If you real worlders really believe that having fire powers or any other kinds of powers is a dream come true, you are mistaken. Having powers looks like a lot of fun, but there is more to bending them to your will. You have to control them and be careful that you do not hurt anyone that you do not mean to. Sounds simple, huh? It is simple, not easy.

Do you know how many times I accidentally set something on fire before burning it into a mountain of ashes? More times than I can count. I will use lunch as my example. The werewolves, my two friends, and I were sitting at a long and narrow table that stretched from one side of the cave to another. The werewolf king sat in the middle of the table and made a toast in my honor.

"I would like to give this toast to Sam Wolf. Although that she is human, she is a member of the werewolf family and legacy."

He clinked drinks with the werewolves who were closest to him and began chowing down on his lunch. Once he did, the rest of us did the same. The meal was a full chicken with a baked potato and peas and a glass filled with grape juice on the side. Now, considering that these guys were part wolf, it was no surprise that they ate all their food in less in fifteen minutes. Even my sister did not slow down for me.

The wolf prince, who decided to sit next to me instead of his father, let out a burp, said excuse me, and asked me what was taking me so long. I replied that it was a challenge to eat and drink when everything that I touched melted. My silverware was melted, and my glass of juice was a pile of ashes.

"Would you like me to feed you?" Acure offered.

"Thanks. But no thanks," I declined. "I do not need to be treated like a baby."

"But Sam, you have to have strength in order to make it through the rest of today. If you are having trouble eating because of your powers, I will be more than happy to feed you."

I laid my elbow on the table and rested my head in my palm. "I bet that you would."

Suddenly, I felt my chin growing hot. I screamed and quickly lifted my head. My palm was no longer empty. It now had a fireball. I narrowed my eyebrows, and my face was filled with annoyance.

"Stupid powers," I grumbled.

"You will get the hang of it. I know that you will," Acure reassured me.

"Acure and I will be giving you lessons on how to control your powers after you eat your lunch," Silver spoke up.

"The lessons might not happen today, sis. Or tomorrow. Or next week!"

"Oh, you will be training today. Tonight, you and your friends, if they would like to join us, will be assisting us werewolves. We are invading the vampire territory."

I uttered a gasp and scooted my chair away from the table. I held up my hands and shook them left and right. "Nope. After dealing with Darius and his brothers, there is no way that I will purposely surround myself with killer vampires."

The wolf prince got up from his seat and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "You will be fine, Sam. Those idiot vampires will not be able to lay one of their undead fingers on you because your fire powers will be flowing through your body."

"Great. I am that one pot that you do not want to touch," I said sarcastically.

In the end, I ate as much as I could before calling it quits because I hated my powers interfering. Lorraine cleaned her plate, but I cannot say the same for Joan. Joan, in fact, had not eaten anything that was on her plate. She was just poking at the peas with her fork.

"Joan?" I said. "You seem sad."

"That is because I am sad," she confirmed. She tossed her fork onto her plate. "I am not hungry."

"What has gotten you the blues?" Lorraine asked.

"I...I had a short and immediate realization."

"Really?" Silver wondered. "What was it about?"

"I...I remember a boy. He had on glasses like mine."

I leaped from my seat and hurried to her. "You mean...that boy from that picture that you found?"

"Yes. It was the same boy. I was in a house and on a carpet. I had little hands, so I must have been a baby when this occurred. Anyway, I was playing with my toys when I heard creaking sounds. It was coming from the front door."

"Was it an intruder?" Acure guessed.

"It was the boy. I am not sure if he was an intruder or not. The only things that I know were that he leaned down and kissed me on the forehead and told me to not make any loud noises because he was there to grab some of his belongings."

"You remember all that?" Lorraine said. "My parents told me that I locked my mother out of the house, and I do not remember that."

Joan shrugged and adjusted her glasses. "I am not sure why I remember that. Maybe there is a reason. Maybe I need to find and meet this boy."

Silver rubbed her chin and looked as if she were thinking. "Since that we have plenty of time before the invasion tonight, I can help you track down the boy. I am a werewolf after all. I have a keen sense of smell."

Acure raised his hand. "I will help as well."

Lorraine pointed at me and herself. "So will Sam and I."

Joan's frown turned right side up. "Thank you, guys. I am blessed to have friends like you."

It was not long after that we were told that Darius escaped.
