"I am appalled," I admitted. "I cannot believe that Darius managed to escape. I thought that you werewolves had him locked up."

The werewolves and I were gathered around the werewolf king's throne. Word quickly spread that Darius was no longer in our clutches. This was not good news not only for the werewolves, but for me as well. Darius could very well stalk me and bring me to the vampire king. My body shivered at such thoughts.

Acure disappeared from the throne room and returned a few seconds later with his blanket. He wrapped it around me and whispered in my ear that he would protect me at all costs. I mouthed a thank you and rested my head on his chest.

"Darius must have had help with his escape," Xerus theorized. "He could not have escaped on his own. That would be impossible. A couple of my guards gave him something that would surely force him to stay put."

"What was it?" I piped up.

"Fire. The vampires of Forlot absolutely despise fire. That is why our staff blessed you with fire powers, Sam. The vampires will not want you now."

I rubbed my chin. "If you do not mind me asking, Your Majesty...what is a wolf's weakness?"

"Liver."

"'Liver'? But liver is meat."

"Liver upsets our stomachs," Acure explained. "We become weak when we eat it. We lose our capability to fight."

"Oh. Well, I will not hold that against all of you. I may be human, but even I do not like liver."

"Your Majesty?" a werewolf spoke. "We have more depressing matters to discuss. Like how a vampire now knows where our hideout is."

The other werewolves talked amongst one another, and Xerus raised his hand to silence them.

"Do not think that thought has not crossed your king's mind because it has," he stated. "I have a plan, so make sure that your ears are open."

Xerus' plan was to invade the vampire hideout and cause as much damage as possible in an effort to warn the vampires to not mess with the werewolves. To think that this would be the one time that it was okay to spray paint on somebody else's wall. Xerus further explained that a small group was to go out and locate the hideout first. Once the vampire hideout was discovered, the werewolves and the werewolf king who were not far behind the group would rip the place apart.

The werewolf king leaned back in his throne. "The only decisions that we need to make now are the people who will be in our small group."

Silver raised her hand. "May I make a suggestion, Your Majesty?"

"You may."

"Acure and I will be in the small group, and Sam, Joan, Lorraine, Margie, and Nova will join us."

Of course, Lorraine, Joan, and I were taken aback. We did not sign up for this. Heck, we did not sign up at all!

"Are you out of your flipping mind?" Lorraine questioned my sister. "Sam still does not know how to control her powers, and Joan and I are humans. Plus, I do not think that Joan is in a state to help."

Joan was a few inches away from us and sitting on the ground. Her arms were wrapped around her legs, and she was curled into a ball. I was worried about her and decided to comfort her.

"Joan." I walked towards her and plopped my bottom next to her. "What is the matter?"

My friend looked at me with tears in her eyes and staining her cheeks. She pulled her arms away from her legs, took off her glasses, and cleaned them using her shirt.

"Why are you crying?"

"I...I am sorry, Sam."

"There is no need for you to be sorry."

"Yes, there is. Here I am. Crying like a baby when I am supposed to be helping you and the werewolves. I am the nerd in your friend group and not assisting you in any way."

I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her into a hug. I prayed that I would not accidentally burn her to death.

She hugged me back and gripped my back. "I need...I need to find that boy and know who he is."

"The werewolves will be more than happy to help you search for him. Remember that Acure, Lorraine, and I volunteered to search for him too."

She pulled away from me and wiped her nose. "You are right, Sam. He has to be in Forlot somewhere. And something tells me that this will locate him."

Joan reached into the pocket of her pants and took out a necklace. It was a pendant connected to a yellow chain. The pendant was half of a yellow sun.

"I never knew that you had that," I said.

"That makes two of us," she replied. "I wonder if the boy has the other half of this necklace."

"You could be right. It would make it a lot easier to find him if he is wearing the pendant."

I felt a tap on my shoulder, and Joan and I glanced up to see Margie looming over us. Her hands were behind her back, and she cleared her throat.

"My apologies for not staying out of your business, but I could not help but listen to your conversation." She held out an open hand. "May I see that necklace? If you do not mind."

Joan and I looked at each other, and then back up at her. Joan put the necklace in the Monster Protector's hand, and Margie brought it close to her face and examined it.

"Do you remember any details about the boy, Joan?"

"Not much. Just that he had brown hair and wore glass."

Margie handed the necklace back to her. "I believe that I know where the boy is at."

Joan and I gasped. "You do?" we said in unison.

"That I do. Follow me."
