Chapter 23

We both rushed to my car, and drove to the hospital. I was way over the speed limit but luckily we didn't run into any cops. Running hastily to the front desk. "We are here to see Carissa Lan." I told her quickly.

The lady at the front desk smiled and nodded . "You can go in."

I began to walk to her room and noticed her mother wasn't coming with. "Are you going to come?" I asked.

She shook her head and smiled weakly. "I'm going to see her later. Now go!" She shooed me.

I nodded and left. I got to her door, taking the handle. I took a deep breath, knowing that I could go inside, seeing Carissa un-breathing and pale, her eyes lifeless. Or I could go in and see her smiling, her smile always managed to light up the room, and alive.

I slowly opened the door, my hands shaking. I walked farther into the dreary hospital room.

I walked in only to see the most beautiful girl in the world, grinning at me. Her smile light up more then just the room, it could light up the whole world. I looked at her, blinking for a moment.

"C-Carissa?" I asked softly. She nodded, her eyes bright and loving. I smiled, tears coming to my eyes. I pulled a chair up closer to her.

"Tanner!" She said, her voice weak.

I sighed, relived. "I'm so happy your okay! I was so worried! Im so so so so so sorry. I-"

She stroked my cheek. "I love you." She said softly.

"I love you to." Tears falling down my face.

I remembered all that happened the last few days. She had to know about being adopted. It was only fair to her. I knew her mother would never tell her but I knew it wasn't the right time.

Carissa gave me a weird look. "Whats wrong?" She asked.

"Nothing!" I said quickly.

She raised an eyebrow. "Tanner tell me." I was hesitant but she gave me a look that said 'or else.'

"Carissa... theres something you should know. Your mother... isn't your mother... biologically at least. Your adopted......" I cringed at the fact I had to tell her like this.

She just nodded, not saying anything. She stared off for a while. When she snapped out of it She took a deep breath. "Can you get ms. Lan please?" She asked. I nodded slowly and stood up, kissing her forehead before getting her mother.
