in the corridor of his villa just screamed that she was not of this world.
Her clothes, too. They weren't like anything Taehyung had seen before. It was a dress that ended midway down her thigh, the soft material hugging her curves and showing off her figure. The sleeves of the dress were long, but from her shoulder to her wrist there was a cut in both of them, showing off her thin and pale arms. On her feet was a pair of metallic boots that reflected the sunlight and painted rainbows upon the walls of the corridor in which they stood.
"Tae?" She called out to him by a name that he hadn't been called in too long, her voice sounding soft and silken.
And just like that, Taehyung's trance was broken. His eyebrows furrowed and he took a step away from her. "Who are you?" He asked coldly, finally finding his voice.
The girl smiled at him. "I am a star. Well, more specifically, your star. My name is Vera, and I have fallen to Earth from the northern constellation of Lyra."
"What?" Taehyung asked, his eyebrows furrowing further as he failed to understand what he was saying. He felt completely lost. "What star? What do you mean? What constellation? And who's Lyra? I don't know a Lyra."
Vera giggled, the little noises she made stirring something inside Taehyung and making his stomach flip. "Oh Tae," She sighed as she looked up at him, shaking her head slightly. "You are a very funny human."
"Human?" Taehyung echoed, bewildered by the girl's choice of wording. "You're talking about me like I'm not the same as you."
"That is because you are not," Vera answered simply. "You," She pointed to Taehyung, "Are human, and I," She pointed to herself, "Am not."
"But that's impossi—" Taehyung began, but was cut off by a gasp from the petite girl which startled him into silence.
Brushing past him, Vera bounded over to a desk on which stood various photographs, picking one of them up and observing it closely, her eyes shining as she admired it. Turning the photo around, she pointed with one of her thin and pale fingers at the young boy in the photo and asked, "Is this you when you were little? How adorable!"
Taehyung strode over to her and snatched the photo out of her hands, possibly a little too roughly since she let out a noise of surprise and stumbled forwards a little. "Don't touch my things," He said sharply, placing the photo back where it had been standing. "Also, I did not invite you into my house. Who gave you the right to just barge in as you wish?"
Vera tilted her head to the side, looking up innocently at the man in front of her. "It is not as I wish," She said, "It is as you wish. Your wish brought me here, not my own."
"Look," Taehyung said, his patience already running low, "I don't know who you are, what you are, why you're here—and to be quite honest I don't think I care anymore. Just get out. Leave. Go back to wherever it is you've come from."
"What?" Vera's smile began to fade as his words registered in her head. Her voice dropped to almost a whisper as she echoed, "Go back?"
Taehyung pointed to the front door that was still open from where he hadn't shut it before due to being too shocked to move. "Leave," He repeated, his voice firm and unwavering. "Go back."
"I ... " Vera glanced between Taehyung and the open door, her face falling. "I can't," She said quietly, lightly shaking her head. "I can't go back. Not unless I fulfil your wish. Until I've fulfilled it, I can't leave Earth. I can't go back, Tae—"
"Stop calling me Tae!" Taehyung yelled, something inside him snapping. He wasn't used to being called in such an affectionate way, especially by a complete stranger, and the way that the nickname rolled off of the girl's tongue made him feel all strange and fuzzy inside. It was a strange feeling, and Taehyung wasn't liking it.
Vera flinched and Taehyung immediately felt guilty for raising his voice at her, but he straightened himself out and pushed the feeling away. He was feeling so strange today, experiencing so many emotions that he hadn't felt in a long time, and it scared him. He wanted time alone, to think everything through, to try and understand why, after so long of feeling nothing but numbness and pain, he was beginning to feel other emotions.
He concluded to himself that he was probably coming down with something. Or it was the hangover that was making him more emotional than usual. It definitely wasn't the girl standing in front of him. That was impossible, and definitely not an option.
Taehyung's eyes searched Vera's, his gaze piercing through her. She looked innocent, just like a naïve child, and yet Taehyung couldn't bring himself to believe her. He convinced himself that she was either lying or a crazy fan trying to approach him in a creative way to catch his attention, and with that mind-set he pushed his guilty feeling away and once again pointed to the front door. "Get out," He growled, tearing his gaze away from her.
"I cannot leave you," Vera protested, moving around as she attempted to make eye contact with him again while Taehyung just kept looking away from her and refusing to face her. "Please—," She pleaded, her voice sounding desperate, "Please listen to me! I really cannot leave you. If I leave—if I go too far away now, you are going to hurt, and so am I. We are bonded now. The seal—"
"Shut up!" Taehyung snarled, having had enough of her rambling.
He grabbed her roughly by the arm and dragged her towards the front door, shoving her outside and watching her stumble a little as she tried to regain her balance. She turned around to look at him again and opened her mouth to speak, but Taehyung held up a hand to silence her.
"I don't know what you're thinking—coming to my house and spouting nonsense about stars and whatever," He said. "I'll admit, it's very creative of you and I'll give you credit for the interesting story you've come up with, but you should know that I'm not easily fooled."
"No, please," Vera pleaded again, shuffling towards him again, "I am not lying, and I am not making anything up. I am telling you the truth! You called me, and I fell for you. I really am a star—please believe me!"
"Get lost," Taehyung replied, his voice dropping in volume but remaining sharp and cold. "I have no time for lying attention seekers like you. If you don't leave soon, I'm going to call the police and have you taken away forcefully. Goodbye, Miss."
Vera began to protest once again, but Taehyung slammed the door shut and blocked her voice out. He took in a deep breath and then exhaled, attempting to calm himself down. He walked away from the front door and returned to his place on the couch, feeling his headache return. With a loud huff, he collapsed onto the couch and closed his eyes, suddenly feeling extremely tired and deciding that it was a good time for a power nap.
