Y/N walked around the streets of the town, looking at all the different shops and items in the windows. They sighed in frustration but renewed with hope when they came across an oriental-looking shop. Maybe this had what they were looking for?

Less than ten minutes later, Y/N walked out of the store with a huff. No luck.

What were they searching for, you may ask? Well, a gift for their boyfriend, China, of course! They had been dating for three years, and this would be the first Christmas they spend together. Despite dating for so long, though, Y/N couldn't seem to find anything suitable for him. This was a bit of a milestone in their relationship - they wanted it to be special.

They continued walking, and the end of the downtown area was in sight. Was it possible they would leave completely empty-handed, wasting four hours of their time?

Another ray of hope came when they saw a shop dedicated to selling cooking-related items. Could this be it?

Y/N walked in, the door ringing a little bell upon their entry. They looked around and decided to start in the cookbook section. China had lots of recipes he had mastered, he didn't need a cookbook, they were kind of just looking for themself.

However, Y/N shook her head and turned away from the cookbooks to towards the cooking tools section. Pots, pans, weird new inventions, spoons, all that kind of stuff...

None of it was good enough. China didn't need more pans or anything, and he wasn't really impressed with stupid, 50/50 chance at working indie inventions.

Y/N sighed yet again in desperation as they walked through the aisle with oven mitts and stuff. This shop was yet another disappointment, it seemed. Oh well.

The lady working at the cash register simply flicked her eyes up from her magazine when Y/N left, not bothering to ask them if they found what they needed. Customer service at its finest...

Y/N tried to brighten their mood by eating a gingerbread cookie from the local bakery next to the cooking shop, but only felt worse. What if they never found a good gift for their boyfriend?

Getting up, Y/N wandered into the last shop. It was dedicated to weird, tiny little knickknacks and things. Very cute.

As they walked through the store, they heard the unmistakable voice of the very person they were looking for a gift for.

"Thank you! I very much appreciated your help!"

China.

Y/N hid behind a tall stand with knitted scarves on it, but with their luck, China went right up to it as he was leaving.

He furrowed his eyebrows when hey saw your hair sticking out from behind, "Um, why are-"

He didn't finish his sentence as he realized who you were,

"Y/N!"

They peeked out from behind the stand, smiling sheepishly and pretending to have been looking at a vinyl record in that little area, "Err- hello Yao!"

"I didn't know you were coming here, otherwise I would have gone Christmas shopping somewhere else.." he trailed off.

"Oh, Christmas shopping you say?" Y/N said with a smirk, "How's it been going?"

"Great! I've found gifts for nearly everyone!"

Y/N tried to hide their disbelief that he had so easily found good gifts for them and his whole family, "It's gone well for me too."

Y/N got in their car and rested their head against the window.

'I must be the shittiest gift-getter ever.'
