The War Recovery

Kion wakes up; he looks up to see a dim light coming through the lair's entrance. He figures it's late afternoon. He gets up, still sore, and with a slight gash. He looks down at his front legs and chest, still slightly raw. He can see small patches of flesh through his fur.

Kion turns to Rani to wake her up. He licks the side of her face, then hops down from the rock with a grunt. Rani gets up and yawns. She jumps down too.

"Hey, I'm going to go check on my parents," Kion tells Rani as she stretches.

"Ah, Alright," Rani replies as Kion heads outside. He looks for his mom and dad walking over to a grove of trees; he finds the royal pair sleeping.

Kion walks up to Simba, waking him up."Dad?"

Kion nuzzles Simba as he drowsily responds. "Oh, Kion, you feeling better, son?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Still a little sore, but overall I'm alright."

Nala wakes up next to Simba, hearing him speak. "Kion, what happened? Why were you being attacked?" Nala asks as she nuzzles him.

"I don't know, Mabaya wanted my help at first but-"

"Mabaya?" Simba interjects.

"Yeah, what about him?."

Nala stiffens up. "Kion, Mabaya is a dark shaman. He's the only one who can bring Scar back to life," Nala replies.

"Come back to life? Like, resurrect him?" Kion asks quizzically.

"Yes, Kion." Nala answers.

"If Mabaya is going to resurrect Scar, we have to go back to the Pridelands!" Simba tells them both.

"Back to the Pridelands? You're leaving already!?!"

"The Pride lands is the only place where Mabaya can work his dark magic and bring Scar back."

"Oh, alright." Kion sighs as he lowers his head.

"Don't be sad, Kion. We'll come back soon." Nala replies.

"Okay." The three of them start walking to the Tree, seeing the Night Pride and Lion guard conversing.

Rani looks up to see the three of them walking towards the mountain pass, and starts to walk over. "Hey, what's going on, Kion?" Rani asks.

"They have to leave," Kion replies.

"Already? They just got here!" Ono says as he overhears what's going on.

Simba walks over to the others.

"Nala and I have to leave; we think Mabaya could be trying to resurrect Scar."

"Resurrect, Scar?!" Ono yelps.

"Really? Mabaya can do that?" Fuli asks Simba.

"Indeed. That's why we have to leave now. Don't worry, though; we'll be back as soon as we are assured of the Pride land's safety."

Simba and Nala turn towards Kion to say goodbye.

"Stay safe, son," Nala says as she nuzzles Kion.

"Bye, Dad," Kion tells Simba.

Simba and Nala start their journey back to the Pridelands. Kion turns around to the group as the sun dips down behind them.

"Will the Night Pride be going on patrol tonight?" Kion asks Surak.

"Yes, we'll go by the moon's light."

Mrembo comes towards the group.

"Hey, guys. Have any of you seen Shido?" Mrembo asks.

"No, we haven't seen him since-"

"I'm right here," Shido says as he approaches from behind Mrembo.

Shido looks over at the Night Pride getting ready for patrol.

"You mind if I come along?"

Surak looks over at Shido.

"You want to go on patrol with us?"

"It's the least I can do to atone for what I've done."

Nirmala looks over at Surak.

"We could use a fourth since Rani doesn't patrol with us much anymore," Nirmala tells Surak.

"What do you think, Rani?" Surak asks.

"Hmm, fine by me. But Surak will keep an eye on you, Shido."

"That's fine."

"Alright, Shido, let's go."

The Night Pride walks off, Shido following close behind.

Everyone heads off to rest as night falls. Fuli walks off to find Azzad and Bunga. She runs past the marsh, also trying to spot Binga. Ono and Onga fly off to their nests.

As Kion and Rani watch everyone leave, Rani turns around to enter the Tree. She passes Kion and rubs her body against his. Kion turns his head, receiving a light fwap from her tail as she goes into the lair. He follows in quickly. Rani hops on the rock, and Kion follows. Before he lays down, though, Kion pauses.

"Where's Makini? I haven't seen her around for a while," Kion asks, turning to Rani.

"Oh, she's just working on her tree," Rani replies.

"Her tree?"

"Yeah, she said she needs a baobab to sleep or paint maybe. I forget what exactly she told me."

"I Don't blame you for forgetting; it is Makini ."

Both of them chuckle as Rani starts to stretch. Kion pushes her to the ground, both of them falling on the rock giggling.

"That hurt me more than you," Kion says, still a little sore.

"Hmh, because you are a mighty boy."

Kion grumbles at the comment. " >:| "

"What? It's a compliment."

As Rani and Kion play some more, Scar is busy building a new army. He got Mabaya to ask a leopard and his prowl to join them before leaving for the Pridelands.

Shabozi is the prowl's leader, most recognized by his size. He leads four leopards at the base of the mountains. It's a way away from the Tree of Life, but accessible by Mabaya and Scar.

Scar begins to plan a whole new scheme that Kion can't and won't expect. The coming days will grow quiet, awaiting the impending attack.
