Reminiscence

Chapter 26

Avril's Pov- It was Thanksgiving again and while mom was cooking and Dad was greeting everyone at the door the three of us were upstairs laughing and playing board games. "Liam!, You have a visitor." Dad says. Liam looks to us before standing up. He walks downstairs. We hear mom and Dads's excitement. Within 10 minutes I hear liam talking with someone else. Whoever it was she was a female. When liam finally showed back up he knocked on the door lightly. He stopped in his doorway with a hand behind his back holding onto another hand wearing a burgundy sweater. Liam walked in all the way and there beside him was a girl with light red hair and brown eyes. She let go of liam's hand and waved. "Avril, Mallory, this is my girlfriend Roseallie, Roseallie, these are my sisters Mallory and Avril." She leans down and shakes our hands. "Nice to meet you guys I have heard so much about you all." She says.

"Nice to meet you too." Mallory says. "Mallory!" I hear mom call. Mallory stands up and brushes the imaginary dust off her pants. She left the room and I stood up and followed after liam and Roseallie left.

As I rounded down the stairs I see Mallory hugging a guy about her age at the door and hand her a boquet of poinsettias.

"Thank You Matthew." Mallory says. As step down on the last step I see Mallory introducing Liam and Roseallie and then me. "This is my big sister Avril." She  says. I walk over and shake hands with Matthew. "Nice to meet you Matthew." I say. "The pleasure for you too Avril." Matthew says. I grin and walk off.

Dinner was very good mom's thanksgiving was always good when it came down to it. I never thought less of it. I watched as all generations gathered around the table eating and all.

After was fun too when we were all gathered around a monopoly board, but what really bothered me was how everyone was pretty much snuggled into a loved one and here I was at the end of the game board all by my lonesome self.

After a few games I get up and walk over to the window while everyone else was laughing and having a good time.  I watch the snow fall outside and feel a hand touch my shoulder. I look over to see my mom she kisses my cheek lightly and tucks some of my hair behind my ear. "Happy Thanksgiving Avril!" "Happy Thanksgiving mom." I say hugging her. I kiss her cheek and continue my looking out the window.

"What's wrong honey?" I look back out the window. "It's been a good day and night mom don't get me wrong your food is amazing and the whole family being here is amazing, but I am just missing someone that's all." I say continuing my wandering gaze out the window.

  "You know there was a time that I didn't see your father and I was missing even in the times I didn't want to admit it. My key advice is this. Absence makes the heart grow fonder Avril. Which means the longer of the timespan you miss this said loved one's absence your love for them will be stronger than ever as if you just met them." She says.

My eyes begin to water and I wipe my cheeks. "Wow, thanks mom." I embrace her tightly. "Anytime Avril."
