I was more than aware of the surroundings of Silver Woods, and my helpful assistance was useful late that night.

Since that there was no police station in Forlot, Darius, my friends, and I decided that it would be best to head for home. My home. We could tell to my mother and father about what happened at the hospital, and they could get in contact with the authorities.

We thought that there would be no problem, and there was not. Up until we explained to my parents of the occurrence.

My mom and dad are one of the greatest pairs that you could ever grow up with. They are neither lazy nor strict. They are reasonable and protect me and Silver from dangers that pop up in Forlot. Knowing this, you would think that they would give the police from the next town a call.

Shockingly, both Mom and Dad refused to call them or even the mayor of Forlot, claiming that the wolves were using their animal instincts and that no animal could go to jail for doing what they should do. I did not buy their excuses for one minute, and neither did Lorraine, Joan, or Darius.

"Mr. and Mrs. Wolf, you should really call the police," Lorraine begged.

"I got a close look at the white wolf that attacked your daughter, Sam, and something tells me that wolf was not fully animal," Joan added.

"Do not be naive, Joan," Dad said. "Animals are animals. Humans are humans."

"Have you girls and Darius watched too many werewolf movies and planted these ridiculous claims into our daughter's brain?" Mom suspected. "The four of you should be old enough to know that there are no such things as werewolves."

"Who said that the white wolf was a werewolf? None of us!" I exclaimed. "What Joan said was only an assumption, and the part where Lorraine found the wolf hiding in the shower actually happened."

Dad crossed his arms over his chest. "You were on the fifth floor. How the crub did the wolf reach the fifth floor and enter your bathroom without anyone noticing?"

I put my palms on my waist. "That...is still a mystery."

"There is a wide window by the shower," Lorraine reminded us. "Call me crazy, but maybe, just maybe, the wolf got in through the window."

"That is crazy," Mom said. "The wolf must have superpowers then. But like I said, there are no such things as werewolves."

"Especially ones that speak English," Dad added. He strolled over to the telephone and picked it up.

I snapped my fingers. "Ha! We convinced you to make the call."

"No, Sam. I am calling Lorraine's parents. Remember? You will be staying with Lorraine and her parents."

It should not come as a surprise to you that I was ticked. Why would Mom and Dad not do it? Why did they not want the authorities to be on the lookout for the werewolves...er, wolves?

First, Silver. And now, this. I had some investigating to do.

And that is what I told my friends and Darius when we were far from my house. We were at Lorraine's house and in the living room. Joan could stay for the night, but Darius had to go when it was bedtime. The four of us were on the carpeted floor and in a circle, our legs crossed.

"The good news is that my mom and dad believed us and will be meeting with the police tomorrow," Lorraine reassured us.

"Better than what your parents did, Sam," Joan commented. "Do they have something against the police?"

I shrugged. "Not that I am sure of. They are friendly and kind towards everyone."

"What if that is not how they truly act behind closed doors?" Darius made a great suggestion. "To me, it seems as if they are hiding something."

"Oh, they are definitely hiding something from me. Last night, I overheard them talking with Silver in her room, and Mom said to her that I would not want to get suspicious."

Joan was massaging her fingers. "Suspicious of what?"

"That is what we have to uncover. We need to search for clues and uncover the truth."

"Whoa. That sounded like the leader of the teenage gang with that dog. The gang that solves mysteries," Lorraine remembered. "Good times."

"We are going to be detectives?" Darius asked.

I smirked. "Little, sneaky detectives. And our first case will be what my parents are hiding from us."

An hour had passed, and it was time for bed. I led Darius to the front door and opened it. He stepped outside, and I said goodbye.

"Uh, Sam?"

"Yes, Darius?"

"I heard from some of the students at your school that there would be a party the day after tomorrow."

"A party? Nobody told me."

"The party is supposed to help raise awareness for the poor animals who are in shelters and in need of a home." He shoved his hands in his pockets. "And I was wondering...if you would like to be my date."

"Y-your date?" My cheeks were burning!

"It would be perfect. You see, I have no friends—"

I interrupted. "You have me, Joan, and Lorraine. And I would be honored to be your date."

"Then I guess..." He chuckled. "...it is a date."

"Will you be at school tomorrow, Darius?"

"Of course."

"Then we can discuss more on the party there."

"Gladly, Sam."

I shut the door and sank to the floor. I thought that he would never ask!

I could not stop dreaming about the party all night. I imagined Darius in a nice tuxedo and me in a beautiful dress and us dancing. Dancing to the music that would never end.

But I wish that I never daydreamed. I wish that I did not use my creative imagination. 'Cause something ruined the occasion. Or should I say, someone.

And that someone was my sister. She cancelled the party.
