Apparently it wasn't just a dinner. It was the serious as fuck kind.
"You can still decline you know," it was the tenth time he was telling me this. Seems he was nervous.
"Its okay, I mean your dad can't be that bad" I smiled. Truth be told j was nervous too.
"Someone should tell her," Meg said worriedly while Mac patted her back.
"She's gonna be fine" she replied. Ty did the last touches to my hair.
"There all good and remember in case it gets wild you have a gun in your dress and a knife under your heel" I nodded.
"You guys are over doing this," Logan sighed.
"Let's just go already" I hummed.
We walked in through the main door. I looked over at the servants awaiting us.
"Sir, your father is awaiting you with Sir Jayce and Mrs" his grip tightened over my hand. I patted his arm.
"Alright," we walked down a long hall turning a few times before arriving in the dinning Hall. I wasn't one bit fazed by the inside though since I'd seen this before.
"Welcome son," I turned to look up the stair case to see a man in a dark blue turtle neck with dark green eyes he sure looked like Logan himself. Logan nodded to him.
"Father," he replied. This was the coldest I'd ever seen him.
"And who did you bring with you," his gaze turned to me. Well good girl mode on. I smiled brightly to him and bowed in respect.
"Evening Sir, I'm Donovan Mara," he raised a brow at me.
"For once you've brought someone decent," he stated. I could feel Logan fume. I held his hand to calm him down.
"Don't be so hard on him Father," I turned to the door. An older version of Logan.
"Ah Jayce, my legitimate son" the boy smiled.
"Evening Father, how have you been" the man nodded.
"Better since you've been back" Logan scoffed. Jayce turned to his brother.
"Its been so long lil bro, you've grown well" Logan frowned.
"Let's just get down to it," he said dragging me. I halted feeling a cold hand pull me back.
"Excuse me? But I've never seen you before," his eyes were the same green as Logan's. His were more of a bluish green.
"Oh! I'm Mara Donovan" I greeted. He smiled his thumb stroking my hand. A wave of heat hit me.
"Its burning" I muttered. Logan pulled me away from him. I noticed his left eye was red again.
"That's enough," he growled. His brother's gaze narrowed one of his eyes flashed blue then back to its green color.
"Don't be rude, I was just asking for her name," he sneered at his brother. I squeezed his hand a bit.
"Its fine," I whispered. He sighed then walked to the table.
As they ate they made small talk about politics and all that. Typical from men. Logan didn't join in guess he wasn't into politics.
"By the way," Jayce turned to his brother.
"I heard you got into another school," Logan's eyes narrowed.
"So?" He asked.
"Its the third time in two years Logan, when are you going to go see a doctor" his father said. I glanced at him.
"I don't see what you mean," his father glared at him. Papers and documents were thrown between us. I caught a glimpse of a burnt body.
"These are the results of your so called fun, do you even know how horrible what you did was?" His father went on. The air became heavy.
"Logan, please consider it, what if you get someone close to you hurt?" Jayce said. Logan sneered.
"Like you did?" The moment he said that I smacked him.
"What was that for?!" He yelled. I glared down.
"Don't be rude! I don't know what happened to you but if you end up getting hurt cause of your own recklessness I won't forgive you," I stated. He looked away in embarrassment. I sighed taking his hand.
"Just listen this could be for your own good," I added. He grumbled a few things and huffed. I turned to Jayce.
"I'm sorry for his attitude, exams are taking a tool on us" he blinked. Guess it was rare to see a lady correct her lad.
"Young lady tell me about yourself, what families are you from?" I nervously laughed.
"I'm from the high class kinds but both my parents passed away," I said avoiding any details.
"My I'm sorry," I shook my head.
"No no its fine, and anyways I have Logan to keep me in check," I smiled.
"Is that so? I've noticed your relationship with my son is special, are you his girlfriend," I blushed.
"Yes" I was surprised when we both said that.
"Logan has never been the type to date, I'm surprised he's met such a well mannered girl," Jayce chuckled.
"But he's adorable," I smiled. I turned to Logan who's face was red.
"Look at him! He's so cute~!" I chimed. Jayce snorted.
"Anyways, where's Mom?" His father cleared his throat.
"She's in the middle of a prayer session, she'll be coming soon" I blinked a few times.
"I didn't know your Mother was so religious," Logan chuckled.
"She isn't in fact-" before he could explain the doors opened letting in a woman with long black hair and pale blue eyes.
"Я опоздал?Извините меня" I didn't understand a single shit she'd said.
"Evening Mom," she turned to Logan and smiled. She went to him hugging the life out of him.
"Мой дорогой сын, ой как ты вырос" she then turned to me. She cocked her head. Her pale eyes glistened as she eyed me. For a second I felt something cold behind me. I caught a glimpse of a white husky at the door.
"How many dogs do you have?" I asked.
"Dogs? We only have Parker why?" I pointed to the door.
"There's another there," I said. Logan glanced to his mom then to me.
"What kind is it?" His father asked.
"A white husky," I stated. I turned back to the woman I held out a hand.
"I'm Mara Donovan, nice to meet you Mrs. Milles" his mother didn't reply. Then the unexpected happened. A single tear ran down her face.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! Did I say something wrong?" Was it my fault? Crap! How do I fix this!?
"Я в порядке, это ничего" she halted.
"Sorry," she switched to our language. Finally.
"I'm sorry did I offend you?" I really wanted to make a good impression.
"Maybe your just exhausted, take a rest for the night" Logan said. She sighed. Her husband escorted her back. Before leaving she turned to me.
"Mara dear, I'm sorry for what happened in Louisiana," my eyes widened.
"What," she smiled at me.
"Just know they never meant what they did," she said before leaving. My body started to shake. The burn came again. A smell of smoke came to me. I heard someone call me but I didn't hear. Logan said something then dragged me through what felt like the hall and a few stairs then more walking then-
"Argh-!" Cold water. Very cold but...sweet and it calmed me down a bit.
"Mara? Do you hear me?" I looked at him through soaked strands of hair.
"Logan," I whispered. He smiled at me sadly.
"Its okay, you'll be fine," he helped me up. I wrapped my legs around his waist clinging to him. I don't know why but the thought of him letting go scared me to death.
"Hey you need to let go to change," I shook my head.
"If you do we can cuddle more," I mumbled a few things then let go.
After changing into one of his one of his shirts, someone has got to explain how the hell his shirt was this huge, I went to hug him again. His body was a nice cold. Like a fresh pillow with the smell of pumpkin and cinnamon.
"By the way," I hummed.
"I realised I don't know anything about you," I hummed again. Too lazy to reply.
"Tell me more about yourself," I rolled onto my side.
"Tell me what you want to know" I smiled. He smiled back.
"I noticed you lived alone, why not with siblings?" Siblings. Its been what? Ten years since I've heard the word.
"I can't," I replied. He frowned.
"Why? Got family issues?" I laughed.
"I wish, I really wish it was only that," I sighed.
"My sister hung herself when I was three, she was a major who failed a test while my brother was drowned at the age of 5, both died before me and I could even stop them" I turned to him.
"I wish we'd been like you and Jayce just never getting along, then maybe when they died I wouldn't have been so sad" I chuckled.
"Don't say that, its not your fault" I smiled. I wish I'd been told that in the first place.
"It is and will always be, I stood there stupidly while there lives were cut down" I sighed.
"You seem calmer than I thought about this" I giggled.
"Keep on smiling and shining, no one likes a face soaked in salty tears, was what my mom always said" I turned back to him. My hair was still wet but every time it touched my skin it felt like fire.
"any other questions?" He cocked his head.
"How do you feel?" I smiled.
"Like shit!" I giggled. His face was sad. I pouted.
"Stop pitying me, I'm alright the way I am" I said. He sat up bring me to his lap. His back leaned against the bed while I leaned into his chest.
"I won't judge if you want to cry" I shook my head.
"Its fine Mara I'm here for you," that was it. A stream of tears went rolling down my eyes.
"They promised to never leave me," I hiccupped. A long gone promise gone in the wind.
"My sister even said, 'When I'm done studying we'll go see the stars'! Lies! All of it! They left me alone! To our parents!"
"For years I was accused to killing my own sister! For years my father blamed me for my brother's death! Years and years!"
"I got sent to a reinforcement school for a year! Everyday I was reminded of them! The noises! My brother's screams as he drowned! My sister's body fighting over the rope!"
"They left me! Then I was called in for murder!"
"Its unfair! Its so freakin unfair!"
"They abandoned me Logan, they threw me away" I cried my soul out to him. My head hurt but the tears didn't stop. Years of kept in emotions. Hours went by before I stopped crying turning them into small hiccups.
"Its fine, you still have me," I looked at him.
"You promise? You'll never leave like they did?" He nodded.
"Logan," he nodded. I pulled his shirt making him lean in. I really liked this. Us. We're crazy but that's okay. As soon as it's crazy together its okay.
The night was hot even though it was just kisses and sweet words. I felt like a weight was off after that night.
