Rachel Smith and Diana became close despite the differences between them. As the weeks went by Diana became a frequent visitor of Rachel's house and vice versa. They had tea together almost every day, together with other women. There was not much to do but to talk and Diana began to engage on that type of life though she found it boring and she missed England more and more. That afternoon, walking down the street alone for another encounter with her friend, she remembered James again and how she didn't receive news from him until then. She looked at her daughter and the baby smiled at her, yanking a smile from her instantly but then she gasped. She couldn't but think that he had forgotten her. Then, in another rampant she remembered how long it had taken her to get there, so she knew the letter would take the same time or maybe even more. So, she had to give the time for her letter to arrive and the same for his letter to arrive. If nothing happened it would take at least 8 weeks and so, James was still on time. Megan giggled and Diana looked at her again.
"Are you happy sweetheart?" She baby talked. Megan shook her arms and sniffed smiling at her mother. Her blue eyes shone, and her blond hair glittered under the sun. "You are a happy baby aren't you?" She stopped to kiss her baby with strength and the baby squealed with joy. She knew it was her hair that was tickling her. "Yes, you are. Mama loves you." Megan listened to her attentively. "And your father should write..." She whispered in the end. She was six-month-old already, growing up and Diana was sure that was the biggest role in her life, to see her baby grow up and be there for her. It scared her not to be sure about what Megan was. Was she human? So far it looked like it but she would have to be strong to deal with whatever the consequences were. Not she or James knew anything about mixed babies. Until Megan, he thought he wasn't capable of breeding.
"She's happy." Diana heard Rachel's voice and she realized she had reached the gate of her house.
"Yes. I came here talking to her." Diana said. "Soon she's going to sleep but she likes to play a little a bit and she demands a lot of attention from me and from Jack too when he gets home." Rachel watched Diana so excited talking about her life. She closed the gate. "Where are the rest of the women?" Diana asked as she noticed they were alone.
"I wanted us to have tea alone today, if you don't mind." Rachel told her. Diana looked at her for a few seconds and then shook her head.
"No. Of course I don't mind." She finally said.
"I want to talk to you and I don't want to be heard by anyone else." Rachel explained.
"Is everything alright?"
"Yes." Rachel said. "Lizzie!" She yelled then.
"Yes my lady." Lizzie appeared running.
"Take the kids to the park for a walk. I want to be alone with Mrs. Byron." Rachel ordered.
Diana smiled at all Rachel's four children. All boys, blond with almond eyes like her. Rachel was not a pretty woman but she was very elegant. It bothered Diana though how she barely have seen her smile and it also bothered her that Rachel was not that older and already had the burden of four infants. Diana and Jack were careful not to have a child right away. Diana, for sure didn't want to have another child so soon and sometimes she even questioned herself if she wanted to have another child at all. She wondered if Rachel did the same, avoiding having children. Probably not, that was not a Christian thing.
"Would you like to have tea outside?" Rachel then asked her.
"Yes, it's such a lovely day." Rachel went inside, probably to command the servants and Diana sat on iron chair under a tree. Megan was getting tired and beginning to fall asleep in her arms. She pulled the baby's hair back and blew her forehead. Megan was sweating.
