Chapter 14

About half way home Tanner started talking again, but he was much more formal.

"So... Carissa," he said, my heart shattering because he no longer called me princess. "We need to talk."

"Yes?" I said slowly.

"You said before that we were just friends..." He said, clearing his throat. "That means you wont get mad if I ask someone on a date?"

His words hit me like a bolder, knocking the air right out of me. "ah... ga.. su.." I breathed for a moment "I don't think thats my decision to make." I said at last.

"Okay." He said, stoping me. He grabbed my arms and turned me around. He was uncomfortably close. "Look me in the eyes and tell me that again." he said.

I looked up at him, his green eyes were longing and sad. "Look Tanner, if you want to date someone, go ahead, you don't need my permission." he released me and I looked down, mumbling "I'm gonna walk home alone, see ya tomorrow." I began walking, leaving Tanner behind.

I felt bad, but what else could I do? It was the truth; we weren't 'together'.

I got home and grabbed a orange. I don't know about you, but I cant stand eating oranges with the clear, chewy stuff on it so it takes me forever to pull that part off and then eat the orange.

I went up stairs and did my home work.... the pythagorean theorem is what again? Anyways, I was doing my homework when the door bell rang.

"I GOT IT!" Yelled my brother. Then I heard a CRASH coming from down stairs.

"NO I WANT TO GET IT!" Yelled my sister. A few seconds later I heard a BOOSH and my sister crying. Mom came and opened the door finally.

You know theres a perfect place for snooping on whats going on downstairs, its the place on the top step, as long as you sit against the wall.

I sneaked out of my room and to the hiding place as my mom opened the door.

"Hello!" Said a trio of voices. I looked. There was a Women, about my moms age, a little girl, four or five, and then- Tanner.

"We are the new neighbors!" Exclaimed the woman.
