Chapter 18

Sunday I was sleeping in, then going to church at 11:00. Tanner's family sat in front of mine, I caught a few glances at him and saw him with his little sister on his lap. It was so sweet!

On Monday, after school Tanner said he wanted to show me something. I was in my room when I got the text. I looked out my window, gray thundering clouds were painted across the sky, rain pattered the roof. My phone blinked with a text.

Tanner: meet me out side!

A picture of a map was attached, showing the route to a park, two blocks away from my house. I laughed ,was he nuts?! I found my rain boots that I hadn't worn for years! I was surprised they still fit! My coat was sitting on my chair and I slipped it on.

"Bye mom!" I yelled as I began to walk out the back door. She stopped me right as I took the handle.

"And where do you think your going, missy?" She asked strictly.

"To meet up with Tanner at a park!" I responded.

"In this weather?!" She looked at me like I was nuts, but you can blame Tanner for my insanity. She sighed, knowing that if she didn't let me go, I would sneak out or beg until she caved in. "Okay, just be careful." she said at last.

I walked outside. Rain poured, drenching me after only a few milliseconds.

The roads were slick, but no cars were on them. I watched as the rain sloshed onto the pavement and covered the road until it was like a river going through the town.

'Its only two blocks.' I told myself. I decided that walking was probably safe to drive so I walked the two blocks, the bottom half of my brand new jeans were drenched.

Tanner was waiting while I arrived, soaked as well. He held one hand behind his back. "Hi!" I said as I ran up to him. He smiled.

"Hey." he said, giving me a peck on the lips before guiding me to a bench to sit at. Not that am complaining or anything but.... now the top part of my jeans were wet as well. He had a new hat, I noticed. I recognized it right away as Tadashi's hat from Big Hero 6! In my opinion, Hiro was cuter the Tadashi, but Tanner, drenched in a Tadashi hat, shirt clinging to him was adorable.

"So why am I here?" I asked, laughing. Tanner shrugged.

"I just wanted to meet up with you." he said, taking my hand. Behind his back, he grabbed flowers, roses, and gave them to me, grinning.

I thanked him and we just sat in the rain for a while, soaking up the storm. After a while, I grabbed his Tadashi hat off his head.

"Heeeeey!" He exclaimed as I giggled. I stood up and started running, Tanner chasing me.

"Come and get it!" I yelled, laughing. He quickly caught up with me, so I stopped running and hid his hat behind my back.

He stuck his tongue out at me and I stuck mine out at his, both of is chuckling. He leaned close to me, kissing me. His arms snaked around my waist and grabbed the hat from my grasp. I pulled away.

"Jerk!" I teased as he put his hat on. He laughed as thunder ripped threw the air, lighting striking a few minutes later. The storm was getting worst as wind howled through my ears.

I sighed. "The storms getting bad, We better start walking home." I said as I grabbed my roses from the bench.

"Im going to stay a while longer, I'll text you when I get home." he explained.

"Be safe!" I said, worriedly. He nodded, kissing me One last time.

I was almost home, I just had to cross the road and turn left, turn left again, and then I was home. I looked left and right before crossing. I took a few steps forward, the wind making it hard to walk. I made a few staggered steps before a screeching honking noise ripped threw the air.

I heard a scream and realized it was me. A large truck swished threw the road. It was getting closer... and closer... and closer... I couldn't walk, the wind pushing me back, I saw a figure running toward me, and then, a throbbing pain went through me entire body. Pain like I never felt before devoured my body.

The truck just drove away as the figure pushed its way through the wind, and found it's way to my side. It was Tanner, he leaned down, tears already streaming his eyes.

Blood covered my face, legs, arms, almost every where was a scrape or a bruise.

He got out his phone and dialed my mom.

"Mrs. Lan? Its Tanner, Carissa got hit... a truck!.... No it drove away... okay... i'll stay here with her." he said, his voice cracking from crying. He took my bloody hand and placed it gently in his, and stroked my cheek with his free hand.

He kept saying things like, "hang in there Princess." and "I love you Princess." and "your beautiful Princess." and "don't leave me." soon, my vision and hearing just faded away. Darkness took over my body, and I could hear my hear rate slowing down...
