"You are sunlight through a window, which I stand in, warmed. My darling." -The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton

Niall's POV

We do not do much during the whole day, just made sweet love in the morning, watched movies, ate junk and local takeaways and went for a small walk in the evening before it was time for us to leave from our little getaway.

We pack our bags and Ana helps me load them into the trunk. It is after eight in the evening when we leave. We talk about everything and anything as I drive, the radio playing with low volume in the background. We talk about the songs playing on the radio and what do we think about it. I realized that we, indeed, have similar music taste.

It was after eleven when I realised that Ana is half asleep beside me, just nodding to whatever I say. I remove my hand from the steering wheel and bring it to her cheek, caressing it. She leans into my touch, closes her eyes and soon her breath calms down. I move her head to lay it comfortably against the headrest.

We reach home at one in the morning and I gently shake Ana awake. I help her out of the car since she looked half asleep. I decided to unload the truck tomorrow because I was very tired before walking inside the house. Ana walks straight to my room and I follow suit. She strips down to her panties before walking to my closet and picking out my new T-shirt and throwing it over her head. She lazily walks to the bed, as I witness her every move, and plops on the bed with a heavy thud. I let out a small chuckle at that before stripping down to my boxers and getting on the bed beside Ana and pulling the duvet over our bodies. I spoon her from behind and pull her back against my chest before turning the lights off and drifting off.

The next few days passed by in a rush with me and Ana being busy with our works and barely getting any time together except for the nights so I was looking forward to the dinner my mom invited us to on a Friday.

I inform Ana about the plan and asked her to be ready by six in the evening as I exit my office and drive to my house to change and freshen up. After changing into a blue faded jeans and a white full sleeved T-shirt, I drive to Ana's to pick her up.

***

Ana fidgets in the car seat even after I told her that she looks perfect as ever, in a navy blue knee length dress with short sleeves, and everything is going to be alright but she doesn't seem satisfied with my answers, checking herself in the rearview mirror and adjusting her perfect hair every minute.

We've been sitting in my dad's garage for more than five minutes but Ana refuses to leave the car. "It's not like you're meeting them for the first time, Ana," I reason. "And I know they already like you."

"How do you know that, Niall? And even if they did, what if I do something and they would hate me. What if spill the drink on your mom's carpet? What if your sisters don't like me? What if your father thinks that I am-"

I lean over the console and shut her up by placing my lips on hers. I cup her cheeks and move my lips against hers as I feel her relax into my kiss. I gently bite on her lower lip before swiping my tongue over that spot. I shorty pull away from her, my lips lingering over hers, before opening my eyes to look into her beautiful, brown ones. "Everything is going to be alright, don't worry, Ana." She hesitantly nods. "And if you spill something on my mom's carpet, we can blame the gravity." I shrug and she cracks a small smile. "I love you and I know they will, too, baby."

"Okay. Let's go." She takes a deep breath and backs away as I do the same. We get out of the car and I take Ana's hand in mine as she clutches the wine bottle, that she insisted on bringing along, with her other hand.
