I did not realize how hard I was breathing until I found my voice. "What...are you saying? No. You are lying." I faced Lorraine, my shaking eyes staring into hers. I did not see even a glimpse of guilt or evil. "She is not a..." I could not bring myself to speak the word. I knew in my heart that Lorraine is a great person like me and Joan. We have known her for most of our lives. He wanted to get under my and the werewolves' skin. Or if they were in their werewolf form, fur. He wanted to distract us so the vampire clan could get the upper hand.

The stupid vampires would have to turn me into one of them before I let them wipe out all the werewolves. My family.

I began kicking my legs, trying to get free from Darius. I glared back at Acumchang. "You are one big, fat liar." I shared the glare with the other vampires. "Same goes for all of you. I would prefer dying slowly and painfully over living an eternal life with you psychos. Murderers. At least that werewolves can devour human foods. You never see them stalking humans...and other intelligent creatures...and tearing them apart."

Darius squeezed me, forcing all the air out of my lungs. A sharp cry slipped out from my mouth. I grew weak. I was in intense pain. My legs once hard like a rock were now shaky like jello. My muscles were pulsing, and my eyelids were heavy.

I was tired. Tired of the war. The vampires. I wanted to return home and everything back to normal, while still knowing my family's big secret. I wanted to slide under my soft covers, drop my head on my pillow, and sleep.

My eyes closed. My head slumped. I let sleep take me.

No!

My head jerked up. My eyes opened. My family needed me now as much as I needed them. I could not sleep. If I wanted these sinister vampires to leave us and all the other townsfolk be, we had to fight - and win. This war had to end once and for all.

Silver's eyes changed. They were huge, looking just like a creature's. A werewolf's. "No one hurts my only sister and gets away with it!"

"No one messes with my family and gets away with it!" I declared. I managed to jerk my arm free and used the bits of strength left to punch Darius in his perfect face. When my fist made contact with his cheek, I heard this faint yet sickening crack. I raced towards my sister and practically collapsed in her arms. I gazed back at him.

Darius was lying on his side on the ground and holding his cheek. "Sam broke my cheek! She broke my flippin' cheek!"

I can check breaking someone's bones off my list.

"That was only the beginning," I said proudly, hugging Silver. "The beginning of the end of the war." I pointed to the vampire king. "So give us all that you got. 'Cause by tomorrow morning...you and your vampires will get on your knees in surrender. If you guys are not dead."

Zigeras threw back his head and let out a chilling laugh that shook the vampire lair.

"Sam," Silver whispered. "Please do not anger him. He will turn you into dust with a snap of his fingers."

"He is not reacting angrily."

Dad's eyes moved up to him. Then back down at me. "I will bring you home, Sam. You cannot get caught up in the fight."

"Too late. I already am. These vampires kidnapped me. They were going to turn me into a vampire. An evil one just like them. So no. I am not going anywhere. I might not be a werewolf, but I can put up mean fights. I must be the first human to break a vampire's bones. Put that in your record book." I slowly shook my head at Darius now rising and staring back at me with a killer face. He wanted to hurt me. Kill me. "Darius. Do not come near me or my family - unless that you want another broken bone. You vampires are not as invincible as you claim."

Darius smirked.

"What are you grinning about? And how can you? Your cheekbones are broken." Somebody clutched my arms. "Hey. Lorraine?"

She closed her eyes. "I am so sorry."

"Sorry? For what?"

She brought her face to my neck.

"L-Lorraine? What are you...ow!" Two sharp items dug into my skin. Pain shot through my body. Her grips on my arms were too strong. I could not pull away. I could not utter a single word. I could only scream.

Why were the werewolves not stepping in?

You readers will not believe the twist.

After what felt like an hour of agonizing pain, Lorraine ripped her fangs out from my skin and pushed me with little effort. I landed on my stomach with a loud thud. I was greeted with even more pain. I was totally wiped. I could not stand back up or even raise my head. My legs and arms were out. My head was spinning. My muscles were spasming. I should have let Dad bring me home.

Now I was a...vampire. I would suck blood for eternity.

Zigeras applauded. "Good work, my beautiful vampire. Your efforts will not go unrewarded."

Lorraine walked past me and bent her knees to bow. "I thank you."

Joan spoke in a high-pitched voice. "L-Lorraine. Y-you are a vampire?"

Not looking at her, Lorraine answered, "Yes."

"How long...?"

"About a year. The vampires approached me and asked me how badly I wanted to live forever as this invincible being. How could I say no?"

"So you knew about Sam's family this whole time. That they are werewolves. You left Sam in the dark too. And me. 'Cause you are working for the villains."
