"Come on Harry! Wake up!"
I was being shaken awake. I glanced up, immediately seeing a pair of silver eyes. Draco.
"What time is it?" I asked, I rubbed my eyes tiredly as I sat up. "It's eight—" Draco began, "Quidditch trials are today!" Said Draco excitedly. He began to bounce around the dorm, squealing like a six year old. I smiled as I watched. I shook my head, a smile still plastered onto my face. "Great! I'll be down in a sec." I said, pushing my covers off me. Draco exited the room, a happy bounce in his stride. I changed into clean robes and headed downstairs. I spotted Draco waiting at the foot of the staircase, watching me. I jumped the last of the steps and landed in front of Draco. "Lets go!" I said, laughing. I grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the portrait hole. I heard Draco laughing as we exited the common room. I smiled like an idiot. Hoping that no one had seen my smile, Draco and I entered the Great Hall. I immediately let go of his hand as we headed towards the Slytherin table. "I'll be back."
I made a detour towards the Gryffindor table. I searched it for a girl with bushy brown hair and a freckly guy with flaming red hair.
"Hey Harry!"
I spun around. Hermione was waving at me from a seat at the Gryffindor table. I waved back as I started to head over. "Hey mate." Said Ron, he lifted buttered toast into his mouth. "Quidditch tryouts are today. I'm super excited!" Said Ron excitedly. He looked as excited as Draco had been. Hermione smiled, "yes. I've been thinking about trying out as well."
Ron and I stared at Hermione in surprise. "You? Quidditch?" Ron asked, gaping. Hermione laughed, "yes!" Ron shook his head, "you have never shown the slightest bit of interest whenever me and Harry talk about Quidditch."
Hermione shrugged, "I want to try something new."
"Yeah, thats cool."
"Harry, come here." Said Hermione, she stood up and grabbed my arm. She pulled me away from everyone. "What is it?" I asked curiously. I wonder why she couldn't have asked me in front of Ron. "Meet me at the lake tomorrow evening after classes. I'd like to talk about something.." Said Hermione.
"With Ron?"
"No."
"Well, okay."
"Great!"
Hermione and I headed back to the Gryffindor table. Ron was watching us suspiciously.
"Alright. Well, I'll see you guys later!" I said.
The pair of Gryffindors nodded. I left and headed back to the Slytherin table. Once I got back to the Slytherin table, I saw Pansy watching me as I sat beside Draco. She raised a perfect eyebrow at me, and I felt myself turn a shade of red. I focused my gaze instead on the food. I knew she was smirking.
It was time for tryouts.
Me, Draco, and the rest of the other interested Slytherins lined up near the stands. I could see the Slytherin Quidditch team huddled together near the middle of the field. Once they saw us, they began to walk towards us.
"Welcome Slytherins! We're currently looking for a new seeker, and two new chasers."
Draco and I grinned at each other. The Slytherin captain (Marcus Flint) did rounds with all of us. Once it was Draco's turn, I couldn't keep my eyes off him. Draco is an amazing flier! He looks like thats where he belongs, he looks very graceful. After a couple rounds of him trying out for chaser, he landed on solid ground again. He grinned at me and shot me a thumbs up.
"Harry Potter!"
People were whispering as I passed. I tried determinedly not to look at them. Flint merely nodded. "I want to be seeker." I said. Flint nodded once more. "Alright. You know the rules I'm sure?"
I nodded. I felt nervous but very excited. What if I messed up?
Flint released the Snitch. I saw it for a second before it disappeared. I grinned and hopped onto the old school broom. I flew into the air, enjoying the wind crashing against my face coolly. I searched the field from above. After what was about five minutes, I caught sight of the Snitch. I dived, did loops, and even had to swerve very sharply to avoid hitting the hoops. Finally, I caught the Snitch. The Snitch was struggling to fly away. I heard Draco's cheers. I smiled and headed over to Flint, whom looked very impressed. "You did really good Potter." Said Flint, I shook his hand and headed back to the stands with Draco.
Suddenly, after many more tryouts, Flint blew his whistle. He got onto his broom and faced the front of the field, towards us. "We have decided who are the new members to the Slytherin Quidditch team!" Flint roared. The Slytherins were silent with bated breath.
"One of our new chasers are.. Pansy Parkinson!"
Pansy looked as if she had just lighted up. She started jumping and pumping the air.
"Our second new chaser is.. Draco Malfoy!"
I cheered loudly. Draco smiled happily.
"Our new seeker is.."
Everyone held their breath.
"Harry Potter!"
I felt so happy. I could hear Draco cheering loudly, and Pansy yelling "congratulations Harry!"
Later that night, I was in bed, reading a book about famous Quidditch players. Draco and everybody else had already gone to sleep. I heard a tap on the window. I looked up to see a barn owl outside our window. I got up and quietly headed over. I eased open the window and took the letter from the owl, and it took off. I lay back down in bed and opened the letter,
Dear Harry,
Could have just waited 'till tomorrow. But I'm way too happy! Hermione and I made it into the Quidditch team. I'm keeper, and Hermione is a chaser. Hope you made it too! G'night.
Ron
I fell asleep that night, knowing that it had been a wonderful day full of excitement for both me and all my closest friends.
