Rule one: Don't let people see you weak
Rule two: Hold your secrets close
Rule three: Never fall in love
Rule four: Intimidate and manipulate
Rule five: Trust no one

Madison had made five promises to herself when she was first crowned Queen in her sophomore year of High School. Unfortunately, by senior year, she had broken every one of them.

Somehow Madison Black was no longer the girl who feared nothing and no one, and lived for the darkness. Now she was a girl who was afraid of the dark and terrified of anyone finding out her secrets.

Worst of all, she fell in love with Logan when she wasn't supposed to and now she chose to trust Liam, when every inch of her warned her against it.

But she didn't care. Killing Logan was the last straw for her and now she was done trying to follow the rules she had set for herself.

The first class went smoothly. Madison focused on the teacher more than she usually did and wrote copious notes throughout.

The second class however was interrupted almost immediately by the principal calling for Madison to go to his office.

She walked down the corridor alone, she had a feeling that this surprise meeting with the principal was to do with Logan's 'disappearance'.

"Now, I know you and Logan Bradley are close so I'm sorry to have to say this to you but he has been reported missing by his family and the police are eager to find him." Principal Jones told her as she sat opposite him.

She hoped that he wouldn't notice her hands shaking on her lap. Or the faint bruise on her forehead from Friday night.

"I understand, sir. I heard about it on the radio." She replied, nodding her head.

"You must be worried about him."

"Yes, I am."

Principal Jones continued to talk about Logan and how his family had organised a search party tonight with the rest of the town.

Luckily, Madison and Liam destroyed his body across the state. There was no trace. Nothing to lead back to her. Yet her hands continued to shake on her lap, as she gripped them together to force her hands to stay still. But it didn't work.

How would this end? They were never going to find him ...

After informing the Principal that she would be joining the search party and would do anything she could to help find him, she abruptly left his office, keen on leaving the awkward conversation about her dead ex-boyfriend.

She hurried down the corridor back to her classroom. Unbeknownst to Madison, Jake Owens lingered round the corner, watching her closely.

Lunch was unbearable.

"Did you see him this weekend?"

"No, did you?"

"I haven't heard from him since he left the diner on Friday."

"Where do you think he's gone?"

"Probably off with some chick."

That's when the attention was instantly directed at Madison, who was staying silent throughout the conversation.

"I don't know where he is and I honestly couldn't care less." She said bluntly to the group, continuing to play with her salad instead of eating it.

Everyone believed her, except for one.

Jake Owens was sitting opposite her at the table, staring at her. Hoping that she would crack and spill something, but he had no luck.
