Y/N loved Switzerland's serious attitude about everything. They loved his protective nature, and his 'money is money' attitude.
One of the few things they didn't like was his lack of Christmas cheer.
They didn't know this about him until this Christmas - their first Christmas as a couple. He wasn't interested in doing any activities, and it disappointed Y/N, because they felt strongly about Christmas. there was only a little over a week left until Christmas, and Y/N was beginning to think they would never convince Switzerland to get some Christmas spirit.
"Do you want to... listen to some caroling?"
"No."
"Read some Christmas tales?"
"No."
"Watch some holiday movies?"
"No."
"Bake some cookies?"
"..."
Y/N perked up, thinking they may have gotten him to agree to something.
"Tempting, but no."
Y/N sighed and plopped on to the couch. Switzerland continued fiddling with his phone before putting it down and standing up.
"I'm going to go burn some leaves. Tell me if you need anything," he said, putting on his coat and walking outside.
Y/N hugged their knees to their chest and rested their head on them, bundling up in a blanket.
They loved his serious attitude, as said before, but sometimes... it was discouraging.
Y/N didn't realize it, but they fell asleep. When they woke up, it was two hours later and dark outside. They quickly thought of Switzerland when they smelled the smoke from the leaves.
They opened the front door and looked through the screen to see him sitting on a lawn chair, watching the fire with his head in his hand. His green coat, the dark sky, the bright flames, and the pure white snow were all very contrasting.
Y/N decided to put on their coat and join him, walking outside and crunching on the snow. Switzerland heard their footsteps immediately, turning around with a blank expression. He didn't cheer up and merely said, "Hello."
"Hi." Y/N said, crouching in the snow, letting their arms rest on their knees loosely.
"Something wrong?" he asked.
"Is it that obvious?" Y/N replied.
Switzerland rose an eyebrow.
Y/N sighed, "It's not a big deal."
"Is it about Christmas?" he said, ignoring their statement.
"..."
He looked at them with an 'are you gonna answer me' expression, and Y/N caved.
"Yeah."
"Does it really matter that much to you?"
"Well..." Y/N said, "Christmas has always been a really important part of my life... and I have really enjoyed this past year with you... so I was really looking forward to spending Christmas with you."
They looked at each other in silence, and, after a bit of consideration, Switzerland said, "Sorry. I just don't really understand Christmas."
"Understand?"
"Yeah. I mean, it's just a month dedicated to buying stuff." he explained.
"Well, in the marketing sense, I suppose," Y/N answered, "but it's so much more - it's a time for giving to strangers, laughing with loved ones, smiling and dancing to music, eating delicious food... it's magical."
Switzerland looked back at the fire.
"Christmas is for spending time with people you care about," Y/N said, "and I care about you a lot, Vash."
He thinned his lips in thought, and turned his gaze back to Y/N.
"I care about you too."
