Angst~ Sorrow ~Loss
~Day of funeral~
Lilly was really tired from not resting for 48 hours. The woman did manage to eat some raw fruit. She didn't have to sleep or eat but remain in more human rhythms, Lilly maintained a pattern similar. It's what was often the reason, some vampires seemed so far from, human in nature. It was the emotional exhaustion and guilt. If she could have loved David he would still be alive. Lilly would have laid hands and healed him. The immortal felt utterly alone.
Perhaps it was becoming time? Everything must complete the cycle and pass on, about 4,000 years was long enough wasn't it?
Lillia arrived 2 hours early, to make sure all was done and his family was situated. She helped make sure the music was set, for her to sing at the funeral. David had wanted to be mummified but Lilly refused, saying burial laws in Britain wouldn't allow it. Her lawyer firm "backed" her up on the story. The real reason was an inner voice told her not to. Now after last night, she could raise David as a mummy and that was definitely an awful realization.
John came up to her and asked, "How are you doing?"
She just nodded her head.
"The police are still investigating an incident near the museum. Do you know anything about that?"
Another nod and then it was time to start the first round of sorrow to begin:
O Fortune,
like the moon
you are changeable,
ever waxing and waning
hateful life
first oppresses and then soothes
as fancy takes it poverty and power
it melts them like ice.
Fate - monstrous and empty
you whirling wheel,
you are malevolent,
well-being is vain and always fades to nothing,
Shadowed and veiled
you plague me too
now through the game
I bring my bare back to your villainy.
Fate is against me in health and virtue
driven on and weighted down always enslaved.
So at this hour without delay
pluck the vibrating strings;
since Fate strikes down the strong man,
Everyone weeps with me!
(Carl Orff- Carmina Burana 1937)
When she had finished singing the song, Lilly stepped away only to have The Count, lace his left arm in her right and lead her gentlemanly like, out of the room. He leaned over and whispered into her ear, "I have tickets to Carmina Burana but I think that it will only pale, to your voice just now. You sing, as if a millennium of sorrow is in your heart."
"Sometimes it does indeed, my dear Vlad," as she laid her head on his upper arm.
Vlad took that as a clue to return to David's. The fates may have cut David's mortal threads but he was the No Life King and the fates did not cut his threads and hadn't since, he had become "cursed" Nosferatu. His mind had just remembered, a moment in his and Ylva's shared life, of such pain from the fates....
"Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live"
-Norman Cousins
