Of course, Darius was joking. However, I asked him if he was serious, and he responded that if he were a vampire, he would have bitten me way before now. Pushing all that aside, he did believe in my suspicions and suggested that we do a little investigating.

I came up with the perfect plan. I ordered Darius to fetch me some blank papers and a writing utensil. He obeyed, took off, and returned with two objects in his hands. Two pieces of pure white paper and a pen that had purple ink.

While doodling my plan, Joan and Lorraine walked in. I yelled to them the phrase 'perfect timing' and beckoned them with my hand to join us. They sipped on their drinks as they stood across from Darius.

I was close to being finished drawing out the plans, so I wasted no time in explaining what would be taking place after my discharge. Joan's parents were supposed to take care of me tonight, so we would ask them if they could stop by the hardware store on the way home. There should be no trouble in fulfilling our request because they will be feeling sorry for me.

Joan, Lorraine, Darius, and I would be dropped off and explore the store for a bit while Joan's mother and father waited patiently in the car. We would get everything that is on the list that I am making now as I tell my friends this. We would then trade something valuable of ours for the items, scramble back in the car, and go to Joan's house.

"That is not much of a plan, Sam," Lorraine piped in.

"That is only part one," I replied. "Part two will be exciting for your taste."

I continued that we would begin the investigation once it was seven o'clock sharp. We would have lunch with the Mornings and let them know that we would be gone for at least an hour or two at night. Our excuse? We would be in the Forlot park.

"We are going to the park?" Joan cut in, smiling with her teeth shown. "I love being in the park!"

I set down the pen. "Hate to tell you, Joan, but we are not really going to the park."

"...oh." Her smile turned upside down. If she were a bunny, her ears would have flopped. "Where are we attending instead?"

I grinned. "Where else? My house. We will be trespassing Silver's room."

Lorraine ran her fingers through her hair. "Whoa, wait. Why break into your sister's bedroom? I know that she is not the kindest person around, but we should respect her privacy."

"Relax, Lorraine," Darius joined in on the conversation. "The only thing that Sam wants to be sure of is if Silver is a werewolf or not."

She stared at me. "Do not tell me that your younger sister is a werewolf."

I slowly nodded. "I am afraid so, however, I do not desire to jump to conclusions. That is why all four of us are going through with this mission."

No surprise that my friend burst out laughing and slapped her knee. Notice how my writer spelled 'friend' and not 'friends.' That is because unlike Lorraine, Joan was already convinced by my words. She pressed her warm drink against her chest and gulped.

"Sam...how are you positive that she could be a werewolf?"

"I remember when she accidentally scratched me as plain as day. Her nails looked too long and too pointy to be that of human nails. They were black...like a wolf's."

Lorraine forced herself to stop laughing and said, "Now that you mention it, I have spotted your sister with both regular nails and claws. I figured that it was part of her wolf costume."

"Stop me when you think that I have gone off my rocker..." Joan began. "...but there was one time when she was at our school that I could have sworn that I saw a tail that a female wolf would usually have dangling below her dress. I was reading a book about myths at the time and assumed that it was getting to me."

I rubbed my chin with a finger. "She being an actual werewolf may also explain why she always has an appetite during meals. I remember when she, my parents, and I were having dinner, and Silver practically vacuumed up her food."

"Well, this is Forlot," Darius reminded us. "Anything can happen."

An hour or so later, I was discharged from the hospital, and Mr. and Mrs. Morning took us to their house. When we were getting close to the hardware store, I asked them politely if we could stop by the shop and pick up a few things that I needed. They agreed without hesitation, and my friends and I hurried into the store.

When I was inside, I pulled out the list from the pocket of my pants and unfolded it. Here was the list:

- Flashlights
- Headbands with Flashlights
- Hammer
- Toolbox
- Large Box

"Why a large box?" Darius questioned me.

"To put any clues that we find in it," I explained.

Each of us picked out which item to search for. I volunteered to locate two of the items, but Darius remarked that he would and was the first to go searching.

About ten minutes later, we met by the row of registers. Darius volunteered to trade and traded in his superhero cape that was extremely rare. The deed was done, and we rushed out of there with our new items and back into the car.

"That did not take long," Mrs. Morning remarked. "What did you get?"

"Stuff for a school project," I lied.

We soon were at Joan's home and settling in her bedroom. Mr. and Mrs. Morning allowed us to eat our lunch in the room. We were almost through, when a scary wolf came to the window.

But how could that be? We were on the second floor!
