"You cannot choose who you love, but you can choose how you love."
Ana's POV
I press the doorbell since I forgot to take my keys and patiently wait with Niall by my side, his hand resting on the small of my back. We've returned from our small walk around the neighbourhood and we had a lot of fun. I am so happy to have gotten time to talk to Niall about random things like we usually did and spend time with him doing nothing. It's times like this that makes me realize how simple and happy our lives can be.
Nate rushes out as soon as he opens the door and hugs Niall's legs. "Niall!" He shrieks and I raise my eyebrows at his reaction, a small smile playing on my lips, looking at them as they greet each other.
Niall bends down and hugs Nate. "Hello, Nate," He says with the same excitement and I let out an awe. "How have you been, little guy?" He asks and moves his hand to tousle his hair. Nate blushes a little before smiling brightly at him.
"I'm so good," He says and chuckles before scrunching up his face. "Ana lied to me. She said you were busy and could not come here." He makes an angry face towards me but fails and ends up looking cute. Niall joins him and makes a similar face at me, scrunching his nose like a baby.
"I wanted to surprise you, Nate." I push my lower lip out in a pout, covering up my lie that I told him just yesterday. "I also got you muffins from Matt and Donna's." I lift the parcel that we got for him. "Forgive me?"
"Yay!" He squeals and bounces over to me before grabbing the bag of muffins out of my hands. "You're forgiven," He says, hugs my waist for a split of a second before jumping back to Niall. "Let's go inside, Niall, I want to tell you so many things," He says before dragging Niall into the house, leaving me outside.
I didn't know that Nate would be so happy to see Niall but then again, I didn't know that they talked to each other on the phone. I shrug, feeling a little confused but happy nonetheless before walking inside the house and closing the door behind me.
I join them in the kitchen and see my mom working on breakfast while Nate and my dad are sitting at the table, Nate engrossed in the phone, probably playing on it. Niall is standing beside my mom as they chat and I smile. Niall has been putting a lot of effort to get along with my family, something that Tyler never even tried to do, and I'm so happy about it. He's really trying to show my parents who he is and I hope they see how truly amazing he is.
I take my seat at the dining table with my dad and Nate and affectionately stare at the man I am in love with as he helps my mom with cooking.
"He's a good man," My dad suddenly says and I turn to look at him, a little surprised that he brought it up. A smile tugs at my lips at his words. I knew that my dad did like Niall but hearing it from him makes it real.
"Yeah, dad." I nod, agreeing with him.
"Don't tell him I said it," He says promptly and a chuckle leaves my mouth. "I don't want him to think that I think he's alright just yet," He says and I shake my head at him, a fond smile on my lips.
"Did you just agree you like him?" I ask and he glares at me, choosing to stay silent for that particular question but I know that it's a yes. "Okay, I won't tell him," I mumble since I knew I wasn't going to get a reply.
"Still no sneaking around at night," He pointedly warns and a blush reaches my cheeks, thinking about how we didn't listen to his order last night and spent the night together. I hated lying to him about it but I don't regret it because I was with Niall and I was content for the first time in the past couple of weeks.
