Sam's biological mom and dad were indeed dead.Sam was only a toddler when she lost her parents to the wicked vampires. She would not be here today if not for her age and instincts. Both of her parents were old and sick, so there was no chance for them to survive.
A short trip to Forlot turned into a living nightmare in a matter of minutes for the Wulf family. Yes, Wulf with the letter 'u' was Sam's real last name. It was just the three of them. Sam did not have any siblings, but had always wondered what it would be like to have a sister. One who would watch out for her.
From what she had seen on television, Sam assumed that it was always the older sister's job to protect the younger one. Same with brothers. Little did she realize that was not the case all the time.
After weeks of deciding, she came up with the decision to have a little sister. She knew that she was capable of teaching her new things and protecting her. She was responsible and a joy to be around. However, she never got the opportunity to ask her parents if she could have a sister.
Before I continue on with Sam's backstory, I should give you some insight on what the parents went through.
The parents were old. It was hard to tell that they were old, considering that did not have any wrinkles and had no problem walking up and down the stairs, but their ages and health conditions said it all.
The mom was in her fifties, while the dad was in his sixties. They were retired and respected in their neighborhood, which did help them in the long run.
A month before the Forlot vacation, Sam's mom was diagnosed with the worst stage of breast cancer. The same week, her dad was diagnosed with a large tumor in his brain. Despite pleas to their doctors, the doctors had the pleasure, if you can even call it that, of refusing treatment for them, telling them that there was nothing that they could do.
So that was it. Sam would lose the two people whom she loved the most to idiot cancer and a stupid tumor. After they both passed, she would have to be moved to an orphanage.
As you can understand - and I pray that you do - she was devastated that her parents would not live to see the days that she would make something of herself. The day that she graduated from high school. The day that she would marry her soulmate. The day that she would give birth to a baby...
The sad toddler cried every night for the rest of the month. It was difficult for her to sleep at night and to even sleep in her own bed. She was afraid that she would wake up to find her mother and father dead in their beds.
Of course, her parents were not oblivious that she was miserable. They were too and cried along with her. During the first week of the new month, the mother and father had a wonderful idea. The three of them would take a road trip to a small town that they had never heard of named Forlot.
"Forlot has five stars," Dad said. "It has so much to offer that we will not even remember why we have been down in the dumps."
Sam was over the moon with a fun and relaxing vacation and wasted no time in packing what she wanted to bring.
The beginning of the second week was when they made their getaway. They left early in the morning and arrived to Forlot at night. The road trip took about ten hours.
The father who was driving the car parked it on the side of the road, and he and the mother stepped out. Now this is where it gets a bit strange. The vehicle was not parked by a restaurant or any other type of building. It was next to the woods. The toddler thought nothing of it and was instead delighted where this would lead.
The mother opened one of the back doors of the car and carefully pulled her child out. Sam held her hand as they and her father strolled into the woods.
"Where are we going, Mommy? Where are we going, Daddy?" Sam asked.
Neither of them responded, and she wrinkled her nose.
"Is this the way to the hotel, Mommy and Daddy?"
Still no response.
"Why are you giving me the silent treatment, Mommy and Daddy?"
All of a sudden, the mom let go of her daughter's hand, and she and the dad collapsed on their backs. Their eyes were shut. Their lifeless bodies glistened in the moonlight.
Now Sam was scared. "Mommy? Daddy?"
She was about to shake them in an effort to wake them up when she heard something in the distance. Two somethings. No. They were not in the distance. The separate growls were coming from the tree next to her.
Sam slowly raised her head - and saw them. Saw the two pairs of eyes, vampire eyes, staring at her.
Her screams echoed throughout Silver Woods, and she ran as fast as her little legs could carry her. She tripped over some rocks and twigs, but not even those could stop her.
Except a white wolf that was blocking her path.
Sam screeched to a halt and shook in fear. "Please...do not eat me," she whimpered.
The wolf was not interested in eating her. Instead, it wanted help. It raised its paw, showing the toddler the bear trap that it accidentally got itself in and whimpered.
"Oh, no," Sam said. "You poor thing. You are scared like me."
The wolf nodded.
"I will help you if you do not eat me and...if you help me."
The wolf nodded again. It - or should I say, she - had her own plan in mind.
