The walls of blackness were the only things that I could see. No light. Just darkness. And...it was cold. I was cold. I wanted to escape from the scary atmosphere. I had to!
I scanned from black wall to black wall in search of a way out. A door or window. And on the other side would be bright light. The blinding and beautiful light would beckon me to follow it. To come join.
And what would I be joining? Freedom. Free from the prison of darkness. Free from the chains that were holding me in my place. But no more. No more!
Despite being positive that I would locate such light, my escape never came. Well, it did. Just not in the way that I expected.
"Sam. Sam, wake up."
"King of kings, please wake up our dear friend. I beg you!"
"Sam, do you hear me? You need to be awake. Your mom and dad miss you."
Those voices. I knew those voices!
Suddenly, white light from above shined on me and cast away all the darkness. I was the only thing that remained. Then I woke up.
I was first greeted with bright light. It was coming from the lamp that was hanging on the ceiling and probably the same light from my dream.
I could feel my arms and shielded my eyes with one of them. That was when I realized that I was not alone in the room - and where I was.
Joan and Lorraine were on either side of my bed and sitting in chairs. They were eager when I had awakened.
"Mr. Wolf! Mrs. Wolf!" Joan called to them. "She is awake. Sam is awake."
Mom and Dad were also here, and so were Lorraine's and Joan's parents. They were across from me.
"Thank the Lord, for He has blessed us," Lorraine's mom, Mrs. King, said.
Speaking of my room, I was not at home. I was at a hospital. In a hospital room and hospital bed. I was in a white gown and connected to a couple of machines.
I groaned and tried sitting up, but Mom gently pushed me back down.
"Do not even try, young lady," Dad told me. "You were seriously injured, and the doctor made us promise that you will get plenty of rest."
"What...what happened?" I was extremely weak.
"You blacked out," Lorraine explained. "According to Darius, you blacked out right after Silver attacked you."
It did not make sense to me at first. Silver? My sister? Attacked me? How? And why?
I uttered a gasp and began sweating like crazy. Mom gently squeezed my hand and asked me if I was alright. She had on a concern look.
I tried my best to calm down. "I...I remember."
"Darius will hopefully come visit you soon," Joan said. "As we speak, he is at the scene of the crime and doing some investigating."
Investigating? What was there to investigate? We already know who attacked me.
Tears fell from my face as I thought about Silver. My one and only sister. How could she do this to me? How could she scratch me and make me bleed? Was it her way of punishing me? From running away?
"Where...where is she?" I asked. Even my voice was weak. "Where is Silver?"
"In the waiting room. And the waiting room is far from here," Dad remarked.
"I am not afraid of her. I...I just want to know...why she...did it."
"And the other awful incidents," Joan added.
"Oh, Sam." Mom pulled me into a hug. "If only you knew."
I looked at her suspiciously. "If I knew what, Mom? What are you keeping from me?"
"You mean that your eldest daughter does not know?" Lorraine's father, Mr. King, piped up. "You need to tell her at once."
"It is time that she finds out," Mrs. King agreed.
Mom and Dad sighed and gave me sad glances.
My mom pulled away from me and said, "Silver...is not a normal girl."
"She is weird, but most definitely not the good kind," Lorraine muttered.
"Your sister has a disorder, Sam," my dad explained as best as he could. "It has been hard on me and your mother. And it is certainly hard for you."
Mom wiped away a tear. "Thank gosh that the doctors were able to stitch your chest back up."
I became shocked. "S-stitch?"
Joan pushed up her glasses. "To be exact, thirty-one stitches."
"Thirty-one stitches?!"
"Thankfully, none of your organs were scratched or affected," Lorraine reassured me. "The doctor informed all of us that you will make a full recovery."
"You really need to do something with that daughter of yours, Mr. and Mrs. Wolf," Mr. King insisted.
I pointed at myself. "Me?"
"No, not you, Samantha. You are great. It is the other one."
"We hear you loud and clear," Dad said. "Which is why we came to the agreement that the girls have a sleepover at your and the Mornings' houses."
"Huh?" I was a bit curious.
"Once you are discharged from the hospital, Sam, you will stay at Lorraine's house. Then at Joan's."
"So...I will not go home?"
"Not until your parents deal with Silver and possibly send her away to receive help," Mrs. Morning stated.
"Your belongings are already packed and at my house," Mrs. King said with a smile. "You are all set, and my husband and I will pick you up."
I sniffed and clutched the blankets. "Are you all implying that...my sister is crazy?"
"I would not call her crazy," Mr. Morning corrected me. "She needs help. That is all."
"Mom? Dad?"
"Yes, Sam?" they replied at once.
"Is Silver sorry that she scratched me and caused me to bleed out my blood?"
Mom hesitated. "No, honey. It is the opposite. She is proud that she made you suffer."
Anger boiled inside of me.
"Why does she hate me?!" I cried.
