Chapter 10

Mom could tell I wasn't in the brightest of moods. I offered to drive the rv since I didn't want to watch my brother and sister. plus if I was in the front I wouldn't have to worry about talking to my family, they were all in the back if the rv.

We were ready to go. I untangled my earbuds and got out my phone. It was already lit up, texts from a certain someone filled the screen. I ignored them and turned on the Pandora Disney radio. It was better if I just forgot about him anyways.

The 226.8 mile drive went by fast, and we were home in time for dinner. My mom made pizza while I set the table. Once I finished I sat at the counter on a tall stool.

"Carissa whats wrong?" My mom asked.

"Nothing." I said quietly.

My mom laughed. "sweetie we just got back from Disney World, you should be glowing with excitement and telling us what you did all week! Did you feel lonely? Are you sick? Did you meet someone?" She asked. By now I was crying and she stopped bugging me.

At dinner my phone buzzed with text every 5 seconds. "Do you need to get that?" Mom asked, she usually had a strict about no phones at dinner but she was worried about me.

"No." I responded.

2 minutes later my phone buzzed again. "Carissa. Go. Answer. Now." mom demanded. I left the table.

"Ohhhh Carissa's going to call her booooooyfriend!" Sing-songed my brother.

"TOM!" Yelled my mom.

I went out on the porch, gazed at the stars and called him. one ring...two rings... "hello?" said Tanner. My heart stopped beating. "Hello?" He said a few moments later.

"Oh um hi." I answered.

"Princess?!"

"Dont..." I told him, my heart breaking into two.

"Sorry, did you make it home okay?"

"Yea, what about you?" I asked him.

"We found a house! Moms just not telling us were it is though, wants it to be a surprise." he said cheerfully.

"Oh."

"Did you read the...note I left?" He asked.

"N-N-no." I admitted.

"Oh." there was a long pause.

"I better go..." I said at last.

"I love you, goodnight." he hung up before I could say anything else. Tears swelled my eyes. I opened the locket around my neck with the picture of us.

"Boy?" Mom asked, startling me.

"How did you-" I began to ask.

"The locket, I didn't think you would buy that for yourself, plus the way you look at it I could tell it was from someone special. Could I see it?" She asked. I nodded and took the locket off my neck, then, hesitating a little, handed it to her.

"Its beautiful isn't it?" I whispered. She nodded, then opened the locket.

"Is this him?" She asked.

"Yes, his name is Tanner." I explained.

"He's cute!" She said, I laughed a little whipping away tears. "what happened?"

"The end of a perfect week. I was leaving and didn't want to force him into a long distance relationship, I care to much about him to do that to him." I explained.

"He would have, waited for you. He really cared about you, a lot I could tell just by the way he looked at you in this picture."

"Thats what I'm afraid of." i sighed and stood up. "Im going to bed, night." I said, taking back the necklace.

I went to my room and took the note out of my purse. I stared at it for a while, but then put it on my nightstand.

"Goodnight, Tanner, where ever you are." I whispered.
